  1. The funny thing is I bet your are way more likely to see a low capper try this then a high handicapper.
  2. How often do you up on a par three? If you had suggested laying up on a par three to me a few years ago, I would have looked at you like you asked me if I ever considered breathing water rather then air. But as I have gotten better at this game, I find I hit less then driver off lots of tees (maybe half of par 4 and 5s), and now I even lay up on par threes if I think it is a smart play. One par three I lay up on if my swing or the conditions aren't great is 210 par three with ob left, bunkers all around and some troubling trees right. With a bad 210 yard shot and double or even triple bogie is in play. If I lay up with a mid iron, I take all trouble out of play. Par is hard to make with a lay up, but bogie is not a bad score on a hole like this for my cap. Another par three that I think I should start laying up on at times is a 166-185 yard down hill par three. I can hit 8 iron- 5iron into it depending on conditions so it not a long hole for me by any means. But the green has water left, and a nasty pot bunker and tree right. Lots of trouble on this hole if you miss the green, but if you lay up 5 yards short of the green, all the trouble is out of play and you have a very straight forward up and down. I can't say I have laid up on this hole yet, but I have noticed many better players not going for the green on this hole. But as I have put too much draw on the ball ended up in the water, or bailed out and ended up in trouble right too many times for more liking, I am considering playing the lay up here when the wind is blowing. So do you guys ever swallow you pride and lay up on par threes?
  3. 7 iron - 3 wood. I have 210 yard par three I play often with OB left and some trouble trees right, a good swing on a good day its a 5 wood for me. Other days I play defensive and lay up with a mid iron. My average score on this hole is better when I lay up. Given my cap, a 4 is not a bad score on this hole, but a 5 or 6 kills the round.
  4. I have one of these and really like it http://www.theclubglider.com/store/category/clubglider
  5. Give buying used iron a real thought. If you can find what you like you can save big money
  6. +1 This is a good way to do it. When in doubt combine this with air. I tend to giver grips a blast of air, and if I can't get that to work, I try a heat gun and iar. If that doesn't work I use knife unless I really, really, really want to save the grip
  7. I don"t think you need a low bounce 60 at all. I find the I very rarely need to flop a shot from a tight light lie. From the rough 80% of the time I have a lie that I can open up my 56 -14 and flop a shot when needed. By not carrying my 60* I canr carry a 5 wood and I find I use this 3 - 6 times a round as it is a 210 yard club.
  8. Cally will send you a new one, call them up if you have not already
  9. In theory if the grip is too small you will draw/hook the ball. Too big and you will push it. Easy fix, just use some compressed air to remove the grips, add a wrap or two of tape and re-install them.
  10. Just for the record, brass is not as hard as chrome. Chrome rubbed on brass will scratch brass, brass will not scrath chrome. It woudl be like saying, this glass scrathed my diamond. I do metal work from time to time and was brush bushing as they will wear away before the steal will. Use your brass brush and think about it now more, you will do a lot more damage by swinging you club into the dirt.
  11. I broke my bad practice streak. A few things helped. First I booked off 4 hours to practice, so i did not have to rush and then I set a goal for each thing that I was doing. Sand shots- I had to hole out two before I could move on, then I had to make 5 up and downs from around the green. Then I went to full shots and played 18 holes in my head tee to green. This meant I rarely hit the same shot twice in a row, and I had to practice those low under the tree shots. Hopefully this will help me on the course, and not reverse my issue of bad practice, good golf.
  12. PS ignore the whole glove size thing, it does not toake into a coun the size of your palm, vs fingers and the thickness of your fingers etc. go with the mettod of actually holding the grip in your hand, and swinging it.
  13. Yes I would say demo a few out. Grips are $3- $12, if you know how to install them (wich is very easy) you can do allot of demo for very little money. If you have a compressor of somne sort you can even to grips on and off with out much trouble and no damage to them. This coud be reall handy in finding the best size for you. ie go midsized, try them then, take them off and add a wrap of tape and try them again, repeat.
  14. Yes most days we are on mats and I hate them. i have tour striker wich is the only thing I can hit off the mat (no leading edge so you can really hit down)
  15. One thing I can't figure out is I am very bad at the range, or even chipping. I hit shanks and load of crap shots, when I get out on the course I never seem to hit these kind of bad shots???? (i hit shots off line but full on shanks etc) I am considering not going to the range anymore and just stick to play multiple balls on the course for practice. Thoughts?
  16. Find yourself a ball and stick with it, used or new. I like to buy a few dozen new balls and the a bunch of used one. I stat my round with a new ball and then later work in a used ball If I lose my new one.
  17. I guess number 2 is the other way to go, I do have a good pro I work with form time to time, but usaully I just go see him when my swing gets wacky
  18. I don't agree, infact I think I would enjoy myself more if I just accepted the game I have and play it.
  19. My goal is to get to a single diget cap. I guess the point of my post is that i think if stop trying to improve and just played what I had, I would drop several strokes.
  20. My thought too, strengthen you left hand (if you are right handed)
  21. I know this, but what always go through my head is I would hit to hit he ball pure and then go on to make boogie because I flew the green. However a few rounds I went out and tried to hit the ball to the back of the green every time, funny thing is I did it as I knew short would be better, so I swung easy and easy swings go farther.
  22. I am beggining to wonder if I should stop trying to get better at golf? I am a mid 80's players, and most days on most courses I can break 90 no problem, 10% of the time I flirt with breaking 80. My strong part of the games seems to move around, when my swing is off I can scramble well, when my swing is on my short game doesn't seem to be too hot. Either way I seem to get it done and post my 80's score. I seem to be always working on something and trying to improve, of course playing through changes is tough and I am sure that if I just played the same (flawed) way for a year my scores would get better.... but I just can't seem to accept my game. To be honest my ball striking can be very poor at times, so I have been working on building a better swing and I am now much closer to have swing that can stand up and play well, but I am sure once I get my swing to the next stage I decide that I need to improve power or be able to work the ball both ways.
  23. Is grip size also the issue? If you a gripping down ont eh club you have a narrower grip in your hand. After you cut down the driver you may want to regrip with an undersized grip (check it out any way)
  24. I leave that at the club, unless I have an away match, then they are in trunk. Even though my clubs stay at the club I always keep a 7 iron and golf shoes in my trunk, just case I need to kill some time and I am near a range.
