Do you have a pre-shot routine you do before EVERY shot? This is beginning to help me tremendously. I have actually worked in a simple drill as my pre-shot routine.

Bracelets...do they work?
tws1098 replied to toddmlazarchick's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I wear a Phiten bracelet. I previously broke the scaphoid bone in my left wrist and it never healed properly (even after surgery) due to poor blood circulation in that part of the wrist. I share this because (call it desperate or whatever) I was looking for anything that might help in the slightest way, even if it is just in my head. I can say that when I wear it vs. when I don't is not a big difference, but I do notice...mainly in cold weather. As many, most of which have not used them or anything similar, will attest they are not magic, but it doesn't mean they do not serve a purpose (whether it is real or as a placebo). Hope that helps. -
88 at a course I normally like, but 4 of the greens were washed out and they were aerating them during my round. Overall a good day, but I am learning just how much practice I need with the putter.

Your username is Taylormade fan, so if you have any bias you could look at the r7s or RACs. They are both good sets that can be found for a good price.

The Good: - Immediately he told me that he saw a lot of good things going on. - He said my clubs look suited to my game and fit for my swing. - He then told me I have the look of a stack and tilter, which is good I suppose since I have been reading about it and trying to put some of its components into my swing. - He wouldn't touch my down swing with a 10 foot pole (meaning he liked it haha) The Bad (To be improved) - Right hand grip (too far under my left hand) - Dip in my back swing - causing the thin and fat shots that pop up from time to time. He showed me a drill he saw Greg Norman doing, and I used it at the driving range tonight. I think this could make a big difference in my game as I search for consistency. (if anyone else has any suggestions on how to fix a back swing dip, let me know) Overall I was pretty happy with the experience. Only having about 60 rounds under my belt, I hope that the swing change will come relatively quickly.

the 58s are pretty sweet but I have not hit the 32s

Lost my 60* at the course today : /

So I called the course and no one turned the damn thing in. I can't believe it. Who keeps a no name $12 wedge? Anyway, I guess I am just going to put my 3h back in the bag for between my 3i and 2h. -
Oh, Peter Kostis... (on Dean Wilson)!
tws1098 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I strongly agree with that. But it is something that is present in many sports and big topics. I believe it stems mostly from people (like Faldo) claiming that their technique is not some new "radical" thing (which is usually not radical at all, merely a new perspective pointing out how a swing, throw, shot, etc. should look for optimal results), when in reality more things are in common then they want to admit. Also, as with other sports, people will claim to be more about "feel" so when they describe what they are feeling in a golf swing, it can be horribly misrepresented...leading to poor teaching, or commentating, by someone who really does employ a great swing. -

I hit wedges quite well, so I am wondering if I should just go with a 64*? I hit the old 60* from 90 and in, but had no problem hitting my 56* down to 75 yards (and up to ~115) so I am thinking a 64* might be good from ~65 and in which would be nice. Any thoughts on that idea? -

It's all about what works for you. -
So I must have sat my 60* wedge down in the rough while I putted and didn't see it when I went back to the cart. It kinda killed my round as I realized part way through. On a positive note it was a very cheap club and I played well with my new mizuno 56*, but I did hit the 60 well and my fiance got it for me so I feel bad from that standpoint as well. So now I have an open spot in my bag and would love to get something for the par 5s. Should a 3w go farther than my 2h (16*)? If so, how much?

Every once in a while I get into a funk where I will pull the ball left (driver and irons) and hit low shots that feel solid. It feels to me like my swing is too vertical when this is happening, but it is hard to tell. I am trying to learn how to diagnose my problems so I can fix them on the course, since doing the same thing and expecting different results just doesn't work like you would hope haha. Thoughts? O and I have been trying to keep my weight forward recently pushing my divot in front of the ball, but it is rather deep at times and is about 2-3 inches long.

I would be sure you stick to your normal routine, as it will make it feel more like any other round. Also, if you are like me, playing with better players can actually raise your game. I think it is a confidence builder to watch a player knock it down the fairway or stick it to a couple feet. It makes me feel like I can do it too. Just the other week I lost by one in a friendly match play against an 8 capper, because I was thinking about matching his shots instead of doing this or that, or the classic "just don't duff it" haha. Good luck and let us know how it goes if you get to play.

I just measured my first drives last Saturday with my Bushnell Neo. I thought to do it several times during the round. My numbers show how the hole layout can really change the numbers. 1st was a slight downhill 293, 2nd was level to 280, 3rd was uphill (little roll out) 271. My average for the day, however, would have been like 230-40 if I had to guess, due to some poorly hit shots at the beginning of the round (gripping down too far, leading to some nasty hooks). My measured swing speed was right around 100 (no warm-up) so I could see someone hitting it 300+ yards under favorable conditions and a warmed up loose swing.

Best "bang for your buck" fairway wood(s)?
tws1098 replied to tws1098's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I am thinking about the dymos. ANy thoughts on the Mizuno F50 or F60s? -
Thinking I want to ditch my 2 hybrid and possibly the 3 in favor of a 4 wood and another wedge or maybe a 3 and 5 wood. I have built my bag (including the bag) via craigslist and ebay for only $550, so I would like to keep the bargain theme going. Anyone playing oldies but goodies that you can recommend I demo?

The 58s are pretty sweet. Love mine so far. How do you like the 3w and wedges?

I just started playing the original gamer (as I said in another thread, it is only $9.75 a dozen at Dick's) and it feels nice around the green. I have not played a full round with it yet but will be tomorrow. -
should i get my driver cut down
tws1098 replied to taylormade fan's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would go to the range with it and see how it goes. Mess with your grip position, up and down on the grip. If you feel more confident with your hands down lower, then you most likely need it cut. Or you can play with your hands down on the grip and grow into it. -
what are some good balls to play

Yes, it is last years. -
What wedges should a beginner have in his bag?
tws1098 replied to No1CeltsFan's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
love my 60* but for many mid-high handicappers they say it is difficult to control. I think it is like anything else (all in your head). If you are comfortable and confident with the club it will likely perform well. -

Another budget option ($9.75 a dozen at Dick's) would be the Top Flight Gamer. I just started playing it and like it a lot. -
I have a more on topic question...If long pants "keep you cooler" due to shading your legs, moisture wicking, etc. then where is the argument for long sleeve shirts? Should they keep you cooler too if they are climacool or one of those breathable materials? I guess I do not get the whole keeping you cooler thing unless you are in an area with very low humidity. I will for the sake of comparison try playing a round in some breathable pants and report back later (if this thread hasn't been locked due to trolling haha)
