""Apparently you don't. Courses have nine-hole ratings, course ratings themselves include the decimal (even if it's 70.0, but that's unlikely, and par isn't the same as the course rating), and you made no mention of those things OR the 0.96 multiplier."" Quoted from Eric on another thread. Did I read this right that a 9 hole rating/slope is different from 18 on the same course? I have been using oobgolf and when it asks for rating and slope it mentions that most 9 hole are half of the 18 hole numbers. So I was just dividing by 2 to the nearest .10. Is this wrong? I haven't seen a different rating/slope on the card except that some have one for black/blue/white/green. I think I divided both in half, but will double check and edit if not true... EDIT: it only allows to divide the rating. Slope must be greater than 70. So - As an Example Course A has 65.9/105. I entered 33.0/105. I assumed it better to round up to ensure I don't sway the math to my favor. /EDIT:

I can't do water (taste) so I buy those low calorie drink mixes like crystal light. Keeps me hydrated without the extra calories. Soda makes me cramp in the heat, and beer isn't my thing. Besides, I have enough troubles without strapping on the goggles.

Are the Nike Method just hype - or is the ball really coming off the face smoother?
-
Agreed - very nice. The FG-Tours aren't too shabby either. I missed the OP follow up post where you were hitting them better after a wuick lesson. Glad to hear that they are hitting better for you.

I am still trying to read and understand the World Rank System. Not doing well I might add. If Tiger doesn't keep playing tournaments, and maybe enters the Majors only - How long can he survive as the world #1. Has he clinched this position for weeks, months or even years to come? It seems that every week everyone has a points value and that more people lose points than gain them on a weekly basis. Did Phil even make a significant dent by winning the Masters? Not trying to start a pro or anti Tiger Woods thread here - just curious about how long before someone could potentially steal the throne.

Calvie - you might be asking the wrong guy. All those worth noting are above my skill level -> cost justification ratio. Air Force academy and Peterson Air Force Base are really nice, I am not sure if the Golf is public access. Never been to these, but I understand the Broadmore, Glen Eagle, and Kissing Camels are Excellent. I golf on a budget since I am 1st year starter, but so far I like Springs Ranch the most. Valley Hi and Cherokee Ridge are decent. I hear goods things about patty Jewwett too. Antler Creek is like #4 in the world for course yardage, and there are 2 courses there, with like 7 tees on most holes. The best thing about Springs Golf is at least one time you are lined up looking down a fairway, and the range is right in front with Pikes peak staring you down. Of course - I am new to CO and you might be less impressed. My main point about golfnow is that it excludes all the public courses, but if you're traveling you may be looking for a more exclusive club to make the trip worthwhile.

I did read an article about the new LPGA Commissioner stepping in after I think a short term by the outgoing Head of LPGA. Anyways what I deciphered was that the LPGA has spiraled downward over the past few years, sponsors are down, tournaments are down, and they are hoping to rejuvenate the sport in 2010. At any rate, like any sport I think that while female athletics are important to society, they just don't pick up the main media and fan coverage. Probably because men make up the better half of sport fans, and are more interested in the action being further, harder, faster, stronger, higher, or whatever other adjective need be inserted to describe excellence in a given sport. I hope they do get things going stronger, my wife is getting into golf, and it'd be nice for her to find a role model to follow in the game. And who knows - I might have a daughter that could one day aspire to play golf at a competitive level, and with LPGA support programs for those girls will be stronger.

Joey, I was checking out the Wilson Staff web site and I think the Ci9 clubs are designed to offer some shot shaping while being more forgiving on mishits than a traditional blade. That said it looked like the Di9 were more tailored to those needing assistance in club design to help keep it straight. I think that with the Ci9 you should expect to see the mistakes you make exaggerated, while it's possible the clubs you've been using didn't reveal them so much due to them being game improvement clubs. Two ways to look at it and decide if you made a good purchase. 1. You'll see the errors more and be forced to adjust your swing to a more correct line or 2. You wanted clubs that are designed for game improvement, and you need something else. Are you on a 30 day return policy? Can you try the Di9, and swap them out if they work better? Have you been to this web site? http://www.wilsonstaff.com

golfnow for Co. SPrings is missing about 9 Golf Courses I an think of right here in town. It seems to only list the most exclusive/expensive.

I meant to record these . will it be recurring show or just filling the Haney Project gap?

Don't the X-Box and PS3 advance motion systems come out this fall? Supposed to be very virtual reality based with most games.

there is a site called meetup.com - not hookup.com. you can enter your interests and join groups of people who share that interest. My wife and I joined a dachshund lovers group and that worked out. Helped us meet a few nice folks and some dog parks since we were new to town. Anyways there are golf groups too, just remember it isn't a dating site. You may be better off meeting someone with their own separate hobbies. This means that while you golf, they do x-y-z and are happy about it. Just a thought.

Well said Shanks. And I mean that. My only objection is that I do indeed struggle with the shots that are less than full swing, and it might take me two shots to hit green from 160 yards, but it takes me 4 from 75. Pisses me off because I drive similar distance as my friend when I hit well, but he's on in 2 and I am on in 4 or 5. I think this is because I have not gotten the touch yet. Always scared to hit the PW over the green, and then I baby hit one 30 yards. Also, I would be curious to see you hit here in Colorado, I wonder if your yardage would improve from Florida? Reality is, that last night I went out for 9 with that same friend, different course, on a 162 yard par 3 I hit MY Maxfli 6 Iron and it hit the green I think (fringe?) and rolled up and left. I was way left of right side pin placement and maybe 2 yds short of pin high and 2 feet into the 1st cut. I chipped and 2 putted for a 4 and was pretty happy with that. I was also 90 yards short of 250. I have hit that tee shot 3 times now with similar distance and with variable distances off center, and feel THAT is repeatable barring any mishits.

Congrats to you man! Hope to be there. Shot 49,50,51 on some 9 holers but have not bit the bullet for a full day yet.

Purchase a home putting mat to at least have something to do, Like when I would shoot free throws all day long when I broke my ankle as a kid. Wear a wrist brace if that's too painful.

I have watched darn near every "instruction" video I can find on the web. I have been reading magazines and books like it's for my PhD. I play a lot of sports, and they come natural to me. I have great hand eye coordination. I would label myself stronger than average. While buying my driver and measuring for swing speed to select the right shaft I was swinging at 103-109 mph. I think it is fair to say that if even for a beginner it is possible for one swing that all of the things that beginner knows in his mind to do but has not yet developed the habit of execution can come together to make one great swing, and perfect contact and an amazing result. Maybe throw in some environmental assistance to sweeten the deal? I am not foolish enough to think that tomorrow given the chance I could do it again, but I would never say it would be impossible. To say impossible IS foolish. For all to ponder... Maybe I should just change my HC to 2.5 and shower my signature with nothing but Titleist tour clubs and a shiny new Scotty Cameron putter. Tell you I play nothing but Pro v1 and that I won my local tournament last week (twice). I guess for all I know I am trying to defend myself to Johnny Mulligan who has selective memory when it gets time to write on the score card. Maybe YOU are the fraud. Maybe because you can't do it then YOU lack the ability to shoot in the 70's? Maybe you're the one that looks great in his favorite foursome - but get's his pants taken from him at the club tournament? You're right Ben - there is no reason to share positive moments here. It isn't worth it. There are some smart people with a wealth of advice that I'd like to learn something from to become better, and for those people I am glad I found the sand trap. I know I learned something from this thread.

OK so imagine this. You walk out of pro-shop with golf clubs in hand. You are walking perpendicular to the building exit towards the first tee and the people are hitting range balls onto the range, which is to your immediate right. You are walking directly behind the hitting area just far enough to not get clubbed. You get to the first hole which works its way up the left side of range. The 9th hole finishes near the first hole, and you must exit the course opposite the way you entered. A fence separates course and range and there is only one option to enter/leave the course. So when I say as we left he offers for me to hit clubs, we are literally on the driving range tee area at that moment. Just some spur of the moment thing, does that make it more clear? The trees I speak of are at the opposite end of the range. There is a 250 marker for sure, and I can't remember if this range has the 275 marker or another I go to. We guessed the trees to be around 290-300 and there is no net. I am 100% certain someone will find a way to tell me that the trees are in fact not as far as I think despite never having been there., but hey - that's the beauty of you guys.

I got it. Sure I could have clarified some things more. The details were not what I wanted to pass on in my posting. I never realized we'd be here when I originally wrote the story. See I am learning something about the users of this site. I see that in order to tell a "I had a good day golfing" story I must include absolute details, maps and possibly video if it is to be believed/or taken seriously. See the simple point was I hit a club pretty far, much further than normal, and I thought that was cool if in fact it is attributed to the club which I had never in fact seen, held, or hit before... or again for that matter. Sadly the low handicappers jumped all over me like some boy who cried wolf. Without knowing anything about me other than that I have a 34 handicap I was immediately dubbed a liar/storyteller. Well here's a reality check. I am in Colorado and have an elevation advantage, something I did not consider, since I am not native to here. I didn't check the wind, but perhaps it was in my favor? I shoot 17 over par, which is roughly a double bogey/hole average. I play 9 holes. That means 9 drives and 9 approach shots (par 3 not figured in). So the other 35-40 shots are pitching, chipping, and putting; all of which are shots which demand finesse, judgement, and technical skill - something a beginner may lack I'd say. So even if I COULD drive 350 yards with a driver (I can't), how is it so inconceivable that it still takes another 4-6 shots to get it up and down in the hole, especially when 2-3 are putts? I bet half of you +1 to +5 guys don't even remember what it was like to 3 putt after 3 bad pitches/chips...just playing in hopes to score that one par every now and then; to somehow justify all of the frustration. If you forgot those days, good for you, but don't always assume someone can't have one great thing happen once, just because they can't make 72 great consecutive shots like you. I'm done with this post / peace

""As we're walking the course exit which crosses the back of the driving range, Golfer 1 proceeds to ask me to hit his driver, then irons."" See, the thing about reading is you not only need to understand the definition of each word read, but also be able to comprehend the total thought that was written. So, cliff notes for my friend here: 1. The round was over 2. You must enter and exit the course from the range tee area 3. We were on the range tee area hitting into the range, just like everyone else who was there 4. The lights are right behind us and actually make the white ball contrast more clearly than during daytime. You're so stuck on proving me wrong that you're dumb enough to think I would hit from outside the range - into it and think that the markers mean something? Thats what is wrong with some people. Just because you have not done it, can't mean nobody can - especially ONCE . But hey - my good friend was present, 4 of us agreed upon the results, and you can either choose to accept or dismiss my post, but at least read it first and not just try to jump on me like you were there in the bushes playing paparazzi.

This Executive course in my town has 2 par 4's. The first par 4 is elevated tee 320yds over trees or 265 from down in front of trees. I have played here 3 times and once my ball was against a chain link fence roughly 20-30 yds behind and down a big slope. Once I was left on a tee box past parallel to the green. The last was pretty short and right in the adjacent par 4 fairway. I'd guess 200 yds max. I use the front tee because hitting over trees, water, or any other hazard usually means disaster for me, just not confident and bad thought make bad shots. The second has a creek bed splitting the fairway roughly 75 yards in front of the green. Taking the pro shop advice, I lay up with a 7i, and have gotten pretty close to the creek. This one has 10 yards if not less before the property fence if you go long making a driver a bad choice. My buddy hits driver every time he can and he hit over the fence the one time he joined me, this is coincidentally the time I approached so well my my 7i. http://www.worldgolfsandcreek.com/go...rse/course.htm

yeah I wouldn't expect to do it again tomorrow if we met up and let me hit his clubs. Perhaps the wind was in my favor, I dunno. Bottom line, it felt great of the face and was pretty cool feeling. The thing about trying to go buy blades is that I just started last fall, and while I might repeat a perfect swing once per round, I would likely be penalized all day for imperfect swings.

Those guys hit it on the head - but in layman terms If you play 5 rounds at your home course and score +28(100) every time you may have a 25 HC based on the course slope/rating(difficulty). Now if you go shoot a 94 on an easier course 3 times or a 105 on a harder course it is possible that your hc won't change. The scorecard should have slope/rating that you can use for online tracking, and if done right, each set of tees should have its own numbers assuming they got rated, which they may not have been. I like oobgolf too, its free, easy, and will show all kinds of reports if you put the data in to generate them.

My thought regarding high h'caps hitting respectable distances with a driver: 1. Its easy to hit 250 yards towards a 400 yd target 2. Its hard to hit 150 yards towards a 150 yard target 3. Its even harder to learn to hit 50 yards with that same club you just hit 130 with 4. Those 18 holes we aim for make up approximately 13 sq ft of a 7000 yd long golf course 5. Putting is a bitch Lastly - As someone posted pages ago... Most people who claim an average distance may be subconsciously counting their good or better drives and dismissing those bad ones. So if I go today and hit 3 fairways and they are all about 275 then I may say I drive 275, whereas the other 6 shots were 200 in the woods, the pond and the other fairway they might not be included. Ever tell a buddy you bowl a 200? If so you ever bowl a 75 on some dry or oily lane or on a bad day? Did you count that game in your "average"?
-
Congrats on the new low score. Maybe you miscounted the 2nd time and did get a 79 My buddy writes in his + "x" every time we go into the last hole, then he never writes in the last score or total. He also has short term memory loss and forgets to count some bad shots - but its not for money so I don't care, he'll learn the hard way if he goes into a tourney.
