  1. I usually yell the following: "I JUST HIT A WAYWARD SHOT, AND BASED ON THE ESTIMATED TRAJECTORY AND SPEED, AND ASSUMING A WIND VELOCITY THAT APPROXIMATES THE AVERAGE BETWEEN THE GROUND AND THE APEX OF FLIGHT, THE BALL MAY IMPACT SOMEWHERE IN THE GENERAL VICINITY OF YOU AND OR MEMBERS OF YOUR GROUP, GRANTED THAT THERE ARE VARIOUS ATMOSPHERIC ANOMALIES WHICH MAY AFFECT THIS STATISTICAL PROBABILITY. THEREFORE, IN THE INTEREST OF PREVENTATIVE SAFETY, I RECOMMEND THAT YOU SEEK COVER IMMEDIATELY!!" For some reason, I get a lot of negative feedback on this perfectly worded warning. Sheesh, you just can't please some people.
  2. What is wrong with Tiger's previous swing? You know, the one that garnered him 14 majors, 70+ wins, 3 US amateur titles, 3 US junior amateur titles, and over $100 million in money? Why doesn't he just use that one?
  3. I've noticed this too. They do get caught in divots occasionally, but not nearly as often as you would think. Am I right in assuming that the greens crews come out after each round in a pro tourney and improve the divots as much as they can?
  4. They are not prohibited from saying anything, and in this case, down to the final pairing and the championship at stake, I don't think anyone would fault the rules official for providing a friendly reminder.

    PGA Fiasco

If I were a spectator yesterday and kicked the ground in sandy soil, would I have made a new bunker?
  6. I find it ironic and pretty sad that you stereotype a whole group of people. One could easily stereotype you and your upbringing - would that be OK? I am not a member of a private club now, but have been in the past, and have played at several private clubs. I much prefer private clubs. The contrast between the players is huge. Here is my assessment between most of the private clubs I've played and the public courses: - Most private club members tend to take care of the course - replace their divots, repair ball marks, rake bunkers, throw trash in waste containers, etc. They take ownership of the course because they in fact DO own the course. Most public course players simply don't give a ****. They figure "its not mine, why should I tak care of it?" - Most private club members tend to be respectful of other players. It doesn't mean you don't occasionally have slow play, but that is usually remedied by a call to the marshall if it beomes excessive. You also tend not to have outright rude behavior. I don't know if this is because most folks know each other, or they feel some solidarity with a fellow co-owner of the course, or they simply don't want to see their membership revoked, but contrast this with public course players, the majority of whom are pretty good folks, but a fairly large minority of whom should probably be banned from every golf course for life - Most private club members tend to know the rules and follow them whereas most public course players don't even know the basics of golf, nor do they really care. - Most private courses, even on busy days, tend to only let groups go out at 15-minute intervals or less. Most public courses will stuff as many people, and in as large of groups, as they possibly can. More revenue that way. I'll take a private club any day of the week.
  7. Nevermind, I did some checking and I understand what coming over the top means. Typical amateur mistake. Thanks, guys. I found some drills to work on.
  8. What does it mean to "come over the top?" Also, "lower your rear shoulder so that you stay behind the ball at impact" - I am doing that some, but maybe I need to overemphasize it?
  9. My iron shots are absolutely beautiful - nice high arc, relatively long (6I to 175 yds), very consistent and straight as an arrow. Only they are going right every shot (I'm a lefty). I feel like my swing mechanics are good, but I keep getting the same shot. What are main causes for this? BTW, this is definitely not a hook or a draw - the shots are very straight. Thanks in advance!
  10. If only Tiger put the same level of consideration into his personal relationships as he does his swing coach.
  11. I'll go with Corey Pavin on this one. Corey has a lot of integrity as a person and a player. Gray has a bad rep for a reason.
  12. A dopehead angry at beer drinkers. Now that's rich.
  13. Ah, thanks. Sounds like a good player.
  14. You are a true golfer - almost died in a car crash and your first worry is your golf season.
  15. I have no idea who that is.
  16. The OP has admitted he was wrong in his response. However, I have run into this situation or worse before and my experience with few exceptions is the clubhouse won't do a damn thing. That is the biggest advantage to joining a club.
  17. After a playing buddy hits a poor shot, I'll sometimes tell them its due to their loft. "Oh, I'm not getting it in the air enough?". "No", I respond, "your LOFT, your Lack Of ******* Talent!"
  18. Tiger may be a hounddog, but he fairly rational when it comes to financial matters. That is not rational.
  19. Boy, this is a tough one. Both AK and Rory are capable of not just good golf, but superb play at times. Both can be streaky. Both are fairly resistent to mental intimidation. I would have to give a slight edge to Rory. He seems a little more focused on his game than AK and his level of maturity on the course is well above his age.
  20. I would be interested to know how much Callaway is saving per set of irons with this move? If we are talking less than $200, than that is less than 5-6 rounds of golf.
  21. OK, I'll take your word for it. To me, however, it looked like he was clearly shifting his weight to his right foot on his backswing.
  22. You are right. I forgot about that.
  23. Old Works is a beautiful course and very difficult IMO. I have played it several times. The black sand is not played as an official bunker - you are allowed to ground your club. Be prepared for nasty weather at all times.
  24. Dean Wilson did not lok like he was using S&T; this weekend. Am I wrong?

    Night golf...

I played in a night tournament for the first time last year. I started out enjoying the game and hit the first two greens in regulation. Then my depth perception started messing with me and by the end of the night I literally cound not hit the ball off the tee box. I would set up and swing several times and whiffed it each time. I know it's for fun, but I won't be playing this year.
