  1. That's Billy Payne. He's the Chairman at Augusta National. He's also the guy who was responsible for bringing the Olympics to Atlanta. The Green Jacket is presented to the winner. Tell me, what other major sporting event has the announcer make the presentation to the champion?
  2. Thanks. Glad to see you guys are on top of this.
  3. The poll needs one more choice "Never"
  4. I got paired with pot smokers once. I thought I was nuts because I could smell it but didn't know where it was coming from. I made them share when we got to the parking lot ;)
  5. There are a couple of ways of handling it. You could pull him aside, away from his wife, and give him some friendly advice. Since you were playing with someone you know, you could correct your partner on some of the things he did wrong. Stop and give your buddy a "look". He turns to the guy and says, "yeah, I shouldn't move while he's getting ready to swing." (Plan it ahead of time.) As far as walking through your line, again, two choices. Stop him and point out your line or shut up and take it. Believe me, he'll feel better in the long run knowing what to do.

    Tiger

He'll be back. That's what he does. That's what Earl would have wanted. It will be interesting to see what happens to Tiger. Will he put golf before all as Earl wanted or will he decide that family is more important because time with them is fleeting?
  7. I hate to give you grief here. However, you earlier stated that you never saw Jack in his prime. How can you say those things? In addition, you talked about how far Tiger hit the ball. If Jack had the same equipment as Tiger, at the same age, he'd hit it just as far. Before courses were "Tiger proofed", they were "Bear proofed". Jack hit 300 yard drives off the screws; not off of titanium. Finally, you talked about Tiger being "he's a built athlete". Well Jack started winning Majors looking like Phil. He got leaner as he matured.
  8. Flap, I have a question for you since you've played the black for so long. I used to play it during the 1980's. I had heard that before then, they had moved the 18th green. That the original one was up where the flag poles now stand. Is this true? Can you shed some light on the subject? Thanks.
  9. Maybe it's an easier walk now. Plus the weather isn't that warm this time of year. That helps.
  10. I loved playing this course. I moved away in '89. It is the one thing, besides real pizza and deli food, that I really miss. It taught me course management. That long fescue was so bad that it took us 5 minutes to find this guy's Sunday bag after he put it down looking for another guy's ball. It was $14 for greens fees and a buck and a half for a pull cart. My 5 wood was used a lot. Hell, I don't even carry one here. My Uncle Fred used to say this about the Black, "You had to be half golfer and half mountain goat to play that thing." Now that you've played it, was he right?
  11. Because of the exclusivity, Augusta National. Deep Stuff, Don't fear the Black. Just be smart. After you've tried to hit out of the rough a few times, just look for the 150 yard marker and get the ball there. The really difficult part of the course is the walk. As my uncle once said, "you have to be part mountain goat."
  12. Interesting read. However, other than "the golfer" quote in the first paragraph, the rest of the quotes in the article are from other "reporters".
  13. Since I don't play for money or in tournaments, I went with "slow play". On a similar note, I can't stand the people who like to combine hobbies. If you didn't hit it into the creek, you don't need to be fishing for golf balls. Even if you did, just get yours and move on.
  14. On a shot that comes up short-usually a putt: "Does your husband play golf?"
  15. Putter? Looks more like a gap wedge.
  16. Why do you think "old" guys beat the hell out of you? They don't hit it far but it's straight down the middle. 3 shots to the green and 1 putt for par.
  17. I'd like to vote but I can't. My brother gave me a putter for my first round 24 years ago. I still use it.
  18. Still don't have one. Just missed it Friday afternoon. 183 yard par 3. Elevated tee to a green that has a creek in front. Hit an easy 4 iron that stopped 2 ft to the right of the hole.
  19. Apology accepted. That was very refreshing. You don't get that on many discussion boards. Please accept my apology for reacting the way I did. All the games I play are "friendly". I don't have any golfing buddies. None of my friends play and I've only been a member of a club since July. I haven't played with the same person twice.
  20. I guess the one time every dozen or so rounds I play makes me a cheater. BFD I like how you started this thread with your feet planted firmly on the ground."Guilty" It's a shame you ended up on a high horse. "let's cut the bullshit..." Not that I'm "judging" you or anything.
  21. I hit em where they stop >99% of the time. I'll move it only if it's surrounded by rocks. I don't play money games and I'd rather not damage a club.
  22. You know they're always going to add some sort of "romance". That doesn't bother me. I haven't seen it but it is my understanding the final scores were changed for dramatic effect.
  23. You guys have covered most things that drive me nuts. Except one. Hang up the ^%$@#*%#&$@#&$#@$ phone!!!!!
  24. Sports movies about actual events should be accurate to the history. It is my understanding that this movie is not. I don't mind them adding to the story but you have to have facts straight.
  25. Sybase DBA soon to be Oracle DBA.
