New to golf, looking for tips, advice.

Um, it depends? You swing the hybrid like an iron, 3 wood more a sweeping motion. So I guess it depends on well you hit your irons. Also, most hybrids are 40" or so, where 3 woods can range from 40"-45" so it should, in theory, be shorter. If you like your 3 wood though, maybe just get that shortened?

I'm curious what condition an "Average" club would be from the Callaway Preowned website. There's a lot of great deals on there for average clubs.

Anyone have any experience with this club? http://cgi.ebay.com/MACGREGOR-V-FOIL...3%3A2|294%3A50 Seems like a great deal, but I don't know a ton about MacGregor.

+1 But my swing isn't as fast as the OP. I love the graphite as well so I can just focus on swing mechanics and not about speed. I can casually swing my 3H 19* and send it a good distance. In fact, it's when I try to muscle up that I get myself into trouble.

I agree with the posters that recommended using a "go-to" club until you get the feel of the driver. Use the range to figure out the driver, not the course. I use my 3 hybrid a ton off the tee because I'm very comfortable hitting it 200-225 and straight down the middle. Sure I can hit my driver 250-275 when I hit it right, but there's a lot more margin for error.

What if I'm a swiper but am trying to become a divoter? :D

Ya it's not a nice day here in the 'Cuse. :)

I started playing again last year after a 15 year layoff. :( So the background was there for everything, just had to figure it back out again, which is still a work in progress (like everything in golf!). :) What should I be looking for in terms of bounce? I'm not very familiar with this qualification.

So I currently only have a PW and LW and really want to get a SW and Gap Wedge to help cut down the distance differences I have. My question is, as my handicap shows, I'm a player that is still feeling out my swing and wonder am I really going to see a difference between the entry level wedges and say a Vokey or Callaway wedge? Being a better wedge, is it better because the user is better or does the wedge help that quite a bit? Thanks for the help! :)

I own the same Nike and hate it. Loved it at first, but found out very quickly that it's no more forgiving than any other driver on the market.

Try and do a backandforth motion underhanded with your right hand (assuming you are righty) to mimick how hard you will want to swing to get the ball to where you want it. It's like an imaginary underhanded toss to the green. Mimick that backswing, while still accelerating through the ball to get desired distance. Friend taught me that and it's helped my game immensley.

If you were using a grip before that did not properly utilize the left middle finger, you wouldn't have the same resistance as you would otherwise. If it's really bothersome, wrap athletic tape around the tip of the finger to prevent the blistering.

Are they straighter though? Losing distance to add consistently straight is a much better option IMO. :)

1 lesson, how much improvement???
NYJetsfan replied to hippyboy's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
That's a good idea. My friend gets a lesson every week, and then goes and plays on the course on the weekend. He gets so frustrated because he is getting worse before he gets better due to the changes in his swing, which of course leads to him getting pissed off and irritated. -

Pulled chest muscle? (Still hurts after a few months!?)
NYJetsfan replied to PingGKEN's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
A great exercise I've started doing can help with these muscles. After stretching, stand back to a wall, feet and head pointing forward. Without moving your head, turn your chest so that your palms are placed flat on the wall to your side, holding for just a few seconds. Release and then rest. Then do the other side. I do a few sets of these every other day to help stretch/strengthen these muscles. This is especially helpful for my left side, since as a righty, it's not my strong side. -
Just can't learn to hit a driver
NYJetsfan replied to albatross's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
While I'm not expert, I recently have improved my drive by doing a few things. First and foremost is the stance. Make sure the feet are a little wider than shoulder length, with the ball just inside the left foot. This promotes hitting the ball on the upward swing of the driver as opposed to the descending swing. Also make sure your driver is closed, otherwise you will get the slices. The hardest part with the driver, IMO, is resisting the urge to "Crush" the ball. When I walk up to the tee box, I repeat to myself "HASH" in my head, with means to me moving, in order, Hands, Arms, Shoulders, Hips for the backswing to torque the power. Once that is accomplished, it's then going backwards to release the power...turn the hips to set forth the chain reaction of moving the rest. Above all else, the driver is mental. I used to be very, very nervous and anxious hitting the driver, as I was expecting to fail. Now I don't nessecarily expect to hit it 250 and straight everytime, but I know it's in the realm of possibilities. :D -
That is a fascinating response! I've never thought of that, but it seems to make sense. It would make sense to hit in front of the ball if your left eye was being more productive in regards to addressing the ball.
-
Thanks for the advice! Two things I've read recently that I'm going to practice next time on the range are moving the hands slightly before moving the arms to promote the wrist hinge and just letting gravity push the iron down to promote hitting down on the ball. We shall see how the results are!
-
That makes sense since, as I understand it, the divot should start in front of the ball if the shot is crisp. However, I'm sure I could find a way to scoop or sweep the penny anyway.
