  1. First time in my life I broke 90 (89) on Thursday. I was shocked. All of a sudden my putter started working. Sank a 30 ft'er and several other varying lengths and the ones I missed, was oh so close. My driver let me down, going right all day. I wasn't used to that. I just need to chip better out of thick rough. Hit two large baskets at the range. Took me a long time but finally straightened out my driver by standing a little closer, more upright with a taller shaft angle. It worked.
  2. My natural flight is straight to fade. it varies. I do have to use a strong grip to keep the driver straight. lately though my irons are fading which is probably due to the jumbo grips I was convinced to purchase.
  3. I have practiced on the range and can get varying degrees of draw but its more of a hook in that it starts straight and ends up left. How do you start the ball right and end up center. Thats my issue.
  4. Ok, to start. I've been hitting straight with standard grips on my callaways. But 3 years later, they are worn out and i'm finally getting the regripping thing. Was set on GP tour velvet cord. They didn't have any. He convinced me to get jumbo lamkins even though my hands are only medium in size. After I left my clubs there and went home, I changed my mind and asked not to put the jumbos on. He had already finished regripping. So, I went to the range right away to test them out. Even though there was a fairly strong left to right breeze, I think these damn jumbos are inducing a fade/slice by not letting my wrists release. Going to try on the range in the morning to make final decision but i'm doubtful.
  5. I was set on getting GP tour velvet cords but Nevada Bob's only had velvet wraps. The tech was an older guy and looked like he'd been re-gripping clubs for alotta years. He ended up convincing me to get Lamkin Jumbo's. I only have medium size hands but he figured they'd be good for me. After a few hours, I phoned back and said I wasn't happy with my decision...but he had already finished regripping. I picked them up and drove straight to the range. Wind was blowing right to left but I'm fairly convinced these damn jumbos are inducing a fade; not letting my wrists release. I don't know why I agreed to these since I hit fairly straight with standard grips, I would have at least gone to a medium. Gonna try the range in the morning to make a final decision. Anyone else have issues with jumbo grips? With medium size hands?
  6. Show me a link for that price. I've seen a little cheaper but not $70. Thats gotta be stolen or badly used.
  7. Just bought a Detour on ebay for $187 canadian. We'll see if it plays as good as it looks. I'm pretty flexible when it comes to swing adjustments. But my putting is sorely in need of help.
  8. Just purchased a clearance Detour 1 on ebay for $187 canadian. Ahhh, the bidding wars.
  9. How would I find out if mine are still in the Callaway cart? They are the first year of the Fusion irons.
  10. I've been playing with callaway fusion's right off the rack for 3 seasons. I'm 5'11 with about a 34" wrist to floor measurment. According to the callaway chart, I'm ok at playing standard clubs. I don't have much of a problem connecting with the ball. But if I were to get fitted. Can they fit my current clubs to me. Or do you have to buy new clubs after a fitting. From what i've been reading, clubs need to be purchased after the fitting is done. I do suppose I could get my swing speed checked, etc. M@
  11. I work in the Oilsands in Fort McMurray. Golf all summer in Edmonton.
  12. Looking to finally get serious with some wedges. Currently only have a PW and an american open 56 sand wedge. Just started to try to understand all the technical jargon around wedges. I have my mind set on the oil can bob vokey's. Thinking I'm gonna go ahead and get the sand, gap, and lob wedge. Wondering how often a gap wedge is used on avg. Not sure about the lie and bounce I should get. What are the the pros and cons for the different variatons?
  13. Currently have a 10 year old Ping Hoofer. Its served me well over the years but never did like the straps, hard to adjust perfectly but then again they were of the early generation of double straps. The stand legs never did deploy well; I'd always have to push down to get them to come out far enough. One of the straps recently broke off the bag so its time for a new one. I play Callaway clubs so was thinking of getting a hotstand or terra firma, although since everyone loves the Ping I may look at another. I love carrying just cause I feel push cart or power cart is lazy and i'm a young 31. I do cart when necessary.
  14. I'm sure some of you can all be pumped for me when I tell you I finally broke 100 and almost broke 90 if it weren't for the triple on 18. 93!!!!!! The gods were smiling on me that day. I don't know why or how but things just clicked and I am really happy about it. It's a great feeling when you join the 10%'ers that break that magic number.
  15. I'm looking at getting my Fusions fitted and regripped with Winn's. Not sure on the stiff or soft grips though. I hit fairly well with the standard grips I have with my irons. Start fading with the 3 iron and driver. So not sure about what I need.
  16. Ok, hit the range today and good stuff happened. First of all i'm alot less sore from doing bench at the gym 3 days ago and now with the golf. I'm still having good results hitting fades and draws with the irons. Tried the driver and started off bad but eventually I got it down. Only thing I feel is because I'm closing my stance I don't feel like I'm getting the same distance as with my regular stance. It is a shot I'm happy to have though. Gonna work on the high cut now.
  17. They might have to catch up on their second and third shots but then they are holding the flag while i'm last to putt. I'm working on that.
  18. Cheers Brotha! I rock it off the tee and always wait for the others to catch up.
  19. I totally agree about working on my short game. I always do. I started this thread to ask about draws and only draws. If I wanted to be told about short game I would start that thread. Draws can help someone score better just as much as any other part of the game.
  20. I'm sure you mean draw right? I don't have a problem hitting the fade. I've always thought you really need to power the draw anyway and not slow things down. And why is it so hard for ppl to believe a 30 or so hndcp can't hit 300yds. Todays equipment makes it pretty easy. I played with a Great Big Bertha for years and got 290 out of that.
  21. Get right on that Coming from someone that uses a 13.5 degree driver I can see why you would never see 300yds.
  22. Thanks everyone who has given their good knowledge so far. I just went out and bought some foam practice balls so I can try it in the backyard. Golfing Friday, and Sunday so I'll definitely give it a whirl there.
  23. Can't post anything without someone questioning . I didn't ask anyone if I should worry about working on my weaknesses did I. If you really need to know I am a solid 300+ with the driver and solid with my long-mid irons. I lose strokes around chipping and putting. If I need your input about that I'll ask otherwise what keeps you at a 19 index??? All I want is an added skill for my solid long game on a specific difficult par 5. So keep it in context.
  24. Left foot back?? Wouldn't that set me up for a fade. I had my left foot forward in a closed stance for the irons and that draws the ball. I do hit right handed.
  25. I tried shaping the ball last year on the range just for fun but never wanted to try it on the course. This year I feel like adding it to help my range. Play alot of courses in the Edmonton area that require different shots. Last course I played theres a monster 550+ par 5 with about 250yds of water down the right side and then starts uphill on the last 250yds. The last 2 times I played that hole I've dunked it in the water. I don't want to play conservative because its such a long and uphill hole. I tend to fade the ball and its a narrow fairway so there in lies my problem. I'm playing that course again sunday. I want to attempt a draw off the tee next time. Managed to draw my irons today with relative ease. Closed my stance, slightly closed the face of the club and swung through. Practiced slight draws and heavy draws. Seemed to work well. Tried the same thing with the driver and could only hit it straight. I think its because the driver is longer and harder to manipulate. I need the fundamentals for an easy way to draw the ball with driver. Thanks
