It's like...if I managed to win with this one, I think people just must not be paying attention to the rules because I hated this one, but my friends told me this one and another were their favorites. I absolutely hate seeing myself on camera...especially my golf swing lol. I liked this one more...kind of because you see less of me lol, but I just messed with the color a bit and thought it was more fun instead of serious.

Anyone else seen the Ghost Sightings contest they are running on facebook? If you upload pictures of you showing off your Ghost series putters you have a chance at winning 3 dozen free Penta balls. Seems like an interesting idea, they are only doing it for 4 weeks I think though, they already chose two and I think they choose another one tomorrow but there's still some time left to win the last one. I can't complain, I managed to win week one...though I wondered if they were actually going to contact me...took them nearly a week, and they wont ship for 7-10 days, but eh, free balls are free balls :P Only tip I have is to actually put a picture up that has the freaking putter in it. I was looking around at the other ones trying to figure out how the heck mine won, but all people were doing were uploading their profile pic, or pictures of themselves, I rarely saw one that actually had a putter in it. I hedged my bet and just put all adidas stuff on, a TM hat, and my putter....can't hurt to suck up a little right? lol.

My ball of choice is the Nike One tour D while I can still buy them, I find them to be very durable and still spin like crazy. I can hop and stop it, or pull it back (something I can't even do with the spinnier ones like prov1 or the One Tour). I tried a box of 20XI-X's a month or so ago and they are a little different but when I can't buy the Tour d anymore i may have to start buying them. I also play a 33" Nike Method 001 putter that just works for me, the ball flies off the face if you hit it dead center and just rolls and rolls with ease. I use my TM Corza Ghost later in the year though with the slower greens. I've tried nike products at demo days and they have always impressed me. I hit the VR TW Blades the first year they were out and they were by far the best Irons I hit that day. I also play(ed) the Nike SV Tour chrome wedges which I like but they don't have a whole lot of feel to them, they spin a lot, but feel kind of tingy/dead even on the sweet spot. They got a bad rap at first I think because they just bought a club maker in Texas and just slapped the name/swoosh on them. After a while (probably with some prodding by tiger) they started actually doing their own R&D;, making their own products and catching up to the big guys. I think while they are possibly the worst advertisers (as in too much advertising) they are still one of the most underrated manufacturers, as opposed to Titelist the most *cough*overrated*cough* but play what works for you, no one brand makes the best everything, they all excel in one or two categories.

Phil Mickelson if I remember right had to weaken the lofts on his irons because they were flying too far, not sure if it's true though.

I actually sell these sets at work lol. I have never really had any complaints about either of the ones I sell (We don't have the Wilson K'netic). As a golfer though I usually recommend getting a better one, but ultimately it is the wallet/customer who decides how much they want to pay. The average golfer does NOT want to pay $250 for Adam's A4R Irons (3H-PW) and then still pay for a bag, driver, 3 wood, wedge(s), putter, headcover...etc. Unfortunately this is what I've realized over 4 years at this store. While we aren't exactly a big golfing area, I will sell 1000 of these sets to even 1 of the Callaway X20's or Nike Slingshots or Adam's A4R simply because people who don't golf, or don't golf often rightly understand that it tends to be ridiculously expensive to get into unless you get one of these cheaper beginner sets, they don't want to drop $600 on a full beginner set from a brand name company. But yes in all honesty the clubs are almost identical, just materials differ. If you can get them I would forgoe the Golden Bear clubs and see if you can get a set from Jack's brand that's one step up selling under the Nicklaus brand. (I guess he has a 3 tiered brand, Golden Bear (consumer), Nicklaus (a little more experienced), and then the nicest ones are custom made for you, or so the rep told me at our company expo last year). Between the 3 I would probably recommend the instinct set (or if you can go up get the LD 5 or w/e set if they sell it, it's like $50-100 more), the only issue I've had with Dunlop sets is that irons tend to snap...but being a golfer, i really have a hard time believing that the iron really snapped mid shot when I see where the shaft broke. Bro (cuz it's usually a teenager or someone around my age), just own up to you got pissed, hit it on the ground, or a tree, or rock, or over your knee, we've all done it...just not broken one :P

Believe it or not that was the advice I got a couple of years ago that has made me choose to not pursue people for now :P I'm trying to get my life in order before I drag anyone else into it lol.

Golf shoes for people with flat feet
DarkPrince replied to jswang519's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Just food for thought, but I'd check out Asics golf line. I recommend Asics running shoes to 80% of the customers who walk through my door just due to quality over Adidas/Nike/New Balance (not that the suck...well most Nike's are garbage, you just have to know what to buy). But their Gel-Ace might be something to look into. I personally wear some Adidas Tour 360 LTD's (nowadays it's called the Adipure) and I don't have any support issues, I've got mid to low arches. If you TRULY have absolutely flat feet, I would recommend really just getting a pair of Asics Gel-Evolution ($120) or Gel-Foundation ($100) shoes and just play in them regardless of traction :/ I don't really know of any golf specific shoe that is specifically designed for us. Even the tour pro's put insoles in theirs. -
Watching the brewers lay an absolute turd of a post season was just painful. Someone needs to teach our starters how to throw strikes...jeez. My dad even commented that we should just start a reliever or closer just to get through the first inning without giving up 4 runs...every...single...time lol. Hard to fight back when you're 4 or 5 runs down from the start and you feel like you have to apparently swing at everything *cough*Corey Hart*cough* :P

I'm 23, college graduate, have been single for 3 years now, and it's basically been by choice (that and a lack of interest from the opposite sex :P). Heck, my ex leaving me for another guy is what got me back into golf cuz I needed to get myself to leave my room at some point in time or I was probably going to waste way. It was great while it lasted but ended horribly cuz she likely was cheating on me with the guy I warned her that was hitting on her daily :P She married the guy not even a year and a half after that, but I'm sure she's off happy with him, and I'm happy being single being able to play as much as I want as often as I want and spending my money the way I want to spend it without being made to feel guilty about buying a box of balls worth more than $10 :P But, conversely I'm getting more and more sick of being single because after a while I've just started to miss having that close connection with someone that you can talk to about anything at any time and all that jazz. I think it's part of why even though my game MASSIVELY improved this year until the middle of the year, I started to get burned out because I was out there all day every day, had no social life...etc. I can't say I've done anything crazy or fun other than say splurging on a round at an expensive course. I started reconnecting with friends, I went to like 8 Brewers games, I actually set foot in a bar for like the 2nd and 3rd time in my life lol (not a drinker :P) and while that has made me happy for the first time in a while, there's still part of me that craves that connection. I guess to sum it up, I am content being single, but I wouldn't say I'm happy . But everyone is different, I joke that I'll probably be single for the rest of my life, no drama and all that, but I think eventually I'll run into someone :P

Annoying Things Golfers Say and Do on the Course
DarkPrince replied to Lag Rag's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
i routinely hit 4 iron off the tee on the first hole of one the the 9's at the local course. If i'm playing with someone they always ask. Inevitably I just explain that a 215 yd 4i leaves me pretty much dead on the 150 marker every time, there's 15-20 yards past the 150 that a downhill slope starts...I'd rather leave myself 150 from a relatively flat lie, than 135 on a downslope, or 70 yards out in the rough due to driver...or just going dead OB right with driver. 4 i is the smartest play I can make...since I can't hit my hybrid for crap anymore. I think there are 5 holes of the 27 out there that I hit a 4,5,or 6 iron off the tee just for safety/position sake. Every time someone gives me one weird look, pulls driver, tries to macho it up on the green and usually pulls it in the drink, or pushes it OB :/ -
I had to chuckle at their explanation about the glaciers and whatnot, but the Kettle Moraine area is an extremely popular nature area that runs a good length across wisconsin that people use for hiking, walking, cycling, mountain biking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. There are some pretty big hills and drop offs in the area that some of the courses have used to their advantage, but I could definitely see walking being a bit of a pain for the pros with how hilly it is :P The pictures I've seen of the place are beautiful though, it's like a semi-authentic looking links course....in the middle of Wisconsin haha. I think it looks a bit more authentic than whistling straits, but I think it's because they didn't try so friggin hard to make it something, they just worked with the natural landscape.

I'm interested in trying it since it's about a 45 minute drive from here, but like most courses that have the "we have/will host a major" sticker, the prices jumped, I don't think I could afford to go if I had to pay for more than one person...and caddies. It's just shy of $300 if you don't want to skimp on your caddie tip (if you get a caddie, which I'd probably recommend since the one at Straits saved probably 20 strokes off my score). $200 is a bit steep for me since that's 1/3 of my membership lol, but if I find myself with the money, I certainly want to play it before the Open comes here, I'll probably Volunteer at it as well as Straits again in 2015 for the PGA if I"m still in the area.

He comes out with some pretty outlandish things, and yet McCord was the one who was banned from Augusta for something about saying the greens were as smooth as a fresh brazilan wax or something wasn't he?

I'm actually reading "The Power of Positive Idiocy" right now by him, it's really just a collection of his articles at the back of Golf Magazine, but I'm surprised at even the stuff they let him publish a lot of the stuff he writes for the magazine haha. My mom will walk by and start laughing so hard she snorts half the time Feherty opens his mouth :P

I'm really leaning 50/54/58. I don't mind losing a little bounce because even my 52 I tend to use mainly on full shots and maybe every once in a great while a long running bunker shot or bump/run. Bending it would drop the bounce from 10 to 8, 10 seems excessive as it is for a 52 or at least to me.

Made in USA High Quality Rain Gear?
DarkPrince replied to threeiron's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
haha, I was going to mention it but I couldn't remember if they had issues with Sun Mountain or SunIce :P -
Made in USA High Quality Rain Gear?
DarkPrince replied to threeiron's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Bingo, good luck with that. You can whine all you want about it not being made in the USA, but Nike and Footjoy make by far some of the BEST outerwear on the market, if you really can't stand that they are made in china, vietnam, indonesia...etc, then you're going to have to buy something from dickies and buy a can of waterproofing spray and hope for the best. They may not be paid as nearly much as an American worker, but you'd be surprised of the quality. Stick to Nike, Adidas, or Footjoy. Either way, Don't feed the troll. -
As i said at the end of that post, it's not possible to bend the wilsons because they are cast. Even trying to get half a degree out of them can snap the hosel. Wedges can be bent because they are cast out of much softer types of steel, but the ones used for normal irons isn't pliable enough.

Quote: D (?°), 3w (15°), 4i (23°), 5 (26°), 6 (29°), 7 (32°), 8 (36°), 9 (40°), PW (44°), Wilson Staff GW (48°) , 52°, 56°, 60°, putter? At the moment it's D (9.5º), 3w (15°) Wilson Staff Ci9 [4i (23°), 5 (26°), 6 (29°), 7 (32°), 8 (36°), 9 (40°), PW (44°)] Taylormade Rac MB TP Smoke PW (48°) , 52°, 56°, 60° putter Right now I'm hitting my 4 iron exponentially better than my 4 hybrid (*cough* duck hooks *cough*) and thanks to having to bridge the gap, I had to take my 3 hybrid out (which I might be replacing with something else anyway...hit one of those Adams ProBlack hybrids....om*g bullet) so I'm kind of SOL on long par 3's, it's hit 4 iron and hope the fwy is firm enough to bounce on the front, or choke down on 3 wood and hope I don't hit a low burning squirter off to the right into the trees.

From what I understand, cavity backs, or at least this design, require stronger lofts because the low/perimeter weighting is too good at getting the ball in the air, if they left them at weaker "standard" lofts, the shots would balloon. My old Taylormade Rac MB TP's were almost full on blades so they needed the extra loft to get the ball in the air which I inappropriately combined with a flighted rifle shaft that I guess made them fly high anyway :P Honestly from trying a multitude of different sets at demo days and shops, this was the set that I liked the most. I get that people call it a "4 wedge setup" because pitching wedge has wedge in the name....but I in no way use it as what I would term a wedge because i only use it for full or maybe 3/4 shots. The 52/56/60 are the real wedges that are actually for the goofy shots around the green. I might use a PW or 9i for a long bump/run chip, but that's the extent of their use around greens lol. Even if I wanted to trade these in, I dropped 400 bucks and would maybe get 85 back in trade in (current price) since they are used, and I doubt i'd make much money on ebay since they are customized at 2* flat for the lie angle and only 4-pw instead of 3-GW or 4-GW. The lofts between these and the other set I liked (Mizuno JPX800 Pro) were the same or 1* weaker throughout the set. I think it's really just the design of this style of club. (Also, as they are a cast iron set, I cannot have them bent at all at the risk of snapping the hozel in two).
-
This was what I was probably going to do. I can get the Callaway jaws wedges or the Wilson Staff FG Tour wedges for a discounted rate through work....but the callaway ones I get a much better deal on. since the demo days are essentially over for the fiscal/calendar year, It's pretty much a crap shoot whatever I buy, but I could buy the 52/54/58 and get the 52 bent to 50 or something. I can't really justify dropping $360 +shipping on 3 vokeys or clevelands when I can get others legitimately for a fraction :/
-
So I've had my new irons for a month or so now, and I'm still trying to figure out what to do about the fact that my pitching wedge is now 44* instead of 48*. I used to carry 48* (PW), 52*, 56*, 60*, but for now I've had to take the 48* pw out of my old set and put it in just for distance coverage. I'm looking at something like 48 54 60 or something ,or 50,54,58 possible. My problem is that it's like only 2 companies actually have 48 or 50 wedges that exist or stores have in stock without special ordering. I know Vokeys have the biggest loft/bounce options and they go all the way down to 48, Callaway jaws wedges I can find down to 50 as well as the Wilson Staff wedges, and Clevelands go down to 48 as well. I can't seem to find anyone who has wedges you could actually hit any any store. When I went to the demo day I was looking at irons only so I didn't bother touching wedges other than to warm up so I dropped the ball on that :P Currently I think my 52 is around 115-120, 56 is 100-110, and 60 is 80-100 on full swings. my problems is my new "PW" goes like 135-140. With the 48* extra pW in the bag I've had to take out a long iron (or hybrid depending on the day) to make room for it, and it hasn't bothered me too much except on LONG par 3's and long par 4's, but atm I'm going D,3w,4i,5,6,7,8,9,pw,pw*,52,56,60,putter. The other funny thing is I'm starting to hit the old PW as hard/far as my new PW despite the 4* difference. I don't know if it has to do with the different designs or what but the old one was a blade and the new is a player/gI cavity? I'd like to find a good balance to cover the 44-60* if anyone has any ideas? I'm not looking to rip back wedges or tear apart balls or anything so that's not really my focus. Oh yeah atm I'm playing Nike SVTour 52* Taylormade Z-TP 56* Nike SVTour 60*

Time trial bars are an interesting addition for basic riding :P

Today I had to take on the guy who held the course record at my home course in match play. He's a 3 hc, and I'm at 10, so I got 4 shots on the front, and 3 on the back. I ran into my old HS golf coach (and instructor from when I was like 10) when I was warming up on the range before hand. I told him what I was doing there, who I had to play and what not, he just looks at me and tells me straight that Jeff is one of the best players out here, and especially one of the best drivers of the ball in the area. So he told me not to even bother worrying about outdriving him, or being out driven, He hits the ball a mile off the tee and is pretty accurate, but that the rest of his game is average. So I resolved to only pull driver on holes that I feel absolutely no risk at putting myself in any trouble, meaning I only hit driver 5 times, so the other 9 tee shots were 3W or a 5i just to keep it in play/put it in decent position. What do you know, I shoot my lowest ever score of 74 (he shot 69 but due to my strokes i won the match 1Up thru 18) At one point in time i had a 2 hole lead because he was doing what I normally do, try to drive short par 4's, leaving himself awkward pitch distances and whatnot. I tried to leave myself anywhere between 75 and 115 on my approach shots and just 2 putt every green in regulation if I wasn't close enough for birdie. Just play for the center of the green and hey...what do you know....it works haha! No birdies, but 14 pars and 4 bogies all day. Played another 9 later in the day and shot +1 when I was just going for everything for the heck of it. Birdie Bogie Bogie Par Par Par Par Bogie Birdie. The bad holes were just bad course management simply put.
