  1. will adding length (1" or less) via extender to an installed shaft greatly effect flex or swingweight? Clubs in question: Cleveland TA3 3-PW with Dynamic Gold S300 shafts They are currently standard length with grips I can't stand. Since I am tearing off the grips to install Golf pride midsize wraps I figure I would add the 1/2 to 3/4 inch length I like. If it greatly effects swing weight I will either just do with standard length or reshaft, which I would rather not do, especially since I will probably just put the same shaft in +length desired
  2. My father and I were playing on a texas course near my grandparents house in Austin. Very nice course. My father and I can walk a course in sub 3 hours without rushing and we were riding that day. It was 3 years ago so I was 22 and had gained 20 lbs in the past 6 months (in a good way) and about 30 yards on my drive to the 295-305 range and it was a bit breezy. After waiting on every hole for the group ahead of us without seeing anyone in front of them we were playing "poison" on the teebox when we see them pull their carts to the green on a wideopen 450ish par 4 18th. I hit a great drive about 310 with a slight tail wind but I pushed it a bit so it found a bunker on the inside right corner of a dog leg fairway. Just after I hit it their 3rd cart (foursome with three carts) came from a hilly, tall grass waste area where carts were not allowed on the right. I yell "fore" although my ball is well beyond him and nowhere near as far right as he is. He notices the ball past him in the bunker, pulls his cart to the bunker, gets out and stomps on my ball. I'm blown away. I drop my ball a few feet back in the bunker, make a great shot and make my only birdie of the day. As we park our cart by the proshop I see the guy and am the better man. I start "hey man, I'm sorry about that. I didn't see you...." "F*** YOU you piece of S***" blah blah etc. He's wasted. My last fight was in 3rd grade against what would be a good friend Matt Kitchen. We both ended up with bloody lips and other cuts but it was a good fight. Since then I have been non confrontational and am always the "good guy" to friends. The guy went off on me while I was apologizing for not really doing anything wrong. I lost my cool and got in his face. My dad had to drag me to the car but I was ready to fight the shorter but bigger drunk guy. In retrospect it is embarassing but if the same thing happened again I would react the same I think. We, as a two-some, both sub 10 handicaps, in a cart played a 5.5 hour round. called the proshop 5 times with no help. In our case, I blame the marshall or lack of and the cart girl for selling them so much alcohol. His single person cart had about 12 empty cans. it took what was a decent round for me and made it a miserable day.
  3. Will do. I just really need to find a fitter that uses a real grass range. Trying out clubs through a computer and/or off astro-turf just doesn't jive with me. I'm already set on the Vokey wedges too.
  4. I've been golfing since I can remember. starting with a home made cut down set. then my fathers old powerbuilts. Next was the used Ping Zing 2's that were stolen after my only junior golf tournament win from outside the grille as I accepted the trophy Then my only new set, my current Ping ISI-S that I still use. Bought when I was 13 (I think, now 25!!!) when I was much smaller. standard length blue dots (1 degree upright?). I did play with my dads OG Maxfli Australian blades in high school when I was down to about a 5 hdcp. I'm now about a 9 but play better then it sounds since I only touch the clubs about twice a month at most. I'm currently looking at Titlest AP2's and Cleveland Reds but am pretty excited about the AP2's. most likely in +0.5 length and Project X 6.0's but I'll have a fitter help with that. Any suggestions for a low offset, non-"game improving" irons. I like the low offset of high skilled clubs but don't think a blade would suit me considering I don't play that often PS: I'm 6'3" 190lbs. My 150 club is a strong 9 or smooth 8. My 200 is a smooth 5 and I hit my driver about 290 consistently. The regular shafts on My Pings are KILLING me.......at least thats the excuse I'm giving myself for the new irons
  5. grayhawk is nice, never played TPC, eagle mountain is a regular for me and my dad. Dove Valley Ranch - easier but I love this course for some reason. front is wide open and back is VERY targetey Talking stick - very flat for AZ standards, not too difficult. north and south courses. at a Casino so is on the resort style. Estrella Mountain Ranch or whatever it's called now. LONG drive out west. worth it from scottsdale? probably not. nice course. very undulated. Couple holes you get to the tee and say wow. eagle mountain takes it's place. this won't fit your trip but if someone is on a more budget trip I would suggest Papago. It's Public and not the greatest shape but it is a classic and was on the LPGA for a while. Also wigwam (way out west too) gold course. I like the red but they redid the gold and its huge. 7430 from correctly named "monster" tees.
  6. 85 on "Dove Valley Ranch" par 72. Had a 7 on a par 4 and a 9 on a par 5.....whoops. 2 birdies though. Dad shot a 73 and was on fire. It was awesome to watch him play well and I didn't even realize he played so well till I asked him off the 18th green "what'd you shoot?" "one over" "you mean bogey, 5?" "no, 73" "...........wow" My 13 year old brother who is die hard baseball, football and basketball fan played a full size course for the 2nd time....EVER and shot a 121 but impressed me.
  7. Daily driver that holds the golf clubs 2000 VW Passat GLS - gets 30+ mpg Audi A6 wheels and H&R; lowering springs the "fun" car 1996 VW golf GL VR6 from a 98 GTI Kinetic stage 3 turbo kit too many mods to list roughly 380hp gets driven about 2 days a month but it gets driven hard
  8. Your signature says you are 13. Be careful not to overdo it too much. I dated a girl for 3 years that was in physical therapy and she used to give my 12 year old, sports addicted brother advice to not lift weights till he was more developed. She said kids get lots of long term injuries that way. My dad was a pitcher for the Air Force Academy and he always seemed to agree with her. Do you play any other sports?
  9. I go back to my old High School (I'm only 24 and live 10 mins away still) and donate them to the golf team. It wasn't the best neighborhood and had very few golfers. I was the best golfer at about an 8 hdcp at the time and the second best golfer never broke 100 on 18. They use them for anything from playing matches to short game shag balls. Figure they get better use out of them then I do.
  10. the worst part is that first hole has the largest elevation gain on the course. It is straight uphill but is quite wide and very simple (straight, 1 bunker IIRC) A true grip it and rip it hole.
  11. So my dad and I have made the 3 hour trek twice in the past like 10 years to go play an amazing resort/casino golf course up northeast of phoenix. We haven't gone in about 4 years and I forgot how long it is. Check out the tips. A 661 yard par 5. I will say though, it is high desert and with the altitude the ball definetly flies further. Scorecard link PS: http://www.golfapache.com/?page=4418
  12. I just won a 905R 9.5 degree with a stiff flex YS6 shaft I am coming from a 975D 9.5 degree with a graffaloy (sp?) Blue 65 stiff shaft What's the deal with this YS6 stiff shaft? Is it something that I am going to like or am I going to want to change it out? I currently swing about 95-105 mph and hit it about 260 yards with a smooth tempo. I am not really sure if I need the stiff but have this feeling it helps me keep control better. Plus I like my drivers about 46 inches being 6'3" so with adding some length with either a butt extender or if I do change the shaft. Any thoughts? PS: I won it for $90 with a good head cover and no apparent sky marks or any other marks.
  13. Ping ISI's or eye 2's are oldies but goodies and can not only be had for pretty cheap but then adjusted to fit you. I've had my ISI-S's since I was 15 and am now 24. As I am approaching a single digit handicap for the first time since high school I am just starting to think about new irons. I played OG Maxfli Australian blades for a bit when I was shooting to about a 7 or 8 and still stuck with my pings.
  14. Went to play a local course today. Dry conditions, as they usually are here in AZ. Warm, but still very tolerable from someone who will walk 18 in sunny 120 degree weather. Shot 89 and 87 previously at the course from the gold tees (blue are tips out of 4 sets of tees with gold right in front of them). Played with 3 of the nicest guys in the world and they rode in carts while I walked. Struck the ball amazingly. I was hitting my drives about 260-270 with one on a par 5 which I was considering going for in 2, which I did, about 295. Hit 50% of fairways but about 4 of them were feet or less away from the short grass. 5 GIR, 2 SS and 4 UD. Unfortunately my putting was the downfall. 19 putts on the front 9 and 14 on the back. I really need to focus on my course management, which I did today and the score showed, and my putting, next on the list for me.
  15. 4 inches of snow!?! it hit 100 degrees in parts of the valley
  16. Well, I went into Sports Authority of all places to buy a new pair of soccer shorts for my indoor mens league. Like we all do, I wandered by the golf section and low and behold they have a 53 degree and a 56 degree 588 RTG on clearance for 69.99 each. They would be 1 degree off of what I have now. 54 Titleist vokey and 57 ben hogan but I think it's worth it. Thoughts?
  17. Thanks you guys. For some reason I did not see the RTG version of the CG12. Guess I didn't look hard enough. Playing in the evening in Arizona you tend to get lots of reflections on chrome wedges and I like the feel better too. The Black version just looks weird to me. :/
  18. last day of 6 days off in a row. Started to watch the Champions league match between Chelsea and Liverpool only to realize, yes, I do have a DVR.... Shot an 82 at Maryvale GC in Phoenix, AZ. 43-39. Easy Muni (par 71 - 6646 yards from the back - 70.7/119) that I should have hit in the 70's. No one was playing even though it was a perfect day except for a bit warm.
  19. after finishing my senior year of high school, almost 6 years ago, as captain of my not-so-impressive team I have only played about once every 2 months with my dad. I have started to play more and want to replace my 3 wedges, all of which are worn from desert play, which is very rough on clubs. Without looking at new clubs in over a year, my first though was a 60 56 and 52 degree Cleveland 588 RTG. What is a comparable wedge to these classic shaped short game clubs? . Also I have replaced shafts, grips and built clubs before. Any experience on the Golfsmith Snake Eyes wedges. I could make them cheap and they seem decent enough. Plus I am just going to replace the grips with my favorite Lamkins and maybe even make them 1/2-1" longer as all my other irons are extended (I'm 6'3")
  20. playing for 18 years and having a father that is an airline pilot has given me the chance to play many places. I live in and was born in Arizona and in my opinion it is great for a wide variety of golf but if you are looking for the highest caliber go to other states. Also because of the sheer number and variety of courses it is great for visiting. I think desert courses have just started to get old to me
  21. Although I didn't score well, I shot better then I have in a while. My roommate and I went and played Vistal in southern Phoenix. Shot an 85 with 4 beers. Funny enough, Being 24 This is the first time I have EVER had alcohol during a round. I usually focus only on my game.
  22. I have played Broadmore (sp?), the ridge and the Eisenhower Course at the AFA. Playing the blue course about 12 times. It is actually one of my favorite courses in the world. Having a father that was an international commercial pilot I was fortunate enough to get to travel alot and also take advantage of my military dependent (Home course and former employer Falcon Dunes GC, Luke Air Force Base, AZ)
