  1. As others have said....yes it is a large gap but you can make the right adjustments where it shouldn't be that bi a deal. I wouldn't do it but that's just me, I'm also a 13HC'er and have my own issues to deal with (chipping and putting). Not to be a jerk....but you're a 3 HC. I've never met a 3HC'er that couldn't figure that one out for himself.....
  2. I carry a cheep retriever and I love it. For you guys who say that it takes too long......have you seriously every used one?? It takes me about 30 seconds to yank it from the bag, extend it and get the ball. If you're that impatient then PLEASE do not play behind me.......and for that matter.....give up the game because it's all about patience!! What do you do when you hit it in long rough?? Not look for it?? I will bet you anything that you spend more time looking for your ball in the rough than it takes me o fish a ball out of the water..... I also get a kick out of people that say it's an admission that you're going to hit in the water. For the love of god...gt off your high horse!! Yeah....i hit it in the water....and so do you, if carrying a retriever gets in your head.....then again....give up the game! While I'm at it..... I read a few posts of people saying "I hit a bad shot.....I deserve to lose that ball"...... WHAT?!?!?! Why is that again????? Let me ask you.... If you hit a shot and it just trickles into the water but you can easily get it with your iron...do you leave it?? No, you don't....so why not 'punish' yourself?? Or leave it behind?? I get such a kick out of some of these responses!! With all of that said.... if somebody is holding up play because he is fishing for balls....than yeah...that's dumb and asking for trouble. But if you're fishing your ball out of the drink....i think I can afford a fellow golf lover a few seconds to get his ball!! We all do it when someone hits it in the trees....why not the water?!?!
  3. Funny you said that....after I made that post I said to myself....'Gee, I ned to change my sig....I have a new putter and my bag changed'. I dropped the 3 wood a month ago. I found that I just didn't really use it....maybe once a round, if that....and I wanted to add a 56*, which I did. I hear you about the yardage gap. There is a big gap between the driver and 3h (50 yrds) but like I said.....the 3h is my best club and I'd rather be 15 yrds back but safe almost all of the time than 15-20 yrds further without as much accuracy. It hasn't killed me yet but it will be interesting to hear if people had the same setup as me...and what issues they saw.
  4. I know what you mean....Dude. But there really is no comparing the swing or the loss of distance between a 3 and 4 hybrid and a 3 and 4 or 5 wood....which is why I asked. I have never seen anybody go with my setup...which is another reason why I was curious. I'd be curious to hear more set-ups everyone....always good to get different perspectives and why they chose to go that route.
  5. Just curious if I am a loner here. Seems like the latest thing is to not use a 3w and use a 4w instead. I decided to kind of go a different route and take my 3w and 5w out of the bag and replace them with hybrids. I can hit the 3w well but I would rather be 10 yards back and almost always in the fairway with my 3h. I also like to carry 4 wedges (PW, 52, 56, 60) so I needed to make room. My odd setup is: Driver 3h 19* 4h 22* 4i-pw 52, 56, 60 In case you're wondering....I like carrying a 4h and 4i because to me they are both very different animals. 4i keeps it low and out of the wind and the 4h gets me in the air quickly, I can stop it better and hit it 10yrds further. So does anyone else only carry a driver and no other woods.....or am I just a freak??

  7. My friend once wrote my and a few other friends phone numbers on his balls when we played at a place he knew he'd lose them at..........still never got a call from someone trying to return the ball........
  8. I t drives me nuts when people try to cover their mistakes with lame reasons....they basically are insulting your intelligence. Your clubs are FINE in the car. The only thing that COULD happen is the grips may dry out sooner, but most people regrip at the very least every other year anyway. As others have stated, keep them in the car, they're fine. The only thing I do is keep my iron covers on the Mizzy's when they're in the car so they don't get excess bag chatter. Think about it this way...most people keep clubs in the garage when they're not in the car. I live in Maine and the garage gets insanely cold.....and hot and humid. What's the difference. Of course there are those people that keep them in the living room or bedroom....but they're probably single, never had a girlfriend and have bigger issues than a bad epoxy job!
  9. I'm in the same boat. I want to play 15 clubs.....but that might be a no no!! I'm dropping my 3wood for now.....or maybe my 60* lob depending on conditions. Mostly though...I see no use for the 3 wood because myhome course doesn't warant it if I play ok. That's the key though...IF I PLAY OK!! If I am short on the tee on some drives, I need the 3...I might just deal with it though as I have been out 8 times this year (live in Maine) and I have hit the 3wood once.
  10. I think you can get Mizuno at Dicks but they special order it maybe....not sure if they carry them at their stores. $49 is a good price to get fitted. Another option would be to go maybe 7i, 6i, 5i, 4i with the 300's and pw, 9i,8i maybe 7i with the MP.... there is a difference in lofts though..... Something to think about....
  11. Supposedly the smaller the number in the MP line the more forgiving the club. Not sure if that's true or not but it seems to be the case. I have tried all of the clubs in the MP line and the 52's and 58's were at the top of the list. Both VERY nice. If I were you I would look at the 52's. you can also do a mixed bag of 52 and 58. A lot of people do this. I opted for the 57's. They are half a year older but VERY sweet. A good blend of the 2. You can find a brand new set for $500 and under now......one of the best bargains going...but obviously I'm biased. My best recommendation is to try all of them. Those 300's are very nice so make sure you compare the MP to the MX. The MP is a different animal.....ie, less loft, thinner topline and thinner sole. BTW...some may say that a 16HC should not play MP's......ignore them....they probably are not a 16 HC and have not played an MP. The 52 is FINE for a 16. I'm a 12 now and can't imagine playing those big clunky GI clubs......
  12. Yeah.....I'm in the minority I guess. The idea of meticulously cleaning every club after every round.....simply seems silly to me. After every shot I wipe down the face or brush/wash the junk out of the grooves (I have a small spray bottle attached to the brush on my bag. The faces and heads on all of my clubs look spotless....and I NEVER clean them at the house other than at the end of the season. Grips I'll wash down of course every few weeks but that's it. Sorry guys....but meticulously cleaning the entire bag is silly after every round. The difference in appearance is negligable at best. No offense too.....charging $40 to clean clubs is ridiculous! Paying $40 is even more ridiculous!!
  13. NICE!! That's a great deal man! Good luck out there and let us know your impressions. I agree about getting them fit at that place. SHouldn't be too much money and you'll know which shaft will work best for you too.
  14. Ahhhhhhhh.......&^%&* it then....save the cash.....
  15. Tough call man. If your local golf shop spent a lot of time with you and by the sounds of it....they really did....I would have a problem if I were in your shoes to just use them, then take what they taught you and bought them from the Bay. If it were a big chain like Dicks or something....I'd have no problem using them HAHA!! Maybe just tell them what you're thinking and they might cut you a deal....maybe meet you in the middle or something. You may pay more up front....but those clubs will have to be checked for lie every year....they may do that for nothing since you bought it from them too. Sometimes $150 now.....won't look like that much in 2 years... plus you have the peace of mind knowing theyre covered locally...as opposed to some dude you'll NEVER see or talk to. They won't give a &^% about you right after you pay..... something to think about.
  16. I am one of those people who play a 4H and 4I.......my reason...there are shots that I need a 4i for that a 4h can't do a vise versa. I also hit the 4h about 15 yrds further when I want to 'turn on the switch' so when I need that little extra umph i pull out the hybrid and swing it hard....I feel like I can control a H better swinging a bit harder than my I.
  17. My best advice (other than to get the 300's..HAHA) is to follow whatever the shaft optimizer says. Believe it or not...that funky little thing is dead on. It will give you 3 suggestions. With me it said 1) Dynamic Gold s300 2) Project X5.5's 3) Nippon. I went with its #1 choice, the Dynamic Gold, and I can't imagine playing another shaft in my MP57's. BTW.... you may be able to get more money on those G10's if you sell them privately. Those are nice clubs that people may want. If you sold them at another site that has WRX in the title for $300...they'd last about 4.5 seconds.....
  18. Let me make your decision for you.......Get the 300's and do not look back!!!! They are great clubs. The 200's may be a bit more forgiving....but the 300's will give you more feedback and almost ell you what you did wrong. They are the step before 'players irons' and I think they will give you a better oppotunity to 'grow into' them. As for the lower ballflight....what shaft was in them? I'm guessing the Dynamic Golds?? If so....they tend to fly a little lower. you may want to try the Proj X5.5's. Good luck and let us know how happy you are once you do the right thing and choose the 300's!! BTW.....$429 out the door is a crazy good price......
  19. I think a lot also depends on the course you play. At my course I always bring my 3 hybrid along with a 5 wood....if it's windy I keep the 5 in the car and play the hybrid. A lot of times I'll keep both in the car and opt for another wedge if it's calm and in the morning with a lot of dew on the grass. Most of the time I play Driver, 3W, 4hybrid, 4,5,6,7,8,9,pw, 52, 56, 60. I hit my 4 hybrid about 15 yards longer than my 4I so it kind of takes the place of a 3i or 3h......sounds confusing but it works perfect for my course. At another course I sit the 60 and put in either the 5w or 3h....... So to wrap up this ultra confusing reply........ also let the course you're playing and conditions dictate what you will put in the bag...... (probably could have just said that!! )
  20. HAHAHA!!!! That's a funny visual picturing someone is a casket with their irons!! Yeah I hear where you're coming from. I think where I'm at right now is that I am ultra paranoind about my new Mizunos. I never had forged clubs before....but after hitting them...I WILL NEVER buy cast again.....even if I don't play them any better...they just feel so sweet. I just want them to last as long as possible as I honestly feel that 'iron technology' is much slower to evolve then say drivers or hybrids. I just can't see myself upgrading my irons every 3 years like I do my driver and other woods.....so I want to take care of them as well as I can so I can squeeze out as much time with them. I'm sure I'll use iron covers 3 times then say '&*^% this' and strip them off!!
  21. Yep........unfortunately I am old enough..... When did I say you shouldn't cover woods?? I said that 'why would we protect our woods and putter but not our irons'...especially if they're soft. I never said 'We shouldn't protect our woods'???? I hear you about the walls of a wood being INSANELY thin. Even more reason to cover up those irons I guess........extra protection is always a good thing I get. Thanks for helping me decide to cover up those 'tools'........
  22. HAHAHA!!!!! Sounds like people are now trying to convince us of their macho-ness by wearing jeans and cargos!! With that said....I only wear cargo shorts when I golf.....lots of pockets for tee's and other junk......I didn't know wearing cargo shorts were not the norm........ I might actually try the head covers....... why would we protect our woods and putter but not the irons?? Makes no sense.....
  23. EXACTLY!!!!! Thanks for helping me prove my point!! If people who actually swung a hammer though thought that we didn't take care of our tools....then it obviously shows their ignorance!! BTW....a 'yuppie' is another word for a 'pretty boy'. Thanks again for helping me prove my point.....even though something tells me that wasn't your plan when you replied......
  24. Ok....not sure I'll go with the headcovers for my irons....I just see myself getting sick of dealing with them....as it is I hate dealing with my driver, 3w, 3h, 4h and putter covers.....I don't need 9 more....... As for the whole 'irons are tools' thing....and I HAVE to say this....for the love of pete, DO NOT compare irons to pipe wrenches or hammers. I have swung a hammer quite a lot in my life and IT IS NOT THE SAME!! We are golfers that show up to nice courses with our little yuppie clothes that say Ping, Izod Adidas etc. We then frown upon people wearing jeans on a course. Our irons that we are LUCKY enough to afford and enjoy are not our tools that keep us employed....and they CERTAINLY do not make us look macho. If it makes golfers feel more macho to show up to the country club with dings on their irons...or my favorite...rust on their wedges...then to each their own. But do me this favor....next time you're there, find the maintenance guy and ask him to get his hammer and ding up the $300 Scotty or Bertinardi putters a bit....afterall...they're meant to look used...........
  25. Pings?? I never looked at Pings....not do I like Pings (preference.... ). You must be getting me confused with someone else..... Thanks for the advice guys! I heard that using iron covers were actually bad for forged clubs as they trap moisture in and promote rust?
