  1. The context of your post was with regards to Tigers petulance and pouting, not mine. You also state that “golf is fun first and foremost”. Which is why I assert that few if any can compete with Tiger. Tiger does not play tournaments for fun, he plays to win. I do think most players including Phil are hoping they win, and if they do great. Instead of walking around with a goofy grin, Tiger is the essence of concentration, something Phil would do well to acquire. Are you suggesting that Tigers on-course etiquette is somehow boorish or ill mannered? I would assert that Tigers demeanor is one a notch below the revered Ben Hogan. Ben does not seem to garner the criticism that you suggest Tiger deserves. I see Tiger as role model for anyone. His tenacity, generosity, and social consciousness are much to admire. Phil has a lot to learn from Tiger.
  2. ...probably the reason there are so few in golf to give the petulant pouter a run for his titles...
  3. Phil was not happy when Tiger came onto the tour and stole all his thunder. He said as much in early press conferences. Phil was clearly irratated that this kid was getting all the attention and every question had reference to Tiger regardless of whom it was asked to. Phils attitude was "hey, what about me, I've won out here". What he didn't recognize was that Tiger was going to treel off multiple majors and win one out of every three tournies he entered. Phil was contenet with a Ford endorsement.
  4. I think if Tiger retired today most all the world would agree that he is and forever will be one of the greatest to ever play the game. He may be the most recognized person in the world. Go Tiger!
  5. ....uhhh....name me another player that even comes close to his current record? If he retired today he would be one of the greatest of all time...if not the greatest.
  6. haha....yep the two will argued about in every aspect of golf. What can we agree upon? For me it's the fact that I am lucky enough to have wittnessed both players in my lifetime.....now thats a treat. Go Tiger!!!
  7. ....great debate. But what about the greatest Masters? For me NO debate...1986...Jacks return!!!
  8. ...until someone on tour besides Tiger has the mentality of say a Roger Clemons or John Smoltz, I don't think todays tour players can do anything but play for #2. Vjay crept into the #1 spot during one of Tigers rebuilding programs. Phil will do well to battle Phil, not Tiger and not to be #1. I see no one on tour that has shown a Nolan Ryan stare or bean ball to challange for the #1 spot. I have to use baseball analogies because besides Tiger, no one on tour has this mentality.
  9. ....if Phil continues to stalk Tiger he will fail. Golf is a different game for Tiger, he does go for the kill everytime. Phil and the rest of the golfing world are still in a "survival mode" mentality. A dangerous game to be played against killers....
  10. I’m glad to see Phil get away from competing with Tiger. When Tiger first came out on the pro tour, Phil was at a press conference after a round and the questions were pertaining to Tiger and not him. He got pissed and started complaining that (paraphrasing) “hey I’m young too and I’ve won on this tour, look at me!” When I heard him it really turned me off. Phil needs to compete with Phil, I wish him the best and I hope he can exorcise his demons.
  11. because of the hallowed Bobby Jones/ Masters tradition and the importance that most golfers put on this major, I don't think age will ever be a factor in whom the club invites to partcipate. Wether or not it is a symbolic first drive or a last walk through the storied venue, the Masters for most of us is a sacred and anticipated tradition and those champions that can still honor it will always be welcomed. I hope anyway. The ghosts of golfing greatest can probably be seen roaming around amen corner long after the cameras and crowds have left. I can't wait to see golfings legends of old and the legends of today walk Agusta and allow us to enjoy it with them.
  12. I know a guy who did something....well....he took a dump in the cup!!! It was during a guys weekend golf outing.

...I like Camilo, and I hope you are right. Right now, he just seems out of control with his swing. The kids got power, but he needs to tighten it up like you said.

....I don't see Camilo winning on the PGA tour with his current swing. Much like Sergio when he first came up, Camilos swing seems to be a "out of control" flailing rip. Anyway, just my impression. I don't think his swing will ever contend in a U.S Open course.
  15. If Tiger wins the Masters do you really think he will skip the U.S Open if his wife gives birth on or near the tourney?
  16. cocky? Tiger walks the walk like no other...COCKY [Jim Mora Voice/].....I don't think so. At this point if Tiger isn't in the field it's the LPGA for me. COCKY!!! regards J. Mora former Colts Head Coach ...you remember
  17. so I guess we're still waiting for Godot. Tiger has one major fault.....the way we view golfers will never be the same. Trying to measure up to, contend, or be the next phenom has become an impossible task. Damn that Tiger, thanks for making golf a sport for Tiger then everyone else.....I can try more sarcasim, but I think you get my drift.
  18. ...my point being that the presumption that out of the 144 player field at the Sony that ALL are there to win...."not just make the cut"...that Michelle is somehow barred becuase she is honest?
  19. [QUOTE=Madriver;38089] so are you and Uncle John saying that Wie doesn't have that mindset? Is taht your ESP or is it ESPN that tells you this? I'll take Michelle and give you your 2.5 shots on any Pro Setup any day
  20. [QUOTE=NM Golf;38081]Well lets see what John Maginnes says NONE. They ALL believe they can win each and every time they tee it up. Otherwise they wouldn't be out there. Noone is cockier than a professional athlete. so are you and Uncle John saying that Wie doesn't have that mindset? Is taht your ESP or is it ESPN that tells you this? I'll take Michelle and give you your 2.5 shots on any Pro Setup any day......
  21. ...how many of the 144 male players can you say the same thing about
  22. a little perspective on the pinata that is Michele Wie. She is just 17 and has been accepted into Stanford. As a parent of a 15 year old daughter that will also be applying to Stanford, do any of you know how hard it is to get into Stanford sans any athletic scholarship? As she is a pro, she is not able to compete at the NCAA level. So maybe just maybe over her long and tenured life she actually had time to prep for her SAT's and GPA and find time to compete at an extremely competitive level (see LPGA Majors record). While I agree that it is time for her to stop the PGA thing, she is world class and deserves little of the ridicule doled out here and elsewhere. Props to Michele for continuing to address the media in a dignified and classy attitude. For anyone to be able to handle the rigors of proffesional golf and the academics required to get into Stanford is remarkable.

  24. Scott Hoch donated his entire winnings check when he won at Las Vegas to the hospital that saved his sons life. I had the good fortune to meet him at the former Kemper Open. He is a stand up guy. He may come off as prickly on TV but he is a very genuine and good guy. Bob
  25. the captain will have no effect on the US team as long as the format of play stays the same. The US will lose any and all "partner format" play. The comment Azinger made about Tiger is correct. Thats why Tiger is the best player in the world. He plays to win ...unfourtunatley ...winning on the PGA Tour, Majors, and world tour is an individual quest. Azinger is as good as anyone....he will lose as well as anyone else.
