No matter what swing Tiger has had throughout the years, he has ALWAYS been a stripe show on the range. Always. Let's hope this most recent iteration can translate into pressure filled competition (it's still worth mentioning though that when he had his healthy moments with his "Foley" swing, it did translate into 8 wins in two years).

This is interesting because with Hank, he was arguably not steep enough with the shoulders. Somewhere In between the two I'm sure is what Chris is looking to accomplish with him.
-
This swing looks excellent. He really looks like he's emphasizing on getting to his left side through impact.... Can't wait to see him play on the weekend.

Congratulations to both you and the rest of the 5SK team

This is great news. I wish Chris the best in his new venture with Tiger. Exciting!!

My Experience Caddying in a Monday Qualifier
Deryck Griffith replied to mvmac's topic in Swing Thoughts
Fantastic post, thanks for taking the time to share that. It's a good reality check when you say Matt is a +4/5 and still struggling to make it. Also, this is another example for everyone to learn how important ball striking is. It's funny how you really didn't say much about "short game" because for the most part, from what I'm gathering from your experience, Matt and the rest of the players in the group were hitting greens all day long. -
Interesting points, thanks for bringing them up. Phil is VERY experienced at dealing with the media and from my observation throughout the years, an expert at knowing what to say and knowing how to manipulate his way through the media. What he had to say at the press conference was 100% calculated and Phil knew exactly what the aftermath would be. He is the only one on the US team who was sitting at the conference that could've said that, and the only one that CAN HANDLE what comes with saying such polarizing comments. Good on him for having the balls to say something different and to not conform to the typical BS rhetoric we hear most athletes say these days. When you get your rear ends whipped like they did and have been getting the last several cups (besides 08), you need to ruffle some feathers. It's a press conference and that environment is meant to say things and give answers to questions, good or bad, etc.

How to Draw the Golf Ball (or How to Stop Slicing)

You mentioned the left wrist being bowed at A6 which is the famous position most of us dream of getting to. Can you give a quick explanation on the "feeling" you also have with the right wrist on obtaining that position? Do you feel like the right wrist turns down and "cups backward" when going from A4 to A6? -
The way I see it, why would I wait until the 3rd or 4th hole before I'm "in the groove and now feeling it" when I can get those early cobwebs out of the way on the range and stand on the first tee ready to go? For me, a quick stretch (a quick stretch if time is limited is better than no stretch) and 20 or so balls on the range is all that's really necessary (even though I can hit more balls if I have more time). The purpose of those 20+ balls is to 1. get loose and 2. see how I'm hitting it today. If the swing for some reason is producing a "more than normal fade" during my quick warmup that I can't fix (and shouldn't try to since I'm playing that day) then guess what, you guessed it, it's a big fade today boys! At least I know where I'm aiming on the first tee and during my round if my body wants to hit big fade shots that day :)

It's funny how life works. Guess who had a front seat view of one of Tiger's greatest shots ever (the one from the fairway bunker on #18 at Glenn Abbey in the 2000 Canadian Open)? Yup, Grant Waite. He finished second and was paired with Tiger in the final round. Guess who was the new up and coming brainiac instructor at the Abbey during that time? Sean Foley...

Funny thing is, most of the people in the field every week who are considered "great golfers" don't even have 8 wins in their careers. The bar for Tiger is so high he himself can't even reach it anymore. The media is crazy. Tiger has 79 wins in his career and based on what we've been hearing lately, you would think he is a washed up has been.

While this is surprising news, it isn't all that surprising when you really think about it in hindsight. Tiger's body language the last several months is exactly the same body language he had towards the end of his run with Haney. As we all know, Haney walked away and did so before Tiger could fire him as he knew it was coming. So history in a way repeats itself. I don't dislike Sean and think he is a good coach but the fit, again in hindsight, didn't seem to be right towards the end. Maybe a 30 year old Tiger would be better suited for the swing Sean was implementing. On the other hand, if that ball doesn't hit the flag at the masters in 012, are we even having this debate? Who knows which direction Tiger is going to go. What is absolute fact is whoever it's going to be better have VERY THICK skin and will be under an immense amount of pressure as the next 5-6 years is Tiger's last shot at breaking Jack's record. That's it, time is running out. If you would a professional golf coach, would you take the challenge knowing the potential consequences?

Bubba Protests Long Drive Competition at PGA
Deryck Griffith replied to newtogolf's topic in Tour Talk
Yup. Bubba to me is a "fake nice guy." -
You can bet Tiger wanted to make the cut (and did). He needs tournament reps, badly. There is only the WGC Bridgestone he's going to play in before the PGA Championship. Even though he pretty much doesn't have a chance this weekend (even though anything is possible), he'll use the weekend to sharpen his tournament play conditioning in an attempt to iron out the rust. Again, reps.

Tiger just ripped a 3 wood down 18 into the wind 300 yards. I'm not sure what the game plan was today but he literally hit his driver today like an 8 handicap. Nike needs to build him a frankenwood 3 wood like Callaway did for Phil. He just can't consistently hit the driver anymore and it's in his head. Build him a strong, deep faced 3 wood that's shorter than the driver so he can play 285 yard line drives that roll out to 300-310 yards.

I didn't see this coming. Not much information or any official press release just yet aside from this link. http://www.mizunoforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t;=23840&p;=104006#p104006 They look excellent and look like they are going to replace the MP-59. The titanium insert and design looks like there's going to be a lot of perimeter weighting which obviously means more forgiveness while still looking like a players iron. Should be interesting!

Honestly, we are splitting hairs as they are all pretty incredible and it's difficult to accurately determine which one is better. That said, if I had to choose one it would be Furyk and him for these reasons: The course was playing extremely hard that day and there wasn't anyone close to him. The course was new for him and the players as Conway Farms wasn't on the PGA Tour rotation prior to that tournament. So, prior "information" on the course; green speeds, green reads, shot lines, etc had to be learned that week and wasn't drawn from past experiences. Many players mentioned that day mentioned how blown away they were that Jim shot that score and many mentioned that he must've been playing a different course. He had a bogey on the front nine (IIRC, it was an unforced error meaning 58 was possible) and shot 28 on the par 36 back nine with a birdie on 18 to seal the 59.

How to Grip a Golf Club, Commonalities of a Functional Golf Grip

Very informative, thanks for sharing. -
By any chance, was it the qualifier that was at Tumble Creek Club?

If you close your eyes really hard to visualize this, take 100 swings a day and really focus on execution, it'll "just happen." Good Luck ;)

How Would You Play It? (16th at Whispering Woods)
Deryck Griffith replied to iacas's topic in Golf Talk
You make it seem like it's a flat, clean lie, 30 yard pitch shot? Didn't you see the pictures Erik posted? As I said, I miss my driver left. So if I hit it left on this hole with the driver, I'm in the hazard if the drive is short or in the rough on the left way below the green if it carries the hazard which brings a variety of things to play. The ball can be sitting down in the rough and the green, I would guess in that spot, is at least 6-10 feet above you. It isn't a "simple 30 yard pitch" onto the green. As you say, the green is shallow so that pitch out of the rough more than likely won't hold the green anyway unless it's a PGA Tour quality flop of some sort. Not my strength so I'll take the right green side bunker shot as Option A (much easier to hold the green with the bunker shot, more spin, etc) or Option B, the 135 yard shot. But that's my game...others may choose to play it differently than me.
