  1. Yeah, I see what you mean. BTW, another Kenny Perry thing I do is keep the right foot down pretty long through impact. Not intentional, must be a fat-guy thing . Thanks for taking the time to find and upload that video.
  2. Thank you for the reply uttexas. Everything you mentioned makes sense. A couple of the better players at my club have mentioned that my hip turn looks restricted (when I asked for their advice). The ball-position and lack of extension in the follow-through I can definitely see now that you pointed it out (my arms look like they are collapsing against my body). Out of curiosity, is the lack of extension why my finish looks so funny? It almost looks like I'm posing the finish (as an afterthought). I will work on these things and post some new video (hopefully better quality) soon. Thanks again.
  3. This is my first time videoing and uploading swings, so I will try to get better camera angles in the future. I started golfing 4 years ago, and currently play off a 10 handicap. I have been hooking the driver a bit lately, and my iron play is inconsistent (contact and direction issues). Any suggestions appreciated. PW FO 7i DTL (thin) Driver FO Driver DTL
  4. OK, back to the topic. Please explain the correct grip and takeaway Chillmoon91.
  5. I have a Titleist 983K driver. Cost $25 plus $9 shipping from ebay. Great club.
  6. Thanks for the update.
  7. Kilbyman, have you ever tried swinging a weighted club? I know it doesn't help with swing speed, but I think it helps with sequence and keeps you from strong-arming the swing. There is also a training aid called The Orange Whip (I haven't tried it, but many recommend it) which is supposed to help with pivot and sequence.
  8. Hopefully both. By using your body to move the club, instead of just your arms, you can generate more speed and consistency. Just my .02 as a fellow amateur... I'm sure others will have suggestions for you.
  9. JJLinn, just my opinion, but it looks like you could benefit from working on your takeaway to get a nice backswing going. Right now you are lifting the club up very steeply with your arms, instead of turning the hips and shoulders to make your backswing. This video might help.
  10. This might be terrible advice according to some people...but I really feel like I am releasing the club early (i.e. flipping) on sand shots, and have had excellent results all season. This is the only shot I try to get wristy or flippy with, but I can't believe how solid I've been out of bunkers lately. I just pick out a pebble 2 inches behind the ball and flip away. I do keep my weight forward, but I can get out of bunkers with an open or square clubface, depending on the type of shot I want to play.
  11. Why the rigid set-up? You look like you're striving for an Adam Scott type posture. You are doing S&T; right? I think they reccomend a pretty relaxed set-up with the back rounded.
  12. I think video is important. People always told me I was overswinging (past parallel) but I just didn't buy it until I saw myself on video. I was attempting to make half swings and I looked like a hack version of John Daly!
  13. Sounds like a thorough lesson from a knowledgeable instructor. Impressive that he looked at all aspects of your game, including fitness and equipment. Hope it translates into better scores and more enjoyment on the course!
  14. Great story. I've seen him on the Golf Channel before. I don't see why this guy's accomplishments need to be used to berate people for whining about their game...unless I'm just overreacting to a joke.
  15. Amazing how rarely the actual ballflight gets discussed in these threads. I guess we just want pretty looking swings?
  16. Amazing, no one has ever pointed out before how corny that S&T; commercial is. Great insight. Other breaking news, Phil Mickelson's Secrets to the Short Game commercial is pretty lame.
  17. You are, but no rules against it on this forum. Anyway, I think the range is useful if you have something specific to work on. I don't like beating balls without a purpose, and I will never hit off mats unless it is the dead of winter and I have no other choice.
  18. Nice work! How were you hitting the ball? I'm far from an expert, but this looks like an upgrade over the other swing you posted.
  19. Shot my personal best for 9-holes at Swansea Country Club tonight from blue tees (70.70/125). Bogey on #4 and birdie on #8, for an even par 36 on the front-9.
  20. Thought I would update since I have reached most of my 2010 goals. First and foremost, my attitude/composure on the course has improved dramatically. I am alot more accepting of the ups-and-downs of golf, and I don't let one bad shot or hole ruin my round. I am more realistic about my abilities, and thus not at all shocked when I shoot 38 in my league one week, and then 45 the next week. Last year I could turn into a real grump when I was playing bad, but this year I have learned to show some class even when my opponent is drubbing me in match play. The club championship isn't until later this summer, but I have developed a better pre-shot routine, and dropped to single-digit handicap. My new 2010 goals: 1. Improve iron play. HUGE weakness in my game. I think I could regularly break 80 if I made some reasonable improvements from 100-180 yds. 2. Shoot some rounds in the 70s at my home course (70.70/125). Thus far I have only broken 80 at a couple easier courses.
  21. I think OP makes a good point. Personally, I am getting tired of seeing the same questions pop up over and over every two weeks. Then again, if these people are too lazy to use the search engine, they will probably ignore the stickies too.
  22. I have had alot of success using a hitting procedure on pitch shots. I just feel my right arm take the club back (pulling left arm straight) then right elbow thrust through impact (right wrist bent, left wrist flat). Don't know if this is really hitting the way TGM describes, but it's my basic understanding of it and it works pretty well. I have experimented with using a similar feel on full swings, but I don't understand all the hitting components well enough, and have not been as successful.
  23. So are we to assume that you already have a solid grasp of basic pitch/chip fundamentals? Otherwise, it doesn't make sense (IMO) to be worrying about spinning the ball. Two people offered advice on fundamentals including links to relevant information. Was that helpful or stuff you already can do?
  24. Cue the video to 1:00 and watch the chip shot he hits. Can you do this? Can you hit chip shots and pitch shots keeping the left wrist flat, where the club does not over-take the hands? For me this is key to consistency with chip/pitch shots.
  25. I noticed your right thumb and index finger come off the club completely during your takeaway. Hogan suggests this as a practice exercise in his book, but I'm not sure you want to do this in your swing...regripping the club might lead to some problems. (Disclaimer: wtf do I know.)
