  1. rdubya59, Thanks for your comments on the Jumbomax Grips which are an integral component of his equipment and swing. So many golfers are afraid to try something "outside the box". We've all been taught that in order to release the club, it needs to be held in the fingers. There are many differing opinions on the subject, but we have found that when the club is held in the fingers, the face angle at impact becomes much more timing sensitive. That's why you see some pros winning for a time, then they disappear from sight. When they're on, they're on, but when their timing is off, they are spraying the ball all over. When the grip is held more in the palms, as with our oversized grips, the face is square for a much longer time. It's simple physics. Think of driving a go-cart with a very small steering wheel. A small movement in the wheel causes a big movement in the vehicle, whereas a school bus or truck steering wheel is larger and you have to turn it more to affect the vehicle. If you watch videos of Moe, he said that golfers struggle because they are trying to rotate the club at impact and time it. He always took the club back square and simply hinged his wrists at the top, then delivered the club back along the same path without any manipulation of the wrists. That's why he hit the ball so straight. I'm glad you were open minded and gave our grips a try. I hope with the recent NCAA win and the U.S. Amateur win as proof, more people will be receptive to the idea of larger swing grips (we are the only company making them that large, by the way). We coined the term Finger-palm™ grip to describe our methodology. As a final note, there are other amateurs coming up in the ranks playing JumboMax and having impressive results. The 2015 California State Fair Amateur Champion just won using our large size grip! Regards, Dale Rehus Vice President JumboMax Golf Grips
  2. The lime green and black one is the grip I use. I really like the size. Not too big, not too small. Just big enough to keep your grip light and take out the twitchy muscles. I've been using it a new stainless steel, milled Radius Face putter made by R & B Putters. Very nice combo.
  3. Dubs Dread at Cog Hill, Lemont, IL. Looks pleasant enough but anything off the greens is in a bunker so deep you can't see the putting surface. Ate us all up. Stay in play and its a treat.
  4. Ernest and Golfs-for-Fun, If you can set aside your preconceived notions and what you have been told about grip size, putting a JumboMax Grip on your driver may be the best $11 you will spend on golf equipment. I was a skeptic myself until the inventor, Mike Kachlik, took me to the driving range and let me try them firsthand. It took me a few swings to adjust, but I was hitting the ball so much straighter, I was convinced. I now work for the company. In the early days of golf, the shafts were made of a small tree, whittled down to be the correct diameter so it would offer the right amount of flex. The club makers then fashioned a piece of leather around the shaft for the grip. It had nothing to do with what fit the human hand. We had to adapt to this too-small size through various gripping techniques which most people still struggle with. Mike saw this as a potential flaw in club design and decided to explore it further. He looked at other stick sport handles (and hand tools for that matter) and wondered why golf grips were so small in comparison. Baseball bats, tennis rackets and hockey sticks are all much larger, yet they feel comfortable in our hands when we hold them. Mike began experimenting with golf grips in larger diameters and through his own trials found that they easily outperformed "standard" size grips in accuracy and distance. Testing on hundreds of golfers of varying abilities confirmed his findings. Now it was a matter of developing the combination of materials which would produce a larger handle, offer the correct amount of cushioning and yet retain the torsional strength and twist-resistance a better player would require. The result of his 5 years of development and testing is the patented JumboMax Grip. JumboMax Grips provide maximum gripping power with the minimum amount of grip pressure required. Because they fit your hands better, you automatically hold it correctly with light grip pressure so you will actually release the club better with more club speed. It is also easier to bring the club face back to square at impact much more consistently. I know it flies in the face of "conventional" thinking, but it is only because we have all been introduced to golf with a certain size grip and that is what we've come to accept as "normal". Once people see how much easier golf can be using a grip that is easier to hold correctly and control, we think that the JumboMax grip will become the norm. I hope you will at least give them your consideration, and I welcome any questions or comments! Dale Rehus VP Sales & Marketing JumboMax Golf Grips
  5. Swing weight, or moment of inertia, is measured on a club at the industry standard point 14 inches from the grip end of the club. But your hands actually pivot at a point closer to 6 inches from the end of the club. This is why a heavier Jumbo or "super-oversized" Grip on woods and irons will, in the mechanical sense (the scale) lessen the swing weight, but since the weight of the grip is distributed half above the true pivot point and half below, the club with a jumbo grip will feel the same to that player. Tests with real players and super-oversized grips confirm this and we have tested thousands of golfers. Change your grips based on what feels good and works to control the club. If you want to increase or decrease the swing weight, stick with other methods.
  6. I switched to super oversize grips by JumboMax after a friend let me try his. They are the size of a baseball bat handle, but they made me hit the ball way straighter. I have average size (M/L) mitts. My friends borrow my driver with the fat grip when we're playing a tight driving hole now.
  7. I have a M/L hand and use JumboMax oversized grips in a Lg. I've never hit the ball so straighht and far. Got 'em on all my sticks. Would never go back to reg.
  8. I recently went unconventional after being introduced to "super-oversized" grips, and I would never go back to a standard grip. The improvement in my distance and accuracy was immediate. They are the size of a baseball bat grip and they allow you to place your hands very softly on the club without clamping down on the grip. I can go at the ball harder and stay in control. For me, they work really well, and I didn't need to adapt to a different swing (as in natural golf). I wear a M/L glove, swing speed is 103 and I'm a 9 Handicap.
  9. The grip solvent sold commercially at GolfSmith, Dicks or Golf Galaxy is nothing more than hardware-store available, low-odor mineral spirits. Low-odor mineral spirits is a mild solvent, which evaporates slowly and gives you ample time to install the grip. It is not for use with water-based double-sided gripping tape. I would never use lighter fluid or gasoline! They can be extremely dangerous and will also eat away the rubber of certain grips. Stick with the mineral spirits and traditional grip tape and you can't go wrong. As with any solvent, never wad up any rags and throw them in a garage corner or trash can. Let them air dry to evaporate the solvent first so you don't run the risk of spontaneous combustion from heat build-up.
  10. Jumbo or "Super-oversized" golf grips are an amazing new development in golf. I'm not talking about slightly larger grips, I'm referring to grips which feel like the size of a baseball bat handle. My cousin, an inventor of golf products and scratch golfer introduced me to super-oversized grips over a year ago and I would never go back to a standard skinny grip. The larger size feels so much better in my hands (I wear a M/L glove) and produces way better golf shots, both in distance and accuracy. I think it has to do with being able to relax my grip on the club and swing more freely, yet I retain better control of the club through impact. I would not listen to those who say they don't work. Try them for yourself and see if you hit better shots. If so, go for it!
