She'll get preggo, have a couple of kiddos, get bored, try to come back, have limited success over a year or two and retire again..... Hate to hear this, I always thought she had a solid game and she was fairly easy on the eyes.....

Ahh, I thought you were in the Grapevine area....my mistake....

Hope you can make it out soon.....so far, it's been 30-45 minute drive for me to all the events.....there are a few on the schedule closer to home, but others that are an hour away.... As we go west, green fees seem to rise, and it also seems they are less likely to allow walkers on Sunday......if you know of any courses that direction that are in the $20-$30 2pm greenfee range on Sundays where we can walk that I may have left out, shoot me a PM or email.....locations are subject to change, so we can always make room for good/cheap courses I should have done a better job of rotating direction of courses on the original scheduel, but live and learn....

There are some really nice ads on late at night......the women are so friendly, and they are just waiting for you to call.....they like everything, even golf.... When I was single, I think I remember a couple of golf dating sites that were up.....do a google search.....I never used either of them, but it's worth a shot....

Meh, first time warrants a waive.... Second time, the old stomp into the ground trick... Third, a nice conversation about how they aren't ever going to hit into me again....

I don't pick up golf balls........it isn't mine, I didn't earn it, I didn't pay for it.......truth be told, I don't even like playing with folks that whip out their ball picker at every water hole......and as someone already said, I try to play the same type of balls so I get more consistency around the greens.... Realistically, the guys that try to steal or play your golf balls don't belong to this site......for the rare few that do, most aren't gonna post up that they will steal a ball close to theirs, play the ProV, and drop their Slazenger

Here's the problem........typically charity tournaments cost you a pretty penny to enter.......they use the charity to typically get donations of some pretty nice prizes for longest drive, closest to the pin, and the top 3 spots.....they use these prizes to heavily advertise a reason for you to drop large coin on the event.....you figure, what the hell, it's for charity, and if we play really well, we might just win something.....you hit the course, and lo and behold, you play GREAT......as a group of hackers, you shoot 60 and feel pretty damn proud.....you watch the guys in front of you all day and they are all over the place.....you watch the group behind you and they can't make a 3 foor putt, much less chip the ball anywhere near the hole.......you are proud of that 60, post up your score with your head held high, and think maybe you just might win something.... Well, the group in front of you posts a 55, and the group that was behind you puts up a 54...... Hey, I don't mind losing.....and for the record, I always get on teams that have zero hope of putting up a 60......but nobody likes to be cheated.....and when you see them announce the winners, which happen to be the 4 drunkest fools on the course, see half the crowd shake their heads, and these guys all walk away with a new set of Mizuno irons, there can be some bad feelings......that type of cheating leads to people not wanting to play the next year, which hurts your donations and charity..... Sorry, but integrity and character go a long way......for some people, it's the principle and they see rewarding that type of activity as something they don't want to be identified with......your word is your bond.....again, that's just me, but some people are different....
-
I'd say the average golfer I get paired with hits a 7 iron on a 150 yard par 3.......granted, it's all relative....last week, a guy hit PW pin high from that distance, while another guy in the group hit his hybrid, and both hit good shots.... Phil hit his 6-iron a week or so ago from 210

They said Sergio changed his grip because he still has problems with his wrist after his injury late last year - the interlocking seemed to help him take some pressure off that wrist....... IMHO, he was devastated after his loss to Padraig at The Open Championship......ever since then, he's gone from sometimes whiney to just plain depressing.....I hope he finds his game soon, kid has a lot of talent, but he needs to work on the attitude......it appears he could really use a 6 month hiatus from golf - just disappear for a while, find some happiness, and come back with a better outlook....
-
Man, it's for charity......it doesn't mean you also donate your integrity.....golf pros do a lot of silly events and things for charity, but they still keep within the wacky rules......cheating at a charity event is like sleeping with your sister - yeah, you might be getting some, but dude - IT's YOUR SISTER

After our luck with the elements, the Poor Man’s Golf Tour should really be changed to the Bad Weather Tour, or maybe the Iron Man Golf Tour. Every event has been riddled with some type of challenge, but the show always goes on. Fortunately for us, the conditions were much better than that of LB Houston – the fairways were saturated (no real standing water) and the temps were in the high 50’s by the end of the day. There was a nice drizzle all day long, but no real rain. We had a couple of new people show up – Kevin and Ryan F joined our group of weekend warriors. Truett, Richard, and Sky also braved the weather so we put a couple of 3-somes on the course (Sky had to leave early). Somehow, we finally managed to finish a round and post some scores. If any of you have scores or stats you’d like posted from previous rounds, locate them and I’ll be glad to add the info to our new spreadsheet. Next Event – Cedar Crest, our first Major, is coming up on May 2nd – Doug plays here regularly and says this course is in excellent shape. I’m playing a practice round this upcoming Sunday at 2pm – if you’d like to join in, let me know by tomorrow morning (Richard is already in). Still trying to work out some type of trophy for the event winner. Remember, everyone is eligible to play in this event. Highlights – Ryan won the closest to the pin contest with a knock to 25 feet, while also leading everyone in GIR. Truett made a 40 footer for birdie on the second hole, as well as a 50+ footer from off the green on another hole to save bogey. Kevin sank a nice, breaking 15 footer for birdie, as well as a bladed chip that hit the pin at light speed and somehow fell in the hole. Richard said his 9-iron was dialed in all day, with a perfect ball flight and pure strikes – he also tagged a perfect drive on 6, leaving just a 9-iron into the green. Although Sky only got in a few holes before he had to leave, he had a nice birdie – he and I also tied for longest drive with a couple of 260 yard pipes into the wind and drizzle on the 5th hole. Putting was really tough all day, so kudos to those that made anything – the sand and water were brutal on the greens. With the wet fairways, there was no roll at all, and the temps required a lot more club to get to each hole. Results – As you notice, since we are still short handicaps, 2 points are the standard, as well as for anyone that has played in an event so far. Also, I’ll try a little copy and paste as well: PlayerScoreFairwaysGIRPuttsBirdiesEaglesPoints Richard927234002 Ryan F978535002 Truett1035231102 Kevin1043229102 Sky 102 Jason8910334000

Shot an 89 today, just like last week ZERO birdies, 6 pars, 6 bogeys, 6 doubles 10 fairways, only 3 greens in reg, 34 putts 6005 yards/69.2 rating/120 slope - course was wet, 58 degrees, misting all day - short course, target golf Other than one hole, drove the ball solid all day, very happy off the tee Chipping was excellent, putting was dismal - between the sand on the green and wet conditions, could not get the ball to the hole - missed SIX putts of varying distance 1 inch short of the hole Iron shots were decent, missed many greens just short, left, or right by only a few feet Cold, wet, but no standing water....just saturated Best drive - 5th tee, into the wind and mist, 260 yards Best iron - 3 iron off the tee, 200+ yard par 3, just short of the green but perfect strike Best putt - made only 1 putt all day, 10 footer for bogey, it was ugly on the greens I missed so many putts, but hit the ball fairly well - this could have easily been a good day in the low 80's

LMAO, scrambles I'm typically asked a few times a year to play with friends in their office scrambles......usually, they ask me to be there as the anchor, so going in, I know we have zero chance of winning since I'm simply not that good.....we just have fun, drink a few beers, relax, and enjoy the day.....we never even get close to winning, but we post an honest score, and usually they are for charity, which is a good thing.... Funny thing is, regardless of the people or the event, the same 3 teams are up at the top every year......I only know this because my buddies will comment about how "those guys are just as bad as we are, I just don't understand how we shoot 68 and they always shoot in the 50's".......I don't want to get into their office politics and explain that not only are these guys likely cheating at golf, but they might also be a little creative in their numbers at work

OK, just checked the leaderboard real quick - kudos to Jerry for taking his lumps. There were a few others with scores like his, and they all withdrew - at least he manned up and finished.

Watched a little last night.....I have seen him play before.....he's a much better player than he showed last night.....you could tell he was nervous, he was all over the course and 3-putted 3 of the first 5 greens.....with his game, if he settles and gets a little more experience, the guy can shoot par on a good course..... I thought they said he was the host???? If so, then I'm glad they let him play. Also, Jerry Rice brings more viewers to golf - I would have watched about 3 minutes of coverage if he wasn't playing. Go Jerry, keep it up mang....you give all us hackers hope

I'd put my average about 250.......a good, solid drive goes that far.....I can duff it 50 yards on rare occasions......also, downhill with a 2 club wind, I can pipe one 300+ on rare occasions.....a good drive is about 280, a weak drive is about 220.......a better guage would probably be to ask my playing parters for distances.....early in the season, accuracy is not as good, so right now it's probably only 230 due to more poor shots, but the fairways are a little barron and running, so I dunno??? 250

These days, my hair is always short or I shave it bald......cap is the only choice

At one time or other, I have found a way to leave almost any club in my bag.... Driver, oh yeah.....maybe it's a good walk to the tee box where I have to double back.....walk up with Driver and 3wd, decide to go with the 3 and leave the driver out of the way.....my buddy Richard almost left his driver last weekend, same situation.... Maybe you are in a cart and it's path only.....you take your 4 and 5 irons.....put one down in the rough, hit the other.....yep, had to go back for this before.... Putter, absolutely.....as mentioned, you chip in, get all excited, go get the ball.....next hole - whoa, no putter
-
LOL, yeah, it was bad luck.....walked to the back of the green, didn't see a ball, but saw the tunnel and had to laugh at myself..... Thanks for the replies guys.....we are having our little Poor Man's Event at the same course and I may institute some local ruling on that.....find it crazy that if you barely hit roll over the center of the green, you end up 50 yards away in a creek

We have our tee times set for this weekend on Sunday. We have 8 people signed up for this weekend – I’ve also booked an extra tee time for 4 more spots for late entries, please PM or email no later than Friday. I will be checking in players from 1-1:30pm in the lounge area. Green/cart fees should be paid to the golf course at 1:45 (Since 2pm is the start of twilight, they try to take money no earlier than they have to for audit purposes). For those that have never been there before, they do not have a range – for those that want to hit balls, you can utilize your home course beforehand or go to Twin Wells range, which is only about 10 minutes away. Stevens Park does have a large putting green, as well as a chipping area. When you complete your round, return to the lounge to turn in your score cards at the tourney table. If I am still out on course, feel free to put up your clubs, grab a beer, and relax. I’d like a couple of minutes to get your card and hear about your round.

Thanks for all your thoughts.....I was hoping to get more ideas to improve all facets of the business so more people will enjoy their rounds and be more apt to spend their hard earned $$$ at the golf course.....didn't intend to start a slow play thread, my apologies for that..... One last perspective, at least from me, on slow play - I've been paired with 3 scratch golfers before that took FOREVER.....also paired with a group of 40 cappers that all shot over 120, yet we got in under 4 hours......when my grandfather taught me to play, he would only take me out on a weekday afternoon because "you are still learning - it's better to play when hardly anyone is on the course so we can take our time and not HOLD UP THE GOLF COURSE".......you don't have to be smart, rich, or a scratch golfer to be considerate and aware of your impact on others...... Anyway, what other ways would you improve the course you play on???? Thanks for all the replies so far....

Couples.....even at 50, it's amazingly smooth....
-
trog, I don't understand this perspective.....only one 4some can tee off at one time......the next group to tee off must wait until they clear the fairway to tee off......if the first group off plays in 4.5, and every group behind them keeps up with the group in front of them, then it's like an assembly line and everyone plays at the same pace.....in order for the course to get backed up, at some point, there has to be a slow group that is not being held accountable?????? At least, I think so????
-
Good idea.....playing the proper tees should aide with pace of play, not to mention the enjoyment of the round for those playing.... Story to support your idea.....years ago, played the King and the Bear with a buddy of mine, a scratch golfer.....well, he wanted to play the tips - it was a bit much for me around 7300 yards, but it was a big deal for him and a good challenge for me.....as we stopped at the first tee box, the starter asked if we were single handicap golfers.....he said he was scratch, I was a 13, so we averaged a 7 The starter watched us tee off - luckily I hit it well, he smiled and winked, said we were OK to play the tips and thanked us for our business.....very impressive....

OK, I got a little frustrated at some of the things I saw this weekend at the golf course.....and maybe this is just a rant, but I'd like to think that some superintendents/general managers might just follow the forums to get a little feedback from their customers.....and it's always bad form to complain unless you have valid ideas to help improve the situation.....so here we go: Slow play - quite frankly, it's inexcuseable - a round of golf should be 4 to 4.5 hours, no more. While there is a little work to managing the offending 10% that play at a snails pace, you'll make the other 90% extremely happy and want to return. Post expectations, educate patrons as to the pace of play when they pay at the clubhouse, and enforce the rule. And don't give me the BS about weekend golf on a public course - often, the first 4some off the tee in the morning finishes easily in 4 hours. Therefore, if every group keeps pace with the group in front of them, everyone finishes in 4 hours. When there is a hold-up, please have your staff get them back on track - we will gladly thank you with compliments and return business. Group size - this Sunday, at 2pm, our 4some teed off, ready to enjoy a nice 4 hour round. 8 minutes later, a single went off the first tee behind us. 7 minutes later, a 2some went off the first tee. 8 minutes later, a single followed that. Each group wanted to play through. First of all, the 4 of them should have been paired up together. We were following a 4some, and there were plenty in front of us. Ultimately, if you choose to send off singles and couples on a weekend, advise them to be patient, we can't allow every group to play through because we will never finish our round. Food/beverage costs - it appears many courses these days are missing the forest for the trees. This is a huge money making opportunity for your club - also, it's a great way to motivate customers to return to your course and spend more money. BUT, if you decide to charge $7 for a small hamburger, $3 for a fountain drink, and $4 for a beer, don't be surprised if you sell little to nothing, especially on a public course. At those prices, most people just pass - they pack their own sandwhich, bring their own gatorade, and so forth. At $2 for a can of beer, $1.50 for a coke, and $5 for a burger/small fri, you will find your staff busy and money leaving the pockets of customers and making it's way into your register. $4 beers, $7 burgers, and $3 cokes all have their place - at the strip club. I'd love to hear other great ideas, please share if you are willing. There has got to be a number of small tweaks courses can make to increase the bottom line and make themselves profitable in this environment.
