  1. Yes, it would give you the appropriate length of club and lie. It should also let you know things like grip size, shaft flex, etc.
  2. Lob wedge. Awful golf hole at local goat ranch, from white tees plays @ 400 yards. Par 5. What a joke! And I've still never eagled it!
  3. Max tee cred only comes when you sky mark this baby. And, I promise to God, I'm not afraid to do it.
  4. My $.02: for that amount of cash, find a decent shop that will do custom fitting and go through the process. If your clubs don't fit your height/swing, you're off to a bad start. As you learn the game, you can always adjust your clubs as you go. Most shops will deduct the fitting price from your purchase price, too. Don't be afraid to get them to match prices from internet retailers, even Ebay. Make them work for your business! If you feel uncomfortable or like you are being pushed into a purchase, walk. I have had great luck with TaylorMade irons, but major (and most minor!) brands will be top quality. Find what you like that you can afford, and cave the face in! Good luck!
  5. Did you try the TP version? It's an inch shorter than the "standard" version. Not that the R9 isn't a smokin' hot little number...
  6. Two things: 1. The TM gamers will love it, the R11 will prove to be a great piece of equipment, and mankind will be bettered by it. 2. The TM haters will bash it, like always, talking about "it's cheap looking", "not a real player's club", etc. Then, when no one is looking, they'll buy it.
  7. I agree with the VAS and the OSS Slingshot. Ugly, but get the job done. Kinda like the Titleist AP series irons. C'mon, they're ugly!
  8. Rich Beem. Was horrible before and after. Even bad in Tiger Woods PGA Tour game. I have to disagree with some of the comments about Cabrera and Harrington. Cabrera simply can't putt. His ballstriking is sick. Harrington has an incredible short game. These guys are still going to be around for a while. Lucas Glover, I have concerns about. Seems like he took a big step back this year...
  9. Friend of mine dropped a deuce next to a tree, covered the "pile" with a towel and we left. The tree is in play. I am sorry that this ever happened. This was a new towel, and I am sure that someone picked it up...
  10. TaylorMade R9 irons, 4-PW, with Dynamic Gold X100 shafts from DiscountDansGolf.com.
  11. They are very different from your forged irons. I haven't hit the Callaways, but I just got my set of R9's. So far I have to say they are very forgiving and long, what you'd expect from TM. Have a very good feel, but probably NOT quite the same as forged! While there is no mistaking that these are "game improvement" clubs, they are not huge, goofy shovels either. I got mine with DG X100's, and while I am still getting used to them, I am VERY pleased so far. Nice driver ya got there, bro...
  12. Normally, the R9 comes with the KBS 90 shaft. I got them with Dynamic Gold X100, 2* upright and 1/2" long. Built to my specs at the TaylorMade factory. No upcharge. Other shafts available upon request, but I know some will cost a little extra.
  13. Placed an order for a custom set of TaylorMade R9 irons with DiscountDansGolf.com on Monday, August 30th. GREAT pricing, I just couldn't resist. Received them TODAY. I have no idea how I got a custom set so quickly, but I was stoked. I had just sent them an e-mail inquiring about the tracking number, and fell over the box the FedEx guy left by the front door on my way to the course! The folks at Dan's are very friendly, patient, and helpful. I highly recommend checking them out before your next purchase. Their website has very few, if any, prices listed, however, they are prompt to answer e-mails, and are readily available by phone. Props to DiscountDansGolf.com!!!
  14. For $60 you have to pull the trigger. Buddy of mine bought a set of the '87 models in fantastic shape for $20(!!!) from a flea market. Even if you don't play regularly with them, it's still fun to have a set like this and show up with 'em in the bag every now and then!
  15. Go hit everything you can! Buying a set of irons when you are new to the game is fun. Take some time, you can find some really good deals on used clubs. Make sure they fit you. And have fun!
  16. Not me, but a friend of mine lived in Myrtle Beach and worked at a golf course. Talked about playing with this guy who had just started on tour. Guy could absolutely kill it. Yeah...Dustin Johnson. Meanwhile, I play golf with the meat department guy from Kroger.
  17. I've been a member of a country club, and a season pass holder at a state park course. Unless you know folks that you can regularly golf with, you MUST consider what the other members at each facility are like. I hated the country club. It was part of an upper class neighborhood, which I did NOT live in. However, I paid dues just like everyone else, more than the homeowners did. I was generally treated poorly by everyone from fellow golfers to staff. It got so bad I quit going. At the state park/public course, it's all about golf. I've made a lot of friends or friendly acquaintances there. Consider who you'll be paying to play with...
  18. Perhaps with the ladies stroking the newest Scotty Cameron offering? While watching the Big Break?
  19. Statistics can be deceptive. How many times did he hit driver? Bottom line, regardless of fairways hit, GIR, putts, etc.: how is he finishing? While we do hold him to a ridiculously high standard, it is one he set. I actually think he will get beat up a little if he makes the squad. And I'll love it.
  20. I wonder if there are "trophy husbands" on the LPGA!?! Wow, I must admit that's a nutty little idea... Bob: "Hey, let's wear some super tight Lee jeans and head on down to the Kraft Nabisco!" Earl: "Sounds great. Maybe we can meet one of those real curvy ladies, take us out for a drink and some White Castle!"
  21. Look, here's the thing about TaylorMade clubs...not only will they make you a better golfer, you will often find yourself surrounded by beautiful women. You will become smarter and more desirable, more successful. After I made my latest purchase, a TP Monte Carlo by Kia Ma putter, I was abducted by aliens just so they could look at the headcover. Their spacecraft was shaped like a TM Super Deep driver! Seriously, TaylorMade clubs are pretty good...
  22. Throw AK in there. Enthusiasm is contagious. Holmes, I'm a fan so I think he'd be great, and he's played well this year, just no wins. Glover, nah, not played very well this year. Zach Johnson is money. Tiger, if he improves a little more and actually cares...still wouldn't be as entertaining as Fowler.
  23. Money, and a personalized golf bag. And white pants.
  24. I enjoy playing with strangers. I've been a member at 2 different courses in my hometown, and have had varied experiences...the state park public course is all about the golf, and the folks I've met there are great. The private club was full of self-important, arrogant a$$holes. I truly enjoyed embarrassing them on "their" course. I refuse to even play a scramble at that place. I also play in a Tuesday night scramble at the local "goat ranch". The course is pretty bad, but I have a blast because it's a random draw, and the people just want to have fun and play good golf.
