  1. TO be honest, I really don't ee the need for the 64*....as GoBlue mentioned, I can open my 60 when I need it...I, personally would not put the 64* into play much (although I think thy look sweet!!!!). I find that I have great overlap with my wedges....PW 120, GW 105, SW 90, LW 70 Max yards, but I use the one wedge (loft) three different shots deal that Pelz pushes....I can cover 50 yards with my SW as well as with my LW, depending on what I want to the ball to do on the green (or at least hope that the ball does greenside). I would suspect that a 62 or 64 would give more of a flop type shot ...hit the green bounce and stay..but you can do that with 60 or 56 if you strike it well. If I were to play short courses where i tend to be under the 60 yards left to green on most of my second shots....well I would consider it for when I play that course, but to be a permanent tenant in the bag. I think 60 is large enough and versatile enough to put into play 90% of the time.Choke it, open face, 25, 50, 75% swings....I even use it to chip 25yards to he pin.
  2. +1 anything greater than 60* is really tought to hit. I would suggest to get the 60, and play with opening the face for higher flops....I didn't feel comfortable dioing it with the SW 56* I tried a 64* not too long ago, and found myself hitting very short and high spinners...I could get the same effect more consistently with my 60* and sitll keep the versatility of the 60*. I carry: Titleist AP1 PW-45, GW-50, Spin milled SW 56-10, and a Spin milled LW 60-04 I can cover jut about all conditions with that setup.
  3. I'm playing there this weekend...any tips??? I read it was rated the toughest course in Florida! YIKES!!!
  4. Dude I have seen that shaft in person and let me tell it's sick!!! Freaking SICK!!!! I saw it and said one day I will one it!!!! Figuring once I have enough driver laying around to play with ;- Let us know how it pans out.... PS~if Omaha is not a good place for you clubs...check out florida!!!
  5. I couldn't hit this thing off a tee nor the deck...never tried the rough, but 2 out of 3 was good enough reason to put it down.....and trust me it was tough...these are really nice looking at address. It took alittle to get used to the cobra, but it workedout fine.
  6. Yes!!! incredible shaft and the price makes it a no brainer. This is the shaft that I was going to put on my cbg Max...it costs total about $100 once you have it nstalled, and gripped., still not a bad option. All my shafts are Aldila, with the exeption of my 3w with had a graphic design (I can't hit the dman thing) my 3h is Aldila 65R Proto by You, and my irons have Aldila 75R Proto By you. I wanted the driver with a similar shaft for consistency purposes, but I think I ended up with a similar if not better setup with the r7 limited. Anyway..it's a great option for you , and for the money you get your seing back, and get to keep the driver you like....sound like a done deal!!!!
  7. I have been using these tees from golf galaxy called Opti-Height Tees They basically have depth lines that help you with depth consistency. I attribute some mof my recent success with the driver to these tees.
  8. I have a Cobra Baffler DWS 21* (2008 model), and I', shopping for the 4h...this thing is incredible...my 3h is my go to club outside of 180 yards...very versatile shapes very well whne I hit it properly, but even on mishits, the trajectory is great. A few weeks ago I teed off with it on a par 3 215. I hit just shy of the hole and rolled right and back of fairway. They are great clubs Golf Digest Gold awards in 2008, and you can get them new for $100, or used for $80 or so....a great buy!
  9. You are not crazy (many charge for that information $$$$$) The fact is that tee positioning and height make a huge difference on ball trajectory. When I started playing, I used to use 4" tees the ball was in front of my left (leading) toe, and the tee had at least 2" clearance between the ball and the ground...I was a bad slicer!!!!! When I changed to the R7 cbg Max Driver, which had a shorter shaft and was very very whypy, I had to adjust the tee considerably. Ball positioning changed to a few inches back (it now lined up with the inside of my left heel), tee height dropped to about 1.25" to 1.5" clearance between ball and ground. This allowed me to get the ball under control and somewhat straight with a slight fade, but I lot about 30 yards in distance. With my current driver, R7 Limited, I have kept the ball posistioning, but Ihave raised the tee a bit...may be 1.5" to 1.75". I regained the 30 yards that I lost and then some. Ball positioning and tee height are two crucial factors on you performance with the long stick! (there is jake in there somewhere...)
  10. nahhhh...these fols are pretty legit...These are ground balls..I purchased 3 doz Srixon 2dz AD333 and 1D Tri Speed for $35 shipped, adn couldn't be happier. all were AAAA. The Tri Speeds...I can't tell them apart from the new ones in my bag, and the AD333 is my "throw away ball". I play it when I'm up against courses with lots of water hazards or a tricky shots where a lost ball is most likely the outcome. If it stays in play, then I still a great ball to finish my round with, if not, whel then I didn't loose much $ on it. I get sick every time I drop a $4 premium into water or loose it OB, but at cents per ball...ahh WTH...I can afford it!
  11. I told you.... I think you will be better off changing the shaft than the entire driver. While I agree that there is no magic driver out there, nor a driver that will fix your problems, there certainly is a better configuration out there to fit your needs and talents. With that said, take a look a couple of shafts...they can range from $80 to $300 easily. When I was looking to re-shaft my previous driver I had narrowed down my selection to: Aldila NV 65 (which would match my R-75 irons nicely) ~ $90 [*}Diamana Blue 65 ~ $ (I can't remember) Matriz Ozik X-Con 6 ~ $300 These shafts IMHO opinion meet my requirements, to correct a few flaws in my swing. I ended up changing form r7 CGB Max to the r7 Limited, which has a Taylor Made (licensed) version of the Matrix Ozik X-Con 5.5 (a hybrid of 5 and 6) and for my it has been great improvement. It has helped me go from 24% fairways, to 47% fairways. I purchased the r7 because I thought I needed to play with the weights to reduce my slice, and since I bought the driver the weight have remained in neutral position. I believe that there is great value in getting fitted for the shaft of your driver...it helps more than changing drivers. PS~I changed my driver bcs I got a great deal at $150 for the R7 Limited 9.5* (Reg) NEW!!!! About the cost of the new shaft, and I was able to sell my driver....all in all, I spent less than $100
  12. Absolutely!!!! I spent an hour there when I ought my driver hitting the same dirver with three different shaft & loft combinations...the 9.5* reg gave me the best, most conssistent drives, on the sim anyway.
  13. Jt, my take is that while you may have some relly fast swing speed, with your HC, you are not consistent enough to play a V2 stiff....these shafts are very, IMHO, flat..stiff, very little to no flex. I tried it out when I was looking for shafts early in the year, and found it to be flat....liveless..that's just me i guess. The point is that unless you can manage a swing speed averaging on the 95mph or greater, then stiff may not be right flex for you, or may just the shaft is not the right fit for you. You may be fine hitting a few balls at that speed, but throughout the game you may loose control and distance. figure out what your swing speed is...if you are on the cusp of stiff (ie 96mph or greater) then you want to look at a regular with "stiff like" characteristics...low torque, and low kick point, or maybe a tipped shaft.... A few thing sto consider i guess.... I saw great improvement on my drivng when I got adriver with a shaft closer suited (maybe a little better) to what I need...I went from 232 Avg to 257, and longest 283...and the more I play the longer I get. I hope this helps!
  14. I thought they wear them for the tan lines....
  15. Sean, I play both the Srixon Tri Speed's and Gamers, and while I agree that the gamers V1 shred alot easier, they also grip much better than the TriSpeed. I am a big (huge) fan of srixon, the only Titlesit balls I like are ProV1, and I am not good enough for these yet, the rest are kind of mehh... I have played AD333 and Tri-Speeds, I have a sleeve of z-start x yellow waiting to be played....that said..I still like the gamers, and I am planning on trying V2 this weekend. I thik the biggest gain on the TriSpeed's would be distance, and durability compared to the V1's There was a good review here a few days ago about the Srixon Tri Speed Tour. I'll look for and link it....
  16. That is a great point....the price point of the original tri's is what attracted me to them...a $25 was reasonable enough even for a hack like me..but taking it to $30 makes it more of a stretch...specially now that I can find Gamers for less than $20, granted they fray far more, but a very playable in every condition. delav great review man....Thanks! I was looking for some input on that model.
  17. +1 on the AP1 Listen, there are many, many options out there for you. I would recommend not to settle on one or two brands without really understanding the options you have. AP1 you didn't like, fine, look at big berthas, taylormade has great deals on last year's sets... Stay away from "Players" clubs, as they will only frustrate you alot, but if you think that you will be disciplined enough to practice alot to improve you mechanics rapidly, then they may not be too bad. If you wan to listen to someone...spend a little money in getting fitted by a teaching pro and not the dumbass sales folks, findout what you need and what will give your best results and start from there. There are many types (grades) of clubs: classic >> conventional >> game improvement >> super game improvement these farther right in that sequence, the easier they are to hit for a beginner. When I started playing I got a set of used Titleist AP1 with graphite shafts (reg) for $200. I got them from a relative that had used them from 6 months..they were (and are) in great shape. When was shopping around for the other clubs (driver, 3w, 3h, wedges, putter) the salesman at the Golf Galaxy told me that those clubs were too much for me...that it would take me a few years to really be able to play them. I tried to convince me to trade them in for something more suited for me. I refused to think he was right, and kept them....My first few round scores were 146, 123, 113. 106, 101, 105 which proves that I could handle the clubs just fine. So my advice...shop around try a few clubs and buy what you like and feel most comfortable with, independent of what the salesman is pushing on you...
  18. Mods are you listening!!!!! Great Idea....decals I would get a few!!! and the ball marker would be great!!!! I spend more time on this forum, and on any other site!!! ( I have web trends to prove LOL)
  19. Considering that your 5i is 27*, I would go for something lower, like a 909H 24*, if you really want an aggressive club go for 21*, that way you will end up with: Scenario 1:(assuming) 15* 3W -> 18.5* 5W -> 21* 3h -> 27* 5i 6* gap between 3h and 5i 18.5* 5W -> 19* Strong 3h -> 27* 5i 8* gap between 3h and 5i, and 0.5* gap between 5w and 3h 18.5* 5W -> 24* 4h -> 27* 5i 5.5* gap between 5w and 4h
  20. Give yourself some credit pal ...you hit a great shot!!!!! I played a feww weeks ago 215 yard par 3. I hit my 3h perfectly, and landed about 5 feet right of the flag. I was playing a Srixon AD333 ball. While I am sure tha the ball played its roll...I did the swinging, the stricking, and the swearing..."Holy $hit I aced it!!!!!" The ball landed, took a short bounce, and rolled a foot past the hole, 5 feet right. Putted for for a birdie.....
  21. Really???? I thought it was Titleist...I see them everywhere!!! This is the Spin Milled Technology that Titleist has had for years.....whay is so special about these grooves (Not trying to be rude, but certainly interested on the diff if any)? I will be in the market for a wedge soon...thinking about getting a med bounce LW and I am considering Titleist SM 60-07, cg14, or the cg15. I looked at the new TM wedge with the interchangeable face plates, but the finishing on it sucks!!!!! it looks like a cheap metallic-wannabe finish to me.!!!!
  22. I get much better responce from the Tri Speed. I think is a great ball for mid handicappers. I get very good back spin from my mid and short irons. I have been able to make stick to the green with one bounce (few inches), and roll back towards the pin. AD333 I have used a few times, I think these fly very well...long and straight. On the greens...put well, but I have not been able to get the spin that I want with these. I tend to go for a pitch and roll in most situations with these, bcs I can't get them to bit as the Tri Speed. The gamers on the other hand have much better bite than these two balls. I have more options green side with this ball. The only drawback is the way they shred. I have not playes a round with the Gamer v2 version, so I can't speck to it's durability. I get similar results around the green as I do with ProV1's, but the ProV1's tend to stray on me off the mid and long irons. I play alot of practice rounds....I rather spend $16 and play 9, than drop $11 for bucket at the range. I enjoy it more, and get to really pratice scenarios this way. As for the ball I usually carry 2 to 3 balls in my pocket out of habit. When I started playing I sliced very badly, so I would drop another ball and try again when I could. So basically I play a single ball per hole, unless I am doing very well with a particullar ball, I will stick to it until i loose it, otherwise I play whatever comes out my pocket.
  23. They are great!!!! My favorite ball last year. This year I switched to Gamers bcs I feel I get more bite around the green, but similar in every other aspect, except durability in which the TriSpeeds just rock!!!! I have not tried the Tour version, but eager to do so. I just have over 4 dz balls right now and can't, in good conscious, buy more. Right now I have Gamer and Gamer V2, TriSpeeds, AD333, Mojo, ProV1, and Z Starx (tour yellow) in my bag...the AD333 are my throw-away balls believe or not! In shots that require presicion and controls I will either pull a TriSpeed or Gamer. Depends on what i started with...
