Shaft mechanics....need help!
sherwoodnatl replied to Crey23's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Along the same lines...i have a driver SS around 95 Stiff or Reg? -
I adopted a new driver swing recently. There is much less upper body movement on the backswing and it has prooved much more consistent. I went from hitting 6-8 fairways to 10-11 per round which is fantastic. However, i am concerned about distance. I went from 260ish to around 240...to me that is huge. I recently also swich from a reg shaft to a stiff flex shaft. I had a SS of around 100 but i would guess i lost 2-5 mph with the less body movement. (Maybe im not losing any speed at all, i just feel as if i am.) So my question is...could this 20 yard loss be because i was playing in 40-45 degree weather? Could it be because my swing has changed to make less body movement on the backswing causing less leverage? Or could it be because my swing speed isnt ready for a stiff flex? If the shaft is TOO stiff, will it cost me distance? Help please!

Been eager to test these balls since i heard about there release. I tested these at a course this time...no launch monitors. Anyone who saw the last review knows that i was fairly critical of the Tour i and Tour ix. I got a couple of them to test too b/cuz i got them a box at 20 bucks apiece. My swing specs SS- 100+ DD- 265 6 iron - 165 PW- 120+ So the testing goes: Look- Liked the look of this one better. Liked the red numbers on the i(s) and also liked that they took the "Golf" off of the ball so it just says Callaway. Distance/Tee shots- The Tour i was not very good for me on distance, i probably lost 25 yards. Unfortunately, for me, the i(s) was close to the same. Better, but still, I want a ball that wont hurt me on driving distance. Overall 4/10 here. The Tour ix was very good off distance and the i(z) performed similarily. Liked the fell of the ix better tho. 9/10 Feel- i(s) is a very soft ball. Close to V1 and softer than the TM Black. My favorite part of this ball. 9/10 i(z) is good of the driver and good off the irons. Short of the i(s) though. 8.5/10 Greenside- i(s) shined here. Superb spin if thats your sort of thing. it probably got a 9 on spin...but since im not a fan of huge spin, i give it a 7.5. The i(z) is my sort of ball. Id take the 5 yards on drives for the 5 feet extra release i get on long approached. probably a 8/10. But for me, it was perfect- 9.5/10 Putting- both pretty good here. good feel and roll. 8.5/10 for both Overall- I think the i(z) is much better. i give it a solid 8.5 out of 10. The i(s) however, just does work well with my swing. Not sure why. It definitley works for others, just not me i guess. A low 7/10. Anyone who read the first review knows i hated the drive distance of the Tour i and hated the greenside ability of the ix. BUT...testing the Tour ix again, i realized that it was much better than my intial thought. The spin was actually pretty good, just was i was looking for... the ix is much better than I thought (just short of Pro V1x). The Tour i was fairly the same. But i think the i(s) is definitley a better ball than the Tour i. After testing, i would definitley play the Tour ix and i(z) again.

Considering Wedge Setup Changes
sherwoodnatl replied to wolverine_man's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My setup of 46 51 58 is pretty unconventional...but hey, whatever gets ya up and down, right? PW- 120+ GW- 105 SW/LW - 75 Gap wedge is my favorite club in the bag. I also use the 58 for bunker shots. To me, the 58 is extremely versatile. if i want a lower spinning shot, i move the ball an inch back. I can also open the face for a 60*. So really, i think i got 2 wedges for the price of 1. Your though of PW 52 58 wouldnt be a bad setup...works for me -
Anybody played (or play) the ONE Tour D? How does it perform? Whats the feel like? Spin? Distance? Any comparisons to other balls?

What fairway woods to get?
sherwoodnatl replied to Addicted2Golf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The Nike DyMo is a fantastic fairway wood if you are a fairly consistent ball-striker as it isnt the most forgiving. But i LOVE the feel and workabiliy. Otherwise the Ping G15's and Cleveland Launchers DSTs look awesome. Or the Burner (You can never go wrong with an 07 burner club) -
Anybody had a set of 3 wd, 5 wd or 2 hyb, 3 hyb? I am interested in a 14th club and am curious about this combination. Also, ignore the 4 hyb in my signature as i use it like a typical 4 iron.

So today, I tried premium balls and balls around 30 bucks trying to find the ball for me. Here is my (quite lengthy( review Premium – Bridgestone B330 RX/S/Tour, Callaway Tour ix/I, Taylormade TP Red and Black, Titleist Pro-V1x, Srixon Z-Star X, and Nike ONE Tour $30 – Bridgestone E5/6/7, Callaway HX Bite, Titleist NXT Tour, Nike ONE Vapor, TaylorMade Burner TP, and Srixon Trispeed Here are the results. (I determine the spin by RPM’s and the man helping me simulated those RPM numbers on an average green and that is how I determined the spin results) Premium 1. Nike ONE Tour- absolutely loved this ball. Added It had the best feel of any ball I tested and the spin was excellent (I was told that the spin numbers suggested at max only a foot of backspin.) Overall fantastic ball 2. Srixon Z-Star X- Best distance premium ball and I loved this one too– added about 4 yards. Loved the feel here too and the spin was exactly what I was looking for. 3. B330-S- Started off on this one and I was impressed. It added 2 yards to drives. Spin was a little much but the feel was fantastic. Could have been first if the spin was less pronounced. 4. Pro-V1x – much like the Z Star X. Didn’t fly as far and I didn’t think the feel was as good. 5. B330/B330 RX- RX has a softer feel but I liked the 4 layers of the B330 which added a firm feel and distance 6. TM Black – Don’t be fooled by its position. This really was a good ball. Its like a cross between the 330-S’s feel and distance and the V1x’s spin. Good ball. 7. Cally I/IX – not my favorite. An OK ball. The Cally i killed distance and the ix killed feel. Hopefully the i(s) and i(z) fare better. Least favorite premium ball - TP Red – Didn’t like it at all. Spin numbers on this one were skyscraping compared to the others I liked. Also lost a significant amount of yardage. The feel was decent but that’s about it. Strangely, I liked the TP Black...a bit interesting $30 1. 2010 Bridgestone E5 – Ahhhhhh…..the E5. This was my absolute favorite ball. Great feel, great spin, great distance. Urethane cover on a 30 dollar ball seems uncommon but here it is. Gave me more carry distance – I usually have a mid flight- and this added a bit of distance. I could not tell you what I didn’t like about this ball, it’s really everything I look for. I played the old version of the E5 (E5+) and this to me is much more advanced (better spin and flight) Favorite ball I tested 2. Titleist NXT - This one was also extremely good. Added 3 yards to tee hits. Loved the feel, spin was good (check up spin) and distance was good. Its feels is as good as the B330-s with about 2 ft less spin, which I liked. 3. Nike ONE Vapor- Loved its distance and spin. Feel was about a 7.5. Much better than the ignite and this would be a great ball for longer and straight courses. 4. Bridgestone E6/E7 – Couldn’t decide between the two. E6 – straighter flight, less spin and great feel. E7- longer distance, ok spin and great feel. Bridgestone knows how to make their balls. 5. TP Burner- The LDP stuff works. Average feel and quality spin though. Good for long courses with soft greens. Good not great ball 6. Srixon Trispeed- Surprised by this one. Solid distance, solid feel, some release on wedge shots. Great ball for the new lower price ($15 was like $27) Least Favorite - HX Bite – the only one I didn’t like. Felt hard as a rock and spin numbers weren’t as high as I would’ve guessed. Distance was there so I wondered if I was playing an HX Hot at first. Overall favorites (7 balls that I would play any round with) 1. 2010 Bridgestone E5 – Loved everything about it, including price. Every bit as good as a premium ball for 20 bucks less. To me the improvements are huge – some may not notice any difference between e5+ and e5, but I noticed an improvement in feel, distance, and green control. An extraordinary find. 2. ONE Tour- Surprised how good this one was. Probably the best feeling one out here with solid distance and spin control. 3. Z-Star X- Played this ball all years and it is still one of my favorites- distance ball will feel and check up ability. 4. NXT - actually liked it better than the V1’s. Good distance and good feel – ahead of B330-S because of my preference for less spin. 5. B330-S – Lots of spin here. Feel is a bit firm but distance stays good Others that I liked 6. V1x – Close to the Z-Star X which made me love it. 7. ONE Vapor- May not be in the top 5 but I liked it enough to add to this list. This ball was great for control – spin was good- feel is just a bit too hard. Before the testing I sure wasn’t expecting a 30 dollar ball to have tour performance. The E5+ didn’t play nearly as well for me as the new E5. Overall this was 2+ hours of ball testing fun. Plus, I found the ball that is perfect for me.

Haha sorry. Its the Vokey 200 series and on the back of the club, its says 258.12. Picture here --- http://www.golfhq.com/catalog/images...ing%202005.jpg

Haha sorry for the delay guys I decided to go with a 58 and get the 50 bent to 51 or 52 but that will happen later. This leaves me with 13 clubs. Either i dont bend the 50 and get a 54, or bend it and grab a Cleveland Launcher DST 5 Wood. Neither will happen in the near future---just wishful thinking.

Fairway wood with a small head
sherwoodnatl replied to aca247's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
There making VR woods and hybrids -
I have one of each so i will tell ya what i thiink Looks- I have the CG12 in black pearl and a Vokey in tour chrome. Overall i like how the vokey looks at address better. I still love the black finish on the CG12, but something about the vokey just looks better to me. Performance- CG12 is a better all around wedge. I use it for any shot under 100 yards. Spin- Definitley titleist here. I can spin it back when i want to, and also control the spin very easily by manuvering the club face. Feel- CG12. When i hit it perfect, its the best feeling in the world. It sort of plays like a bladed iron. The CG14 is more forgiving but i didnt like the looks. The Vokey is more forgiving and still have pretty good feel. Overall- its a close one but if i would have to pick one, i would go...CG12. (You really cant go wrong with either.)

$25 is just for the reshaft right? You would still have to buy the actual shaft, correct?

Hello. I am thinking of getting a new shaft (UST Axivcore Tour Green) on an old driver (TM R7 Quad). Any idea how much reshafting a club would cost? Thanks

Fairway wood with a small head
sherwoodnatl replied to aca247's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Give the Nike DyMo a go. Pretty small head and an open face for workability, PLUS... there dropping in price cuz the new clubs are coming out soon. -
Anyone play a 2H? AND Need to Take a Club Out.
sherwoodnatl replied to iammpspeer's topic in Golf Talk
If you really want a 2hybrid, you could get rid of the 52 and 56 and pick up a 54. That solves both problems. -
Good ball under 30$
sherwoodnatl replied to aca247's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Has anyone tried the Srixon trispeed? If so, how does it play? -
I had a similar situation over the summer...played alot and got shanks. I took a week off and played again and...POOOF. The shanks disappear. I think part of it is confidence and another part is overplaying. Playing so much made my swing out of sync and it took a week of no golf to fix...but hey. Whatever works
-
Tried em out today...along with some scotty red x's. The Ignite is staying in the bag...ive had it for quite awhile and i just can give it up. It not be as soft as some of the others but it gives the greatest roll. JMHO.

Srixon is one of the better golf companies - (Yes, up there with TM, Titleist, Cleveland.....) You just dont hear about them alot. there balls and clubs are very good. Srixon >slightly> Mizuno
