  1. If I were him I'd punch whoever dressed me in those pants and worry about the golf swing later.
  2. I assume from this post that before taking up golf, you had never played outside before?
  3. I'm unfamiliar with the term "old man golf", but I do know several old men who will hand you your ass and take your money on the golf course.
  4. I noticed you're in Memphis, do you ever play North Creek off of Stateline rd in DeSoto county?
  5. Right now my course management is just what you described. I take bogies to avoid doubles and triples. Sometimes laying up gives me a great short-iron approach and I par the hole with a 1 putt, and I try to par the par3's. I'm pretty consistently shooting under 90 with this approach, and as I gain confidence with each longer iron I'm beginning to go for some greens I would've laid up to 2 months ago. I shot an 83 yesterday using this approach
  6. Some of their stuff is okay, some is just out there. I'll leave the judging to the judges, though.
  7. Play the hybrid unless you have a wide open fairway with no trouble to the right. Fix your driver issues at the range.
  8. My rib isn't broken, but I have torn serratus muscle (sits on top of the rib). I've been playing, but not as much. Sometimes it hurts so bad I can't breathe, other times I barely notice it. I plan to play 18 sunday... if I can make it through, otherwise I'm going to crack open a cold one (or 6) and enjoy watching my friends play.
  9. I'm just right up the road from you, and considering that the ground is only frozen for a few weeks in Jan/Feb each year, I plan to keep playing whenever possible. It could be that I just started playing again after a long layoff and my enthusiasm is still high, though.
  10. "When it's breezy, hit it easy"
  11. 1.5 miles to the club I'm a member of. 27 miles to the course I play second most, but it's mostly interstate and traffic isn't much of a problem.
  12. I voted both, with a little slant toward conservative. I don't have the skill in my midgame to pull off many miracles, and my main goal is to avoid blowups. By doing that, I can usually come in right around 90, give or take a couple.
  13. I've done it, but wised up after the 3rd ball and went to the drop area.
  14. When I started really getting some distance it was from learning to move my hips properly. Try this... Standing like you're adressing the ball, take your arms back to simulate a backswing. As your arms reach the top, shift your weight to your left foot and turn your zipper toward the target. You should feel a stretch in your stomach/rib muscles. You do this as you pull your right elbow into your ribs. You're now in the "coiled" position. When you uncoil by completing your downswing/follow through, you should be generating some good clubhead speed. It's really alot more technical than that, and also alot simpler, but doing that should allow you to feel the stretch that puts the power into your swing.
  15. John Daly gave me a $100 poker chip at a casino in Tunica, MS. I didn't keep it as a memento though, it got cashed along with the rest of my chips when I left for the night.
  16. Playing with the Pros, or whatever it's called, seems to target the lower handicaps. As we all know though, most golfers will never break 90, and quite a few will never break 100. Therefore, it stands to reason that there is a larger market in the high handicap range and the most airtime will be geared toward them. Television is all about making money by bringing in the largest possible audience.
  17. When I was about 20-21, I was playing with a friend and two older men that he knew. After about the third time the cart girl came by I started talking about her... various bodyparts, and I went way over the line with my commentary. As it turned out, one of the guys was her father, and the other was their minister. I learned a good lesson that day about keeping my thoughts to myself, you never know who your audience is!
  18. Nope... Strangeland.
  19. This thread makes me realize how fortunate I am to live in a part of the world where you can leave your things unattended and expect them to be there when you return. I freaking HATE thieves, and think they should be shot on sight.
  20. That 220 yd drive is actually 340 in internet yards. I've been killing it lately, getting out around 260-270... that's like 400 in internet yardage!
  21. Nike Distance "Soft"... the green box. I got a personalized box for free, and really like them. Next time I buy balls, these will probably be what I go with.
  22. Skin-So-Soft works. Why wouldn't you want to use a repellant with deet?
  23. I bought my wife a set of Aspire clubs at Play It Again for under 200 bucks. For the price, they seem like a good set. There's a driver, 3w, 6i-pw, 25*hybrid, putter, and bag. If she decides she wants to play seriously, we'll upgrade. (fwiw... I can hit her driver as far and straight as my Nike SQ.)
  24. Nope, no glove here. I suspect that 95% of the help a glove provides is mental. This winter I may invest in a good pair for warmth, though.
  25. Found the right forum for ya... http://www.fashion-forums.com/frontpage/index.php
