funny little story about playing the ball as it lies...last week i take a buddy of mine to my club for his 50th, he plays 3 or 4 rounds a year max but he is actually not terrible, he really should play more. so we are on the T with 2 other regulars of mine and my buddy wants to play me heads up in addition to the team, we haggle a bit since he doesn't have an index number and agree to a shot per hole - but not the par 3's. fair enough lets play. first t box he is left in thick rough, i am down the middle - we get to his ball about 145 out, the lie is poor, there is a tree just in front of him that kind of overhangs, he has to get over the stream in front. it is not good obviously a punch out. He looks at me and says, "you play the ball down right" i say "yes", he says "I don't" picks his ball up moves it 2 steps to the right, drops it down, rolls it over to make it pretty and says "what is the yardage again? " LOL it was all i could not bust up laughing! we still had a great round with one of us following the rules!!

I am calling you out as a non-golfer IF.........................
Lefty-Golfer replied to BuckeyeNut's topic in Golf Talk
Winner!! -
Walked 27 yesterday, granted it was with a caddie but....I am freakin tired!!! I have to get in way better shape to even think about discussing A CARRY!! I really need to get out of the office more!!
-
walking is never as fast as riding...2 guys in my regular group walk every week, they are fast enough, never hold up the course. me and my partner are forever waiting for them. Think about it you have a 200 to 300 yard walk on 14 to 16 of the holes on a normal course - there is no way to argue that you can do this as fast as riding. It just isn't possible.

Is This Protocol (Paying a Pro's Fee in a Weekly Game)???????
Lefty-Golfer replied to Golfer6760's topic in Golf Talk
My thought is - 20 bucks - just pay it and enjoy the round...you stated "he works for you" fine then take care of your employee and hook him up. Think about it as picking up the tab for lunch!! I can only say that at my club the pro wouldn't have to pay, the members wouldn't blink about footing the bill and i just wasted 3 minutes of my life responding here!! LOL have a nice day. -
Yes I agree and well said!! WOW

Is the Tiger Era Over? Brandel Chamblee Thinks So
Lefty-Golfer replied to billchao's topic in Tour Talk
Chamblee is a dope who likes to hear himself talk - occasionally he will be right - this is one of those times IMO. Tiger will still showup and from time to time look like the GTiger of old but as far as an era goes...reference the end of Arnie and the start of Jack - the era has moved on, we are pasted the overlap stage - again IMO. -
A good buddy of mine lives on Fisher Island, he has some great storys of Miami Beach during his ventures off the island. apparently some crazy shit happens there at night.

Philadelphia Cricket Club reconstruction
Lefty-Golfer replied to phan52's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I got to play it two weeks ago and I enjoyed it greatly as well. i liked the new bunkering and the new routing. 4,5,6 are an absolute brutal stretch of holes, if you get past them with in a few strokes of par you could have a nice number because the course certainly eases up. all in all loved but the no fringe was odd...i guess you get used to it but the first hole i kind of had to look twice. As always the staff there is top notch so we had a great day! -
Private courses are for.........
Lefty-Golfer replied to Lost-Ball's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
You are typical member...you will run into a few snobs but they are not the rule. for the most part it will be the same type of people you already play with - just with a better golf course, better structure and quicker rounds that can be set up and changed easy - of course it costs more money as well! At my club if you take 4 hours to play a round you will probably have a group or 2 waiting. -
Myrtle Beach Golf Course Recommendation
Lefty-Golfer replied to Kappy Shack's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I didn't know they were still open, a year or two ago i heard they were in trouble. I will say we ate there several times and thought it was great, it is not cheap but you got a quality steak and they had a solid list wines...and the martinis are always good!! -
Have been on one golf trip to Vegas and played it - I wouldn't have guessed it was that hard to get on. Course was fine but nothing you will remember for long - condition was good as you would expect at a CC - staff was attentive and polite - lunch was standard club type food - in my opinion it is a good starter course for a trip. it is close to the airport and the hotels, nothing to get crazy about but will treat you well and provide a solid quality product.

Private courses are for.........
Lefty-Golfer replied to Lost-Ball's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
it is obviously pricey - everytime I figure my price per round I just delete and pretend I don't know - but if you can swing it and you are a serious golfer there is not a better present you can give to yourself!! I have been a member of my club for 8 years and not one timie have i regretted it!! At one point in my life I thought i would get bored of the same course as that has been mentioned in this thread but I have not found that. Like an old guy at my club told me one day, being a member is like having a relationship. You can always take a trip and play the field but it is great to come home to the old girl where everything is comfortable and she is always glad to see you...LOL this from an 80 year old!!! -
2014 U.S. Opens (Plural!) at Pinehurst #2 Discussion Thread
Lefty-Golfer replied to mvmac's topic in Tour Talk
T to green it is honestly not a tough course - it is all about the greens. I don't think the native areas are going to be a huge factor and unless they draw a terrible they are not a real hard shot for these guys. i am excited to for the open - I loved #2 before the makeover and after it is even better - i would not be shocked to see -7 or 8 as a winner and I think it will be an exciting Open. -
Played it, it is nice but i didn't love it. I thought the TPC course was better. Rio Seeca was much much better then either of the others. Just had a conversation with a few buddies for next year. We are going to a 5 or 6 day trip to Casa De Compo for golf that trip will average 1.5 rounds per day - then we are going to do an opening weekend of the NCAA hoops tournament - Wed evening arrival, sunday redeye home. that will be the ultimate degeneration trip for poker, sports books, craps and associated binge drinking that we should attempt to do - then back at pinehurst for the 10th year of (used to go to MB) 8 rounds in 4 days trip that is always my favorite of the year...hopefully that will be enough to get me past winter blues without wanting to kill sombody here in the cold and snow!
-
LOL took redeye home landed at 6 am and went to bed till 3, went to bed that night at 9 and slept 5 the next morning...yep tank was 100% empty upon return.

my first post started with it depends what you want to spend...I didn't book Vegas trip so I don't know about Shadow Creek. We did stay at Ceasars for 2 reasons Cascata was couple hundred lower staying there (I assume that means you don't have to) plus it is right next to B and that was the poker room we wanted to play in, so it worked very well. You are correct on what you want to do...last time I was in Vegas my Freshman son was not potty trained... in that same time frames i have played some where around 1k rounds of golf. Based on that math and how much I enjoy poker and gambling it seemed ok!! Plus like i mentioned earlier we had the Pinehurst trip booked for 6 weeks after we returned so it isn't like we weren't getting to go on a really golf trip!
-
I have been told that...again it is really about level of degeneration and what you want to do with time in vegas. to be honest there is a better chance of getting me to go on a trip to Mequite for a couple day and play Wolf daily paired with another course...got back from vegas "golf trip" 3 weeks ago. daily routine below. Up at about 7, coffee and craps until 930 maybe blackjack, golf and transportation to and from 10 to 530 or so, clean up, dinner , craps, blackjack, drinking till sleep and or poker at Bellagio from from roughly 8 to 4AM or even later depending on the game or table....repeat but wake up about an hour later each day...IE day 2 wake up at 8 day 3 wake up 9 day 4 running for the car at 10!!!!! just don't have time for the extra travel!! on the other side leave in 19 days for Pinehurst - 4 days, 8 rounds, T off at 745 and 145 every day! Vegas does does weird shit to me and seems many other people as well.
-
this is classic - get lessons so when you improve you can save for fitting...but i am 82 and have been golfing 55 years...and i am away skiing for the winter.... LMAO sir you do whatever you damn well please - niether one is going to have much an impact. i certainly hope i am as fortunate as you to be golfing and sking at 82!!!
-
maybe poor choice of words, i find Vegas to be such a crazy busy trip that it is hard to do it all...LOL i always said i would never take a golf trip there - but i have. The difference is when we go to Pinehurst, or Myrtle or Florida we tend to play 36 a day or until to dark to finish in the winter if we cant fit in 36. In Vegas...well not so much. it is hard for me to fit in 18 holes everyday. half the time people don't go to bed before 3am (or later for some of us) so it is tough to get up before 10!!! Based on that - IMO it is only worth playing the very top of the food chain and preferably ones that are very close as well. Cascada, Rio, Shadow Creek, Mirage...not many others. just due to the town and the other things not the golf.

Were we wrong?? Kid Got First Birdie and We Yelled
Lefty-Golfer replied to RightEdge's topic in Rules of Golf
I dopn't find the boy and his family rude at all... I find the guy that yelled to be a HUGE D-bag and I personally would have been happy to tell STFU...LOL of course quietly not in front of my boy!! Seriously a spontanious cheer on the golf course for a bird, an eagle an ace a whatever is not rude or out of line. I love golf but things like this are part of the reason so many people are not interested in the game. lighten up boys and enjoy the game. and for the record, i play for money vitually every round i play and occasionally for a decent amount...that should change nothing about how you treat others or a child celebrating a legit cause!!! -
Not an expert and don't know what you want to spend but - Cascata was one of the great rounds of golf I have had, any where. Rio Secco is another top notch place Wolf Creek is great but seems like it is in another state wouldn't waste time playing many others.

Myrtle Beach Golf Course Recommendation
Lefty-Golfer replied to Kappy Shack's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
don't know any of the above. we had a very good meal at the ocean course when we played it, showered up first and had a great night. that is the best i got for you in that area. -
We have 269 golf members at my club (i just got the news letter) our club champ 5 of the last years goes from 0 - +2.5 - he is obviously very good....he can't compete towin local amature events in our area. there are just to many guys walking around with +3,4,5 and so forth. of the 296 there are 3 or 4 guys at 1 or 0 a handful or two more 2,3,4 and then about 5 or 6 the flood starts.
