Day 2 Did my SKLZ club work out routine - solid 22 minutes again. 60 swings split evenly between the SKLZ Tempo Grip Trainer and SKLZ Gold Flex. 2 reps of each, 15 swings each rep with stretching the hamstrings out before and after each set as well as neck PT. Finished with 15 hard baseball style swings with the Gold Flex to get some core work in. Final heartbeat reading when done was at 110, up from 108 yesterday. Good workout for the initial week of off season

@BEK1966 Welcome! I grew up in Southeastern MN. Probably all not that to far from you. Hoping the snow melts so i can get one more round in this weekend. Great place to talk about golf. Excellent place for instruction!!! As well as the occasional debate on rules 😎

Day 1 Starting over after having a break from Golf. Not intended but snow tends to really mess with a golf course. Did my SKLZ routine. 60 total swings broken evenly between my SKLZ grip tempo trainer and SKLZ Gold Flex with stretching in between each set. Did some core work as well. Plan this week is just SKLZ work out and light core work out. Next week adding strength training with emphasis on Golf and explosiveness.

Day 60 Spent 45 minutes on the putting green today. Stayed focused on 15' and in with bulk of all practice from 10' and in. All distances and putted everything out. After analyzing my last round I need to focus on short game from 100 yards in. That has been my single largest area of lost strokes this season.

Away course - made a very nice Birdie on Hole 4 at The Wilds in Prior Lake. Just missed a second birdie on hole 6. Missed a 3' putt for birdie there.

Day 57 Got to the Practice Facility tonight, warmed up with my 48* Wedge and then worked on my 6 Iron as it has given me fits this season. Then I hit a bunch of sand wedge shots from all over the practice bunker, fried egg, in foot prints, at the lips, feet out bunker ball in trap, sitting on top of sand,, at the back of the trap. It was a lot of fun. Thenni worked my bump on run shots as well as out of the rough. At the end I hit about 20 shots with my Driver. Fun night of practice showing lots of work needed.

Stop Aiming at the Flag!!! #DeadCenter
djake replied to david_wedzik's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Didn't Gary Player preach this as also? For me to just aim at the middle of the green I have left such a large margin of error that I miss more greens then hit. Just to large of a target, but as you stated @DaveP043 find that small target and go for that. That doesn't mean the Flag but a good small point to narrow your focus on and hit at that small target. When I do this with any shot it has a better positive affect on my game. -

Position of Ball Along Club Face Length at Address?
djake replied to retexan599's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
This is also what I do now. But back in the good old Persimmon days I always lined the ball up on the toe for center contact. When I finally got a 460 cc Driver I found that when lining the ball up on the toe I would get those dreaded sky marks on the toe from time to time. -
Day 54 Went to the Range tonight. Focused on hitting all Wedges at 1/2 swing then tried to hit flop shots off of a firm to hard range. Then i hit full as wing PWs. Also rotated in my Driver thru out the session. Finished up rotating between ny 5 Wood and Driver. Very happy with how my accuracy with how my accuracy with all my clubs is improving.

Day 53 Took The Wife to range tonight and both got a large bucket. I worked on my Driver, 5 Wood, 2 Utility Iron, 7 Iron, PW & 52* Wedge. Overall a good night of work. On the way home my Wife complained about how her first 15 to 20 golf balls went so good then after that it sucked. I started laughing and told her, it's because you hit an entire large bucket before I was not even half done with my bucket. I told she needed to slow way down. Let her body have some recovery time between shots. All in all we had a nice time together

That's so true! Why I ended getting a 4 door pickup. It hauls a foursome for a long golf weekend in comfort and zero issues with storage space.

Day 52 Did my SKlZ training set tonight and followed that up with Winged Foot chipping practice from the progressive rough in my backyard. Dang is it ever getting deep and tough. Did 2 sets of 10 with the SKLZ grip tempo and 2 sets of 10 with SKLZ Gold Flex

Best shot of the week. Easy choice as I have been on quarantine I have not been able to golf. I got to the range last night and my very first shot was with my PW, as i like to warm up with that club. I lay out my alignment sticks, set my ball ever so perfectly, line up the shot like it's a wedge into the green at 18 on Sunday at Winged Foot. Get up and down to secure the 2020 US Open Victory. All set with with that UK dude announcing. I swing and hit the most perfect PW shot!!! It went no higher then 3' in the air and stuck it right at the 150 yard sign. Amazing shot that left me with the tap in Victory. I really enjoyed hitting that wedge and it literally did what I stated. After that it was all down hill as I hit a large bucket pretty much the way you should. Oh how I enjoyed that PW shot

My wife bought a dozen to try. Never heard of them until they showed up. After reading your review @Zippo I will interested too hear what she thinks of them. She is trying different balls out to see what she likes the best.. So far she likes Snell, but the journey continues for her 😀

Day 49 Yump another day of quarantine so no outside range, no putting green, no chipping area, no golf course just me and my SKLZ training clubs. So here it is 2 sets of 10 with the SKLZ grip swing trainer and 2 sets of 10 with the SKLZ Gold Flex. Really itching to play Fall golf, my favorite time of the year to play

Most Difficult Course You’ve Played
djake replied to HJJ003's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Like all of us I have played on some tough golf courses. Gimmicky courses as well that made them tough. The Wilds in Minnesota has been rated the toughest at a Slope of 154 and Course Rating of 74.4. I have played that course often and was scheduled to play it again today but COVID Quarantine forced a temporary cancelation. While this is rated a tough course for me my current home course Southview CC is the toughest course I have played on. Southview doesn't break the Top 10 for outside rankings, Slope of 135 Rating of 71.6 yet for me it is the toughest course I have played on. Comparing the The Wilds to Southview - all from the tips. 95% of the time I play the next tees forward. Yardage - The Wilds wins out at 7205 yards vs Southview at 6404 yards - pure length easy choice Fairways - both are excellently groomed bent grass. Southview is a lot narrower, precision off the tee is critical with Southview. The Wilds is no slouch but the fairways are wider, more forgiving for long ball hitters. Variation in terrain: Southview hands down is crazy tough compared to The Wilds. Middle of the fairway in Southview on every Par 4 and Par 5 the ball can be below your feet, above your feet, uphill lie, downhill lie and combinations of all. Hit a perfect Drive down the middle and you have to pay attention to where the ball is in your stance on the next shot or you are in trouble. The Wilds has some of this, but no where to the extent of Southview. Off the Fairway: Southview has nasty rough the entire length of the course and around the greens it is downright scary. The Wilds has tough rough but yet it is still a Private Public so for pace of play reasons it is easier. Southview's rough calls out for a proper short iron out into the fairway. Try to do to much and you will card a big number real fast. Also tree jail is nasty in Southview, old school Traditional course. Trees are cut up so you can hit under but there was architectural thought behind the trees. So many times you just need to take your medicine and find a punch out. But hero shots call out and then that sound of a golf ball bouncing off of trees just deflates you. Around the Greens: Southview is tougher - you have to know how to hit a flop shot or you will put some big numbers on the score card. Not two ways about it. And if you are above the hole, long by even 18" you have one of the scariest shots in golf as the greens really go back to front downhill and are very fast. 12.5 on the slope meter. The Wilds is no slouch as well and you can build a big number there but you don't need the same flop shot as the rough is easier. The ball doesn't nestle down deep and is 3/4ths hidden or more. Approaching the Greens: Southview has false fronts for many greens, you know the pin placement due to the color of the flag but you can be 15 yards away and not see any of the green. So many blind shots into so many greens and if you hit it into the wrong spot of the green you will be off and many times in deep trouble. Going for the middle of green is the safe shot but dang now more times then not you are looking at a 2 putt and not getting up and down. The Wild is more straight forward, you can see the greens from the 15 yards and get a read on what the ball will do. They present themselves to get up and down a lot easier if you haven't played the course a lot. Greens in Regulation: Easier on The Wild as their greens are a lot bigger, they can be a beast to putt on though but that doesn't mean you will have more 3 putts. Southview greens are 101 years old and are smaller but they are so much undulation that you have to know how to read greens or you will live in 3 putt land. Miss the greens here by 3' and you have got to have a nice flop in your arsenal. Tie as both are a blast to putt on, both roll real nice and both are fast greens. Fast greens are the best to putt on. Thus for me Southview is the tougher course, I have the distance off the tee where long courses do not put a strain on my game. Both courses are fantastic to play and if you get a chance play them both. A great weekend of golf would be to play 18 on each course.
