  1. So, you say "Dumb solution in my opinion" since when is hitting it long and wrong a skill, not in my opinion.
  2. Every body has an opinion, yours is yours and others are theirs, doesn't mean everyone else is wrong. I respect your opinion however.
  3. Right now a set of 10 yr. old KZG Forged M-II Irons, and they are great.
  4. Like Jack said the other day, it is not the Head of the Club, but the Ball that should be rolled back. True or not ?
  5. I don't care how long who hits it, but what I do care is the complete changes that they make to pacify the few Bombers. They have changed so many great courses with what they call Tigerizing that they have lost their individuality and are just a series of 18 Driving Ranges where the "normal" hitter is out. Take last week for example, Potter was as much as 60 yrs behind DJ, who is exceptionally long I admit, but why should the average guy have to look thru Binoculars to see his partner is, ridicules!!!!! Keep the Balls and the Drivers, but make the holes, if they have to change them, tougher, put hazards in the fairways on the 310+ holes so it takes some skill for long hitter to hit the Driver, is having some skill a problem? But it will go on like this and as equipment people figure out how to go longer the players will get stronger, bigger, and science will develop them, so the rest of us are doomed to Hernias.
  6. Ah, so I am not the only one who is sick of listening to the banter of a bunch of fool announcers who can't even get it right half the time. The talking heads just have to bump their gums with inane comments constantly.
  7. Yup, we all swung hard because the Driver was a lot heavier in those days and you could go at it and retain balance and tempo. Todays Drivers are so light it is hard to swing hard and stay on balance and tempo. Todays Drivers weight around 11 oz. and a shaft at 100 is considered heavy, we also have rebound max. faces, larger heads and the clubs are longer, i know, that can be argued, but in those days the normal Driver was 43 in, a steel shaft at 130 gr. and 13 oz with a COR of 7.5, so you see the difference. So bottom line you had go after it to get the distance, and 260 was considered a long Dr. Have you ever hit a Wood Driver with steel shaft? If not you should.
  8. There is a huge difference between now and then. By then I don't mean not 25 but 40 yrs ago in the era of Arnie and Jack when it was a totally different game played with Wood and Balata. The courses were different and at times very fast without the modern watering system,. There were no personal Trainers to work with us and of course no equipment to show what specs we needed for our best game. We just ordered the clubs to what we felt were our specs and figured out how to use them. The best players had the talent to make it work. Length was always a good thing and I didn't care if I was in the rough, trees, or whatever cause I was very long and alway had a shorter shot to the Green and my up and down game was very good. Most of the Pros had club speed of around 105 to 115 and mine was a usual 110 that I could kick up to 117 if needed with a 13.5 Driver at 43.5 in. D7 with a TT Dynamic 135 gr. X tipped 1 in. to XX, It was a different time. Then metal came in, SS was in, then came Titanium which was faster and now who knows what is next. In those days I was a +4 and played a few PGA events and a couple of Majors but no desire to make it a career, but I did have the honor of playing with several of the legends and they were good, very good. Todays players are fine tuned machines made for Golf with their trainers and with equipment fitter for them like a Grand Prix Car. Speed and distance is the game and it all geared for that, truly a different game. Is it better? Us old timers think not and the young people think it is and so goes the discussion. The fact is it is different, very different. I know I would like to play one round while I am still around with todays equipment personally fitted for me,,,,, It would be very interesting.
  9. I guess this may be off topic, but what if you are the longest out there but can't Putt a lick, what good is the distance then. Just wondering.
  10. Wow, what a tense situation only to be solved by a few stitches. Funny, I was in a Golf Mart the other day and they had a bunch of straps in all colors and styles. Oh well, glad you got THE strap fixed.
  11. To say length is not an advantage is stupid!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. I am not having a pissing contest with you, but overtime I say anything you come right on and dispute it. Yes you do response and I cannot for the World you think you are the God of Golf. There are a lot of people out there who know things. Look I ido not really care what you or who you are, I came in here to try to help some people understand things, but obviously your goal is to allow that. So quit being a know it all, you too can learn. I hope you have Happy Hollidays, I am not really the A Hole you think I am.
  13. I see, and of course you are the man. And surprisingly I know how to swing a club. I managed a couple of Opens in my time, but thanks for the information. Oh, by the way, I know my Shit too.
  14. He was impressive, no doubt. Now if only the Golf Channel would get off their knees in front of him it would be nice. How long will it last though, that is the question. Looking at his swing with the speed and the posting on his left leg it could be not long before he injures his leg and Back again. I heard them say he was scheduled for another back procedure. Posting the left leg, AKA locking it after/thru impact whips the club and injuries are plenty from that. Lower back, shoulder, and knees are way too common from what the "GURUS" are teaching today.
  15. Like yea, she definitely is an asset to Ladies Golf, Bland hair or not. Like ya know, if she only would walk away from Ledbetter. Like you know.
  16. Lihu, those of us that have been in the game for a while know for a fact that nothing is going to change. Just like anything it is money that drives the game and the club makers, ball makers, gadget makers, and Gurus are not going to change a thing as far as a roll back.
  17. To one and all. No matter what size the Driver, how light the Driver, how easy to hit the CB and GI irons and the "Hot" Ball, you still have to play the game. You have to be accurate and have good short game and be a good Putter and the majority of people will never have the skills to play well, but if they are going to play just enjoy what you can do. Whether you shoot par or 100 it is your game and that is the bottom line. We all don't have to be perfect and Golf is not a perfect game. Enjoy the game;
  18. There was a good friend of mine named Jim Flood who was the guy who started Aldlla Graphite Shafts, did the Basakward Putter, the Orizaba line of clubs, the Power Pod Driver, and a Engineer/ inventor of other Golf products. He did a lot of testing and came up with 300cc as the perfect size for a Driver. In fact he was instrumental in Callaways first Titanium VFT Driver which was and is still a great product. I know some will scoff at this but I am just saying what he said and have used a VFT for many years. In fact I dug it out the other day and took it to the Range and it was right with the new Drivers. Mine is 9 degrees with an RCH stiff shaft. Take it for what it is worth.
  19. Hey Sciaffer, If you can find some lead powder you can put it down the shaft and cork it or even sand will do it. It has been found you can add up to 5 points down the shaft and not affect the club other than to ass Swinweight, which is 1 pt. per 2 grams of weight. You may have to remove the grips, pout the material down the shaft and with a rod pound a small cork down to hold the material, like we used to do it in the day. Today they use tip weights where the shafts have to be removed to add them. Good luck and hope this helped.
  20. I am not upset I know everyone has an opinion. Please don't read into it, I named nobody,so don't take it persoally, please.
  21. Whew Marty, that was a mouthful. First of all IF they ever "Dumb down" the Ball, which I do not believe will ever happen or needs to happen if they just added some things to make the Pros, and that is who it is all about, hit something other than long and straight. All balls have to submitted to the USGA for approval and are put on a non conforming list if they do not meet the requirements and usually, at least when I played they ask you what you are playing. Same with Drivers. There are people on the first and 10th tee looking into your bag and recording what you are playing, that is Ball, Irons, Woods, Putter, etc and sell this information to people, usually Manufacturers to check on their staff players or whatever. I can't recall their name but they have been around for years. That being said and that is what it was 49 yrs ago and I belief still today. Anyway, about the Ball. There would be no difference than todays ball except it would be limited, and that is no big deal, they would just go t o the new one in their practice and game,,,, No big deal. I want to make it clear that I do not care about the Ball, but I do think the course designs could be more Penal for the Tour. Lets face it, 20 and more under Par is obscene. Happy Holidays and I hope that helps a bit.
  22. Jack, your post is drawn out and that is okay. I can read the frustration you are having by being chopped about everything you post by those that have no clue. If it ain't science it ain"t Golf. In our days, the days of Arnie, Snead, Jack and so on it was totally different. The equipment was different, there were no "Gurus" out there in the wings waiting to destroy a game for their own personal gaines, and we learned how to do it ourselves. Club choices, wind, perfect yardage was determined by us, no a walking computer they call a caddy. People should not comment on those days when they have no idea. I had the opportunity to tee it up with some of these greats and see what they did, and in some cases it was amazing, and you had to more skill which is something today they just don't get. This is supposed to be a discussion board and with open minds and I thought maybe members would be interested in what we used to do, but I wonder. Happy Hollidays to you and everyone in here.
  23. Yes JxQx, you are confused. Skill goes with beating a difficult course. Sure if you can Drive it long it matters, but when a course plays tough and not just long it is a different story. Long in my day with Wood and Balata was 280, I know cause I was there and in those days I was long. It does take speed to hit it long but even speed is no good if you can't hit it where you need, no different than the old days where the trouble was in reach then also. It is a different game today where power is taught and needed. And the short game is always necessary, even today. Enjoy your game, that is what it is about.
