Let's be honest. Most PGA Tour golfers are, well, ugly. For every Camilo Villegas there are 4 Tim Herrons. And yet, almost to a man, they have gorgeous wives. While I am sure love enters the equation, success is a strong aphrodesiac. And 100 dollar bills. And television exposure. And..well, you get it.

Been using the Kia Ma Monte Carlo for a couple weeks. Good feel. Black head looks really cool, and isn't confidence the most important piece in putting?

A question for the equipment junkies.
jldavis73 replied to the steam train's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I believe shortening the club at the "tip end" will alter flex. Trimming at the "butt end" shouldn't effect flex, but either way will change swingweight. Definitely agree with Bryan SD2, find someone who knows what they're doing!!! -
I get complimented because I give compliments. I'm a true southern gentleman. And I enjoy lying to other golfers about their hideous swings.

My advice, for what it's worth: get fitted for your irons. Whether you go with the Burners or the R9's, proper fitting irons will make a difference for you. Oh, and you can't go wrong with TaylorMade!

Project X 6.0 Driver Shaft (blue)

Troll the "For Sale" section of this web site and others (Golfwrx.com moves a ton of stuff daily). Check Ebay. You'll eventually find what you're looking for! Good luck! -
I've owned the SQ 5900 and Dymo2, as well as other "traditionally shaped" drivers. My advice is to try them all. Don't make a judgement based just on aesthetics. You can learn to love ugly...and loud. Hey, I just described some ex-girlfriends too!

Engineering Voodoo - Taylormade Superfast TP

I've had mine for a couple months now. I love it. Love...it. It does take some getting used to because it's so light. I tend to choke the grip a little, so I had to loosen up to get a good feel for the club head. Yeah, it's a long, but I think it has great feel. You can really sense the golf ball compress when you catch one. Very forgiving as well. I'm using the stock Matrix HD6 shaft too. One last thing, the TP version has an open face, so that may cause problems if your normal ball flight is already left to right. -
A stiffer shaft, as long as it's not TOO stiff, will improve dispersion. Since I switched to x-stiff, my misses are tighter. Looking at your numbers, maybe try a "low spin" shaft model with a low kickpoint (which will help with the launch angle). I definitely would try a couple different models before making a purchase. A shaft that fits your swing will make a huge difference! I play a Matrix HD6 which is a mid-launch, low spin shaft, and I would recommend Matrix shafts for your trial. Great feel. Good luck!

+1 A 460cc, higher lofted (10.5 to 12*) driver would be a great choice to learn with. To improve consistency, you could have the shaft trimmed. I had a buddy that carries a shortened Cleveland HiBore Monster 10.5*, and he CAN'T miss a fairway. Hits it about 240. The shaft is the length of my 6 iron. If you do something that dramatic, try adding a little lead tape to the head, or you won't be able to feel it.

Yes, my friend, quite real. It was a flier lie, he only needed to carry it about 185-190 to catch a little slope. Remember, the "v" type grooves they are playing with now brought the flier back into play.
-
Watching highlights of Holmes' round of 60 today, he hit 9 iron from 224 (flier lie) to 10 feet. Faldo climaxed while talking about it. Strange, and yet entertaining.

Golf sandals are pretty sweet. I wear mine with dark socks... They are hideous. Wearing golf sandals says a lot of bad things about the wearer, like "World of Warcraft rocks" and "my mom helps me out with the rent/mortgage/car payment".

VERY familiar with Cookeville. Really nice town! Please, no mention of the Orange on this board!

Burner Superfast TP! -
LOVE it. The newly renovated/constructed state park courses are great too.

I have NOT tried any of the new stuff, but the Speedline FAST 10 driver and fairways always gets good reviews, from magazines and websites like this one. And if Jamie Sadlowski plays Adams, how can you go wrong?

TM Burner Superfast...shaft recommendations
jldavis73 replied to toddmlazarchick's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The XCon 4.8 is nice. The TP version comes with a Matrix HD6. Keep in mind the effect of kickpoint. If you're hitting the TM too low, try a shaft with a lower kickpoint; too high, a shaft with a higher kickpoint should work. The XCon is a high launch/low spin shaft, the HD6 mid launch/low spin. There are fitting tools available online at shaftfit.com, and, if you go through the "custom fitting" options at golfsmith.com you'll get a big list of shafts to consider. Good luck and have fun! -
Valhalla is fantastic! Olde Stone ran some good specials for lodging and golf last year. Stay in a cottage on property, cook your own breakfast, you could do it affordably. Not sure if they are doing it again, but I hope so. Check their website!

TM Burner Superfast...shaft recommendations
jldavis73 replied to toddmlazarchick's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If money is no object, go for a new Graphite Design AD YSQ+ or a Matrix TPHD7. Then you will have created a demon club, capable of challenging the Hammer X. BTW, just got the TP version myself. The all black clubhead is SICK... -
HIGH MOI Driver actual result
jldavis73 replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I am by no means an expert, but I'll weigh in... MOI is just a measurement of the club's resistance to twisting. If you've ever hit a driver out towards the toe, you can feel this twist. In theory, a club with a higher MOI will twist LESS on off-center contact and thus be more forgiving. Depending on how old the "older" 9.5* driver is, upgrading to a newer driver with a higher MOI should help with accuracy. Just make sure you get the right shaft. In my experience, this makes a bigger difference than the clubhead. I have played the SQ5900 and the DYMO2 from Nike, and found both to be long and very forgiving. You can pick up the DYMO drivers new at a very attractive price now. -
Couple of buddies and me hit the drivers and irons at a demo day. Woods were nice, just too closed at set up. Irons were SICK. At least 1 club longer than my TM's. We tried to hit them bad and couldn't miss them...and I'm not that good. Really cool to see so many KY folks on here. BTW, anyone played Olde Stone? Heard it's the premiere track in the state now...

Check out www.tourspecgolf.com . Some of the sickest clubs in Japan, not available in U.S.

I have played all varieties since TM started producing balls again. For me, the Penta is the best. The trajectory and spin around the green are superior to anything else I've tried. The red is a close 2nd. But try 'em all. That's part of the fun, isn't it?

Cool, I graduated from EKU. Loved playing Gibson Bay and The Bull. Still do!
