Mine would have to be ballstriking right now. I've been working at it and I'm getting a lot more consistent. The fact it's still not great says more about my short game than it should~

I generally hold my breath and exhale at contact. It's not something I've been taught, just something I grew comfortable with. The only example I could cite as a comparison would be the tennis grunt on contact.. ..I don't grunt, promise~

I was shooting low 90's, went for lessons with the intention of improving, got told I was just lucking out basically, so I got considerably worse. Was shooting >100 for a couple rounds. Back in the 90's now, and I already know that when I get back into it I'll be shooting way better. Stick it out~

I concur with the point of people making around 5 or 6 'perfect' shots per game. This spans the skill levels. Tiger's 6 perfect shots will be unreachable my most, whereas his bad shots will constitute someone of my calibre's perfect shots. To think that more than even 10% of your shots are perfect is ludicrous~

Hahaha. I definately prefer links courses whenever I get the opportunity to play them. It isn't often, but I think it makes it feel like a treat moreso than it normally would, which adds to the fun.

If I'm playing a practice round, or on my own, and the course is clear-ish, I'll hit a load of mulligans but always play my first. I'm at the stage where I'm trying to get a feel of how different things pan out, so to try to do this with just playing my first around 18 would take a while. I always end up with the score I shot with my original ball, counting penalties and whatever, but I'll almost always have more than one ball on the go.

Blade 56*, 80-85 yards for a full shot.

Hahaha, oh wow. I remember having ceiling fans when I lived in Florida, and I can only imagine. Those things spin fast as hell.

As with the similar poll recently on "what is your preferred shot shape?" my answer comes down to the fact I'm not yet really sure how to work the ball. So I just go for the green and cross my fingers~

Yeah, it generally is too good to be true. By doing this, even eliminating one a day or longer, you'll get an idea of what you don't want. Putters are personal, it could take a couple years before you find "the one". ps good luck, heh~

Hit (x) putts with each, eliminate one. Repeat.

Convinced my problem is mental: Need help!!!!
wubskis replied to brianc's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
This has helped me out leaps and bounds. I would get so hung up on a bad shot that my next couple would be dominated by me being angry instead of re-focusing on the task at hand. I'd say I still add a couple strokes per round by just rage-hitting the ball instead of stopping to breathe and think. -
Man, you guys have it soft. Approach the coast in this country and you're greeted with grey skies and wind, with a probable dash of rain. I was playing a links course up in Scotland the other week (no, not that one) and on antiparallel holes I was hitting 260 with my 4 hybrid on one, then 140 on the other. I reached a 480y par 5 in two swings of the same 4h with my buddy the wind behind me! If you've never played under such conditions, of course you're not going to be able to just turn up and say "oh I remember trying this shot out, let's do this". I think you scored perfectly well after that start!

Bad golfers cause slow play like flies cause garbage.
wubskis replied to denver_nuggs_15's topic in Golf Talk
Sure there are, I'm not denying there are people who have hit a 400 yard drive that one time they had wind behind them on a downhill rock hard fairway etc etc etc, but the point I was getting at was "captain average" that drives 200-250 yards who waits until the green is clear on a 400 yard par 4. -

I think there's a sway in favour of high handicappers on the forum and that it's a minority who try to link high handicappers to slow play. The things that really get to me are people taking a billion practice swings then duffing a shot, discussing/marking scores on the green, and people who wait until people are 400 yards away from the tee box before teeing off. If everyone stopped doing the above, and I mean everyone, because I was behind a group of people who amongst them can't have had a handicap in double digits and they would stand around on the greens and talk banter before moving on. I encountered their foursome on a teebox and after they didn't offer for us to play through (twosome) I made a comment and explicitly asked to play through. They looked a mixture of puzzled and a little outraged, but agreed. I took my tee shot, and as is common in front of a group of people I messed it up somewhat but it was still in play in semi-rough at least 150y down the fairway. Not a duff, but not exactly my finest hour. One of them laughed. We shook the group by the end of the hole, possibly because they were still joking around about that guy who didn't hit the fairway. Just goes to show that slow players aren't necessarily always the worst ones. Also I decided to go off on a tangent apparently~ -
Being 21, most of the people my age around me regard golf as a waste of time. Though, I consider most of their lives a waste of time, so I guess we're even.

I'm quite enamoured with my HiPPO HWT 56* right now, forged club and super cheap. My only qualm is with the grip, but that can be replaced for tuppence.

Yeah, my hunch was that the DWS (and further on, the TWS) was more cosmetic and psychological than an overhaul of club technology. I think most importantly for me is trying to replicate the action of my current DWS baffler, but in reality I'm not exactly good enough yet to warrant the requirement of such precision buying I think I'll take the plunge. I can't imagine it feeling like a different club to such an extent I feel different swinging it~ Thanks for the reply!

Straight, because in all honesty, I'm not yet sure how to successfully draw or fade the ball.

Hey, welcome! I'm back home near(ish) Leeds again, but I attended Warwick University for my BSc. Really nice area down there! I never got a chance to play golf there, mostly because when ferrying your livelihood to and from a university you tend not to have room for your set of clubs Well, enjoy your stay, and if you're anything like I was at work you'll be chain-refreshing pages because it beats doing whatever's in the inbox~

I'm actually from Ripon, so I'm half surprised to see someone on what I assume is an American forum from around my way, and half caught out on saying 'North East' England. The greens of the courses I've played locally range from absolutely atrocious to gloriously kept, but I can't help but agree. I've never myself played a shot that's legitimately rolled back, only some assisted by gravity and topology of the green I'm shooting to. From these posts I'm already quite intrigued, so I'll have another look round but I think I'll take the plunge. For what is essentially £40 including P&P;, it seems decent enough for at least a test run. At any rate, I currently have a void between my 43* PW and a 56* SW that needs to be filled post haste, so I think this'll fit the bill for now!

Does anyone play these? I'm looking for a 50*, and keeping with my "still undecided but can't afford Vokey's" theme, I'm getting another different wedge to add to the setup. There's a load of press on the site and other review sites about being spin machines and playing "like a more expensive club", but everyone knows how this basically means that they have a good PR department. So, any feedback on whether this walks the walk? The claims of a spin milled face and "the #1 club for spin" being thrown around, this seems like a steal for £35 + P&P.;

So, I'm ecstatic with my Baffler DWS 4h. I got it a couple months ago, tops, and it's already my favourite club in the bag. The action is perfect, feedback is great, and my confidence with it is astronomical. So I decided to get another one. The dilemma I'm in is that I bought my original 4h used, because frankly I don't have the money to pop £100 on a shiny club when I can get a slightly less shiny one for £60 that does the same thing. The big issue is that the only one I can find in the spec I want is the old (old or different? I'm not really sure) model without the DWS system. My question is, would this have a massive influence on the club and thus my swing? The shaft is exactly the same, but without the DWS in the clubhead would it change too much? Logic says it really shouldn't, and I'm being a dumbass, but I thought I'd confirm it before I took the plunge. Thanks in advance for any help!

All the King's Men. I love you Sean Penn, your speeches make me quiver. Dr Strangelove. Really one of the funniest movies ever. Pretty much anything about vietnam, really, with the exception of We Were Soldiers. I hated that movie
