Very nice. I've been playing golf since about the age of 14, but have only started getting serious about it over the past few months. The game is a lot more enjoyable when you can see and feel improvements isnt it? :)
  2. Yup, and by the same token (as an addition to my above post) there are lots of players who do benefit from the newest, most advanced equipment so of course they have reason to be spending thousands of dollars on clubs :)
  3. Yep, it's a good putter even for more experienced players than yourself. As a beginner you should really just become comfortable with your swing and the game before you go out and spend lots of money on equipment.
  4. Another thing you should be careful of is not getting caught up in how new your equipment is. For example, when i'm at the range I see grown men with $500 drivers and fairway woods and a $20 set of irons. I'm guessing they think that constantly buying new drivers/woods will help get rid of their slice and often times they ignore their swing and rely on new equipment to fix all their problems. Sure, there's nothing wrong with having all the newest equipment but unless you've got the money to burn, I wouldn't reccommend it. My friends all have the newest R9 or FTi drivers and fairway woods but at the end of the day I shoot lower scores than all of them even with my relatively dated equipment. Sorry, not trying to sound arrogant, but i think its an important thing to consider whenever you're updating your equipment.
  5. ^thanks for the tip. What i'll probably do is look online for all the cheap clubs and then find a local store that will let me demo the same club. The last time I used any callaway club was when I first started golfing and had a set of x-14 irons.
  6. Yep. I've also only recently realized that hitting tee shots on par 4's and 5's and 2nd shots on par 5's isn't always about getting as close to the green as possible... Now that my yardages are more or less pretty consistent, I try to hit shots to a yardage that would fit a full swing with a given club in the bag. Good tip (i think) to those of you trying to shave a few shots off your score! Trying to hit a 60 yard wedge isnt always easier than a 140 yard 8iron.

Pretty good! After my first ~year of play I was still shooting high 90's
  8. Played 9 a few days ago and shot 35. 70.2/119 par 36. Hit 7/7 fairways, 4/9 greens and no 3 putts!
  9. oh i see. hmm.. As far as vokeys go, you should be able to find them new for around $100. I think I bought mine a few years back for less than $125 new from a local golf shop.
  10. ^btw thanks to both of you for the advice :) Although I said brand was not an issue for me, i'm a bit of a titleist fanboy and I just noticed this baby on 3balls for pretty cheap. Does anyone use it or have any past experience with it? http://www.3balls.com/product-produc...TIFF-GOLF-CLUB
  11. Do you know what degree wedges you're looking for? 3balls has 2 54* spin-milled vokeys for $50. http://www.3balls.com/sitesearch/sea...ey+Spin+Milled Also here are a few iron sets for under $200. A friend of mine uses the TaylorMade RAC OS 2 irons and really likes them. http://www.3balls.com/sitesearch/sea...e:DESC&Hand;=RH
  12. No matter what you decide to buy, check out online golf shops like 3balls, rock bottom golf, callawaypreowned, as well as ebay dealers. Be sure to save up some money for practice though. Greens fees and range balls can get quite expensive... not to mention gas prices these days :)
  13. great thread :) I also have had good experience with 3balls and rockbottom although 3balls is the easiest to find exactly what you want.
  14. These days I'm more concerned with hitting a consistent distance with each of my clubs. I'd rather hit driver 270 every single time than smash it 320 sometimes but others leave it at 220.

    21 in a few weeks :)
  16. have you noticed if the 5w/3w promote a draw or any specific ball flight?
  17. My bag: Driver: 9.5 degree Titleist 905R 5w/3w: Taylormade 200 steel 3-pw: Titleist 690.CB SW: 56/14 Vokey putter: Newport 2 I've recently corrected my grip and made some changes to my swing which have changed (improved imo) my ball flight and distance control on all of my clubs except my 5w and 3w. I've also isolated almost all my misses to about a
  18. i've had 3 different pairs of FJ's.. two were "water-proof" and the other was non water proof.. none of them kept my feet from getting wet when it was rainy/muddy out on the course. i just go with whatever looks good and is comfortable these days.
  19. I had this same problem for a while. All i did was play/plan my shots for however i was playing on any given day instead of trying to hit a perfect shot everytime. I'm a pretty good ball striker but occasionally my swing gets a little off plane and i lose control of ball flight. Golf is such a great game in that every round brings something new. Just try to be more open to what game you've got each time you go out to the course. Hope your scores drop a bit :D good luck
  20. Nothing thats not essential . Clubs, balls, tees, towel, divot tool.
  21. Seems to be the TM Burner is the best driver for any high handicapper.. such a high MOI it doesnt meet usga standards.
  22. I've been off the forums for quite some time, and i apologize if theres already a thread like this, but what does everyone think of the new more square looking driver heads?
  23. rafi is rigt, theres no one way to break 80. golf is quite an expensive activity and putting money into teaching pros is always worth it. i will say this though, if you dont mind wasting a few bucks go ahead and buy that video so we can all hear just how ridiculous it is :)
  24. i ground it just so i start my swing the same each time. i like to think i bring the club through the same position i start it at.
  25. just curious: why didn't your instructor give you drills to fix your problem?
