They have them at most golf stores in the accessory section where they sell tees, markers, divot tools etc. There are various kinds. Some are electronic and spin the ball to find it's true center of gravity. Some are just a plastic cup you snap the ball into with an opening for you to draw a line. I picked one up at Walmart for 5 bucks, because I also play pool and use a striped ball to determine if I'm hitting off center. But the thing I didn't like about the tool is that the dimples make drawing a straight line next to impossible. It's better to use the ones put on some balls by the manufacturer, and less distracting to the eye.

Take a dozen balls and put them around the hole in a circle. Knock one in and then move to another, if you miss start over from the beginning. If you can make all 12 without missing your putting will have improved AND your confidence will be increased.

I've heard several people use that phrase before and each one of them meant a different thing by it. Which one does it mean? - The length of the grip from the hole, inside that is a gimmie. - Stick the putter head in the hole and anything before the START of the grip is a gimmie. - Stick the putter head in the hole and anything that isn't farther away than the end of the club is a gimmie. Unless all grips are the same, which on putters they don't seem to be, and the shafts are the same length, there doesn't seem to be a fair way to do it. Also, how much time do you really save by not taking 10 seconds to knock in an 8 inch putt?

I just started playing so I play the cheapest thing I can at the moment, which is Top Flite XL 5000's. $11.97 for a 15 pack. Once I stop feeding a 3 per round to the ponds and lakes, I'll try to find one I like better.

Anyone Else buy a Scotty Cameron Ball Tool?
Smarf replied to iacas's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Sorry for being so confusing. 9.99 was the starting bid on eBay that I saw for the shield type. It's buyout price was 15.00. There were no bids with an hour or so left, so I figured 9.99 was a safe price estimate. One other thing. I saw in the Scotty Cameron video that it was approved for tour play, but an article I read on a USGA ruling says the following: The rule that addresses this situation is Rule 8-2 , Indicating Line of Play. Rule 8-2a addresses this question for all situations "Other Than on Putting Green"; Rule 8-2b addresses the question for "On the Putting Green." On the putting green, the answer is a quick "no." The player, his partner or either of their caddies are allowed to point out the putting line prior to - but not during - the stroke; however, they are not allowed to touch the green in so doing, and no marks or aids of any kind can be placed on the green (whether prior to the stroke or during the putting stroke). I'd assume a mark was like making a hole in the ground with your tee to indicate your starting line, but the tool sounds like it was fall under an aid. It sounds to me that it would be illegal to put anything on the green to line up your putt. -
Let's see, I have several. These first two are from my youth, when I was maybe 12 or so. My father belonged to a podunk country club way out in the middle of nowhere, and we went often. There was this long dirt road to get to the clubhouse, which you travelled on to get back from the back nine. There was a really nice handicapped fellow that we saw all the time, and he came wobbling out of the club house waving both arms at me. I thought he was just excited to see me as a I booked it down that dirt path at what felt like 30 mph. Right before I slammed in to the gas tank of his car I heard him yell "NOooooo, SCHNOP! SCHNOP!" I probably looked like an idiot flying through the air while laughing my ass off, but I deserved it. And the ass-whooping I got from my dad since he had to pay for the 600.00 damage to the car. One other time, I fetched the cart for my dad (why did he still let me drive it?) and parked it by the putting green which was very sloped and near a gigantic pond. Stupid me of course forget to set the parking break and it rolled into the water. Thankfully not very far, and we were able to get it out. All this was twenty or more years ago. My most recent one was at the local par 3 course I play with some friends of my wife. There was a group of assinine teenagers that were skipping holes, and playing extremely slow. They had us stuck at a standstill as each hole got more and more backed up. We were a threesome and the group behind us had like 6 people in it, so they were never at the tee when we finished a hole. We'd usually hit an extra ball , or practice a chip or putt again. As we were walking off the green, I spotted a ball a few feet short of the green and thought it was my partners so I picked it up for him. This guy at the tee lets out this agonized horrible scream that scared me so bad, I through the ball down like it had bit me. I yelled back an apology and hurried on. It wasn't until later that I realised that idiot had teed off while we were still putting on a 190 yrd par 3.

I had some time to kill yesterday before picking up the wife, so I decided to head to Golf Galaxy. I'm new to golf, so my goal was to figure out what style of putter feels right to me. Whether that be the hosel or shaft bend, mallet vs blade vs funky contraption. I started at one side of the putting area (the cheap side) and worked my way around. One of the last ones I tried was the Rossa Monza Spider, although I'm not sure if it's regular or Bolero. Every put I hit for the next five minutes went dead in from about 10 - 15 feet. It was amazing! Then I looked at the price and saw 200 bucks and my heart sank. I didn't even pay that much for my entire beginner set . I'm still comtemplating it. All the smaller putters I tried, I could actually see the wobble in my stroke and this one seemed to swing like a pendulum perfectly every time. I'm so torn, I don't know what to do. I think I'd feel like an idiot having a super expensive nice putter inside the bag of a 150.00 set of clubs I got at Dicks. Then on the other side, it is the club you use the most and at the most important time. That makes more sense than getting a driver to me.

How do you keep your scorecard???
Smarf replied to Philip9210's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Oh man, this is brilliant and helps me a ton. I was trying to right down my score, what club I used, where it landed (short/long/left/right), number of chips and puts (1C-2P), and a small comment about what I thought I did wrong (hit it fat etc). I was just about to go out and buy a small composition book to take notes before I read this. It will help me a lot and since there are so many unused spots on the scorecard, I can be more organized. -
Anyone Else buy a Scotty Cameron Ball Tool?

Here's one that sells for $9.99: Putting Tool The guy claims he invented it in 2006 but is "just now getting it to market". -
I'm heading out Friday to get more balls for the round on Saturday. Hopefully early because we're supposed to be push 100 for the first time this Summer. I made the mistake of buying a sleeve of four Noodle +'s for 6.00 when I first started playing, and it took me about 4 rounds to lose them all because the water is so shallow I can usually fish it back out with a club. I should play a regular course because on the weekend the par 3 is 25.00 bucks for green fees + cart. I can go to a country club for the much. I play with a friend of my wife's and her husband, and she doesn't feel up to playing a real course yet.

A 12.00 massaging shower head with 500.00 shipping. Here's a review he did of a Ping Anser putter he bought: It was a good putter; I've allready sold it though. I konw a guy named Clark Kent. No kidding that's superman's name and he shore ain't Superman. ---Anyway, he liked the Ping and bought it. Good for me. Good for Superman.---Thanks, George T

Ok thanks for the help. I added up the yardage from the back tees and it's only 2600 for 18 holes, so it's not usable. I'm nervous about going on a normal course, I lose enough balls in the water on the Par 3 course.
-
I have a nice par 3 course with 27 holes near me, that I play every weekend. I used my four most recent scores to get my handicap but I'm beginning to wonder if it's accurate. It has a slope rating (100), so maybe it is. Although, I'm sure if I had to hit that cursed driver, I'd do even worse on a real course. Should I just wait until I play on a "real" course before trying to figure out my handicap?

Wouldn't that be a bogey? First shot = 1 stroke Water = 1 stroke On to green = 1 stroke Putt = 1 stroke
-
The second one will be faster. It takes 100 times as much speed to go 100 feet in one minute than it does to go 1 foot in one minute. As for the number of revolutions... If you walk around a one foot track in one minute and I walk around a thousand foot track in one minute, we both still did the same number of laps. You're just slower at it.

Sun Mountain Four 5 Stand Bag - Divider Question
Smarf replied to U345387's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Is there some kind of advantage to NOT having 14 full length dividers in a bag? They seem pretty hard to find, and it seems like the most sensible option to me. Or is it because it adds weight and/or cost? -
It's because when you're looking around for clubs and you find this sweet deal that's 50% off the normal price, and then you notice the LH at the end of the title. And then you weep into your tissue clutched in your dominate right hand.

It could just be a troll, trying to poke fun at someone from the area. Although why they'd waste a listing fee on eBay to do it is beyond me. I just have a little more hope for humanity to believe it's truthful.

I just started playing again after having not touch a golf club in 20 years. My wife met a lady at work that just took up golf with her husband, so I meet them every Saturday to play a local par 3 while we get our game in shape. I've got a memory that would make a goldfish laugh at me, so I write down every club I use on each hole and how it went. This would help me a lot more if I could remember to bring the old scorecard with me the next time I played, but I never do. Do they make little golf notebooks for keeping track of this information, like the ones the pro's use on TV? Or are they just yardage books you buy at a certain course?
