  1. I was browsing the "vintage" golf gear on ebay and came across this. Granted this is a Staff bag with all the accessories, but daaaaayum!!! $285 http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Power-Bilt-Orange-Cart-Staff-Golf-Bag-w-Cover-/370468403262?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash;=item5641a3383e
  2. Whenever I have a problem with a cut or something I just use a couple strips of athletic tape. If need be I use superglue on cuts to keep the skin closed. My hands aren't sweaty either. I do get people questioning my choice of grips. I guess they think the New Decade Multicompound would be hard on my hands, but they aren't. Years of construction work had built up calluses. My hands have become very soft since changing careers to nursing, but still haven't had any issues with blisters.
  3. Best thing that could've happened to you. A blessing in disgiuse!! Just ask yourself.....What would Freddie Couple do? Just messing around, but try golf without a glove. You might be surprised.
  4. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think it's so ugly it's beautiful. I won't say what I paid, but I know its worth substantially more than I paid. Very sturdy construction/stitching. They don't make them like this anymore. No rips, or tears in the leather and all zippers work great. The rain hood tops it off (No pun intended). This will probably be on the Bay before too long, although I'm half tempted to keep it. I would never take it to the course, because it screams for attention that my game doesn't deserve. I would put it in an office or den as a club storage container of sorts. I thought it was quite a find.

I know what you mean. I felt I was starting to learn how to hit a golf ball solidly and actually control it a bit toward the end of the season, then the snow started falling. Cold doesn't keep me from the course, but it's tough to find your ball in the snow. The challenge for me will be to continue working on things during the winter and hopefully next season won't have to completely start over. I envy the So. Cal, AZ and FL. golfers very much about this time of year.
  6. Regrip complete. Stripping the old was no biggie. Took about 35 minutes to completely strip 7 clubs. An exacto knife did the trick as I wasn't worried about trying to save the old grips. I had read where a heat gun had to be used to take off olf grip tape in combination with a scraping device of some sort. Not in this case becaue the old tape peeled right off. Next I went to golf galaxy and bought one of those $2 plastic club clamp/guards. In addition I used two old clamps from my finish carpentry days. Here is a pic of my hillbilly ingenuity. Pictured is an old 2 iron I bought the other day. I also bought precut double sided tape strips and solvent. Sliding on new was no biggie either, although not making a mess with the solvent is the biggest trick. An old paint roller pan on the floor under the club did the trick for the most part. Voila......
  7. This will definitely solve a steepness issue
  8. There had to have been alcohol and/or a friendly wager involved in this story!! Apologies to the OP for the hijack..................
  9. I bought a used macgregor blade 2 iron at my local goodwill for 50 cents! Not going in my bag, but it's just something to practice with. Better make that 5 or 6 times.
  10. I bought a Macgregor mtr2 Tourney 2iron yesterday at my local goodwill. I hit about 50 balls with it from my yard into a neighboring hay field in a snow squall. My neighbors think I'm certifiable. Last February I was usually one of only a couple regular idiots at my local range, hitting floaters onto the ice. EDIT: If you've never been stung by a mishit 2i blade in 26 degrees with no glove, then you just haven't lived!!
  11. I got the drinking out of my system in my younger years. I do enjoy a few with my wife every once in a while, but while golfing I never drink. I just don't need it to relax or have fun.
  12. Depends on the lie. 56 if I need to get it up over a hazard. It's usually a 52 degree wedge for me, but also use PW, 8i or 6i. I agree with this. Earlier this year I dropped the 60 out of my bag and my scrambling improved. I admit, I don't have the skill for the high flop and stop shot and probably never will. I'm happier to get the ball on the ground and running asap. It took me 6 months of stubbornness, but I finally came around. Good on ya if you can use the LW effectively!
  13. As I get more into golf I find older gear attracting my attention. I find myself looking at Play it Again SPorts, the local pawn shops, and thrift stores for older gear that can be had for little money. Enis750 = Sandtrap's voted most likely to change irons 4 times in a year.
  14. Paintfill complete. Now for the grips.....
  15. This was my first time, so my results may be different than someone that has more experience. The old paintfill just popped out without using any polish remover. I bought a pick set (in the clay sculpting section) from my local hobby lobby that worked well for removing the old stuff. A toothpick worked as well, but not quite as good. I tried the polish remover first as well, but I found it actually made the old paintfill gummy and harder to remove. When I removed my "trial" colors of new paintfill, I scraped out what I could and then had to use the polish remover to get the last little bit cleaned up nicely. As far as wiping off the excess I did that right away and had good results. I used a playing card cut into strips as a sort of squeegie. There would still be a fine film of paint left around the letters or numbers. I let everything dry overnight and then wiped off the film with a dry paper towel. Post up some pics when you're finished. I finished filling in all the black on mine tonight. I will get some pics probably over the weekend. NOW for the grips...................... That will be a first for me as well. I got a quick lesson today when I bought my new grips. I asked for seven New Decade Multicompound grips in red and the guy took me to the "clubmaking" room where I got a quick lesson in grip removal and replacement. One of the exact reasons I go to and support the smaller golf shop. They go above and beyond. In one way the guy giving me the lesson was taking $$ out of his pocket, but on the other hand he is one reason I will not hesitate to go back to spend more $$. Clamping the club may be an issue as I don't have a fancy club clamp and don't even own a bench vise. I do have some rubber coated clamps I used for hanging cabinets. I'm sure I can make something work.
  16. I did three more. One all "murderedout" ( I guess that means all black??) Not working at all IMO. I did one with the iron number in red and all lettering in black except the Hogan signature on the back in white. That isn't looking good either. I decided to just stick with the stock colors! Red numbers and black lettering. Very Hoganesque I believe, is how SM put it. LOL This one still has some blue I need to get rid of on the sole.

How dumb am I to have paid more for my used 3W than a new driver. Anyway, that comes to just over $700 I guess. Not counting my bag and push cart. EDIT: BTW thanks to all of you who posted. I just showed my wife this thread and now I don't look so bad. LOL!!
  18. I bought a copy for the purpose of really getting to work on my swing. I have dropped 5 off my index this season just by employing the basic principles I've grasped from Erik and David's posts in the swing forum. I think it's the best $12 I've spent towards golf so far in the past two years.
  19. I will try that. This is my first attempt at paintfill, but it really wasn't that hard. I did a couple. One in light blue and one in a darker blue. Can't really decide which one I like better.
  20. Picked these up @ Play It again Sports for $107. Need new paintfill and grips as the pics below show. I was going to post before, during, and after pics due to winter boredom! Before During. I think I actually prefer the "naked" look. I was going to leave the sunburst logo alone, but I plan on doing the iron numbers in red and the lettering in blue. The yellow of the sunbrst just isn't going to look good IMO. I now plan on changing the sun to blue as well and the BH in the middle to white. I will post more pics as I go along
  21. It's usually th eopposite for me so I would find that refreshing. I would love to walk through the door to GG and not have a staff member latch onto me like white on rice on a paper plate in a snowstorm!
  22. I failed miserably at the first goal of practicing more. I dislike hitting the range because I feel I get in a boring rut after awhile. I could spend all day around the practice green though, and did a fair amount of short game practice this year. I did manage to drop my index by 5 by doing some self study on the S&T; principles and attempting to put them to use. Currently at 14.6 index which is still very much a high handicap, but I think it will continue to come down with more work.
