I don't lift it. I make a huge shoulder turn but with no lifting of the left heel. My swing is very very similar to Tiger's. Huge shoulder turn and lots of tension in my hips and legs to get that coil effect. When I first started I lifted my left heel and my swing was so much worse than it is now. I went so far back I bent my left elbow 90* on my backswing. Looked like Daly but cheating and no shoulder turn.

There is hope to becoming a 300 yard hitter
mhodar13 replied to DiverDown's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I went to the range today and it was just nuts. I was putting my drives out there near 300, my 3 wood was going 250, and my 5 wood was going 230. I used to rarely hit my drives that far, now I'm just bombing it flat out. -
If it's a skymark, then there is no removing it. It's there forever, but there is a light. Go to Home Depot, and look in the paint aisle for Rustoleum American Accents Craft and Hobby Enamel. It comes in a small jar for I think 2 bucks. If your driver is glossy black on top, then get it in gloss black. If not, there are many other colors as well. Then, take a fine craft paintbrush and brush over the mark with the paint until you get it how you want. You will still see it if you look really close, but you won't be able to see it at address. I put an ugly skymark on my Burner and I used this paint and my it worked good. Like I said you can see the mark real close but not at address even in the bright sunlight. I've touched up chips as well. The paint has yet to wear off where the skymark is, though I have had to repaint a few chips after it wore off. But, try this and see how it works. Just remember: looks do not in any way affect the performance of the club, so don't worry. Best of luck to ya, mhodar13

Need some drastic help with my driver!!!
mhodar13 replied to o9z1's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
If you're stll feeling funny from the shot I'd say to take a rest and just practice around the yrd with wiffle balls to try and regain the muscle memory of your old swing back. Don't be afraid to come around way inside. -
I'm 14 and gonna be 15 in September. I've been golfing seriously since last September.

Ok so my brother is 9 and gonna be 10 this sunday. He's recently been enjoying golf and getting more serious about the game. He isn't at the stage yet where he is trying to refine anything to get better but he is somewhat serious about playing. My question is, since he is only 10 and doesn't have the strength that I and others do, would a softer ball help him to compress the ball and get some more distance? He hits about 150 to 175 on good shots, but I think a softer ball might help him. How is the Treosoft? What else has a really low compression for slower swingers that isn't 45 bucks a dozen? He pretty much uses anything right now. I use e7+'s which I believe are 70 compression with great results, so I'm leaning heavily towards Bridgestone. I've heard the e6+ is softer as well. Let me know what you guys think. Also if you have any reccomendations on a driver for him let me know. He is currently carrying 2: one is a nike kid's 18* driver that used to be mine, and the other is a Taylormade ti bubble 2. The shaft of the nike is just about right in length but too lofted for him. Has anyone ever altered an adult driver to fit a younger kid? I think at his level he could really use the forgiveness of a 460cc head. Maybe a Walter Hagen or something to keep it cheap? Let me know what you guys think and also what you would reccomend for a forgiving driver that isn't too much $$$. I'm looking at the walter hagen aws at dick's and it looks good but a 65 gram shaft is too much for him to swing easily. Do they make specialized shafts for kids?

Anyone else have any input on this series? -
golf galaxy vs. Golfsmith vs. sporting goods
mhodar13 replied to clearwaterms's topic in The Grill Room
So far I've gotten everything from Dick's Sporting Goods. I know I will get my outter and lobwedge there when I do also because they always run the ones I want half priced. When I get new irons, I will most likely go to Golf Galaxy to get fitted as there is one about 30 minutes from me. Dick's isn't bad for golf though. They just don't have a launch monitor. I've never actually been in golf galaxy yet. -
Ok, so hee's what I did. I sprayed clear-coat over all of the trouble areas, which sealed it again. Then I used a coat of turtle wax on the shaft and it came out great. I flexed the shafts at different points to make sure they weren't weakened and they aren't. So, it's all good.
-
Anyone? What could I reseal the chips with? I don't really care about how it looks I just can't afford 3 new shafts at the moment. I don't think it affects the club as is, I just wanna seal it so it doesn't wear anymore. It was from the plastic divider in my bag but I put tape over the divider until I eventually get a new bag.

How to make good use at the range?
mhodar13 replied to timastyle's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I like to try new things I read about at the range. Another tip i'd give is not to worry about grip and posture and whatever else so much. Just make sure you're swinging on plane and straight, you're getting that spring affect between your hips and shoulders, and you're making solid contact. As long as you're doing those three things, you're not doing anything wrong. Everyone is different from one another. Don't be afraid to be unconventional. Jim Furyk is proof of that theory. -
Ok so there are some chips on all 3 graphite shafts of my woods and I brushed over them today with black hobby paint. They were barely through the black paint on the shaft. So, I was wondering - will this have any effect on the performance of the clubs or is it fine now that it's been sealed again? Thanks

There is hope to becoming a 300 yard hitter
mhodar13 replied to DiverDown's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I know how good of a feeling it is. I went Monday for 9 holes and I hit one about 290 and even my shortest was about 260 or so. The 290 was on a short 301 yard par 4 and my drive was about 5 yards off the green. I used to hit about 240 average with a nasty slice so now that I'm hitting em' dead on straight I guess it makes sense that they're approaching 300 yards every now and then. -
1. Woods 2. Paddy 3. Stricker 4. Goosen (my favorite pro btw) 5. Lefty I'd place Phil higher, but he is just too inconsistent compared to the other 4.

Bridgestone e+ series review
mhodar13 replied to mhodar13's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Cool. I love this ball. Like I said, it doesn't help if you just balloon your drives, but if you feel you're being robbed of a few yards by your ball flight, than these should help. I hope I get more for my birthday in September. -
Monday I was golfing and somebody on the next fairway over toed it and it brushed through my hair. No fore apology either.

Bridgestone e+ series review

That's what I thought. They are great but not in the way everydday people think great. They are grwat smooth riding performance tires, but not great in durability and grip. I'm sure that bridgestone makes good all-weather tires too. -
Well, i'm probably not gonna get out today for 18 but me and my uncle are hoping to play before next week so if we do I'll definitely let you guys know how I score.
-
Thankfully, I'm only 14 and already put my slice to rest before it became muscle memory. All I did was research what causes a slice, worked on it myself, and now I'm hitting all my drives dead straight like butter and far to boot. I hit one about 290 today! There's no way I could ever afford to take lessons, so I'm thankful to have an uncle who has and helps me for free lol. But I fixed my driver swing all by myself so I'm pretty proud that I could do that without coaching from anyone. My uncle helps me with everything, but I help him with driving. It sucks if you have a slice because you have to compensate for it. It's so much more enjoyable to spend a few weeks working hard on your swing and not have to guess where it's going to go on every drive.
-
How tall are you? Seems like you crouch a ton at address.
-
My uncle is like that too. Today there was a 216 yard par 3. I hit a full 4 iron, and he hit a weak 3 wood. But, guess who hit the green? Not me lol.
