I was there two weeks ago and really enjoyed TPC also. I thought the customer service was second to none there. Funny thing about those squirrels, they stole my sunflower seeds. Then seemingly taunted me by staying just out of my reach with them. Wachesaw was easy. I have the same take away that you did. I play River every year and it is a fun course. Willbrook is down there b y River also and it is a fun track also. Next time you need to tackle the Caledonmia and True Blue courses. Glad you are having fun. If you are down in South Myrtle/Pawleys area again, go to Captain Johns. He is a great guy (and golfer) and has a great pub/restaurant with killer blackened shrimp po-boys. For a cool steak or italian dinner hit http://www.angelosteakandpasta.com . We found it in Gold Digest last month and it was awesome. All 8 guys on the trip loved it. Family owned and been there a long time.

Taylormade Burner HT steel shaft irons
mcotter replied to Ptowngolf33's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I think these are irons that can only be bought at Dicks Sporting Goods. Not available anywhere else. That made me a bit leary. That said, they seem like a normal burner, and probably have a soft tip shaft. If you hit them well, they are perfect. Congrats! -

Most "forgiving" of mp series irons
mcotter replied to kennay92's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The manufacturer clearly states thatthe mp52's are the most forgiving in the line. That is the correct answer. I have been playing Ping i3's for 11 years and just bought the Mp-52's a couple weeks ago. I am regretting the purchase but will likely stick with the new clubs. They are 5-6 yards shorter than the pings and the pings are not strong lofted like the newer game improvement irons. Both have 47 degree PW. The biggest difference is in the turf interaction. The Ping will not lose much distance at all if you hit SLIGHTLY fat, where the mp52's dig into the turf and give no grace. As I get older, the last thing i want is to lose distance by technology. Father time is doing a good enough job of that as it is. -
I play the Calloway tour ix and it feels like the ProV1 to me. Not really cheaper though. Bottom line, there are several ball companies making progress to compete with the Pro V1, but the price point is within $3-4/dozen of the ProV1, so why change?

I have a Cobra 350 that is about 10-12 years old in the bag. Loft is 10.5 degrees. My 3 wood is just as old and is a Cleveland launcher 15 degrees. My issue is that I really have trouble with trajectory. I need to find a head/shaft combination that will help get the ball in the air. It seems quite strange but I have hit several drivers, including the G15 12 degree regular shaft and dont get it any higher than the old cobra and feel like i get more distance out of the Cobra. I'm, a good driver and hit the ball fairly consistently on the sweet spot so this is a launch angle issue. I obviously close down a bit at impact. Any ideas? I replaced the irons, now looking to replace the driver, 3 wood, and a 20 degree hybrid. Need to find shaft/head combo that works.

This is interesting. I am from Jack neck of the woods and not a fan. Wish I was, but Jack is really quite a prick in person. I loved when he tries to bait snead into entering this argument by asking/leading him with the question, "how much better would you be with the technology of today?". Snead smiled and said "Not at all Jack, I always hit it on the sweet spot. I didn't need more forgiveness". Jack was caught offguard. Jack was very very good, but I agree Tiger is better, and certainly more dominant.

Forged Irons Life Expectancy?
mcotter replied to kingface12's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I think I may prove EVERYONE on this thread wrong. My forged irons (MP52's) may not make it 3 rounds. If I hit them the way I did the first two times out, I am going to shove them up *&^%$*%*(^!!! -
Question for those of you with back problems...
mcotter replied to tws1098's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Okay, here is my trick. I have a ruptures disc between L4/L5 and L5/S1. I take 4 advil (800mg) and use a thermal-care 8 hour disposable heat wrap on my lower back for the entire round including an hour or so prior to starting. When you pick the ball up out of the hole or off the ground, put your weight on one bent leg leaning forward with the other leg back behind it (almost lifting it). If you can get used to a long putter, do it. My neurosurgeon has been on me to convert to one but; A) I cant get used to it, and B) my golf buddies would never let me hear the end of it. Good luck. Oh, by the way, I have done so many stretches over the years but there are really non that can help disc issues. -
I am not joking at all. I had a very high handicap several years ago and found that i could hit the 7 wood a couple hungred yards straight. I took 3w and driver out of the bag and told my brother to keep them. I didnt want to be tempted to put them back in the bag. Handicap went down immediately. Once I got to about an 18, I went and bought a driver that I could hit...the old girl is still in the bag (about 12 years now). Dont let ego get in the way.

It surprises me that as a 35 handicap you can hit the green 3 out 4 times from over 200 yards. My advice is this...Get rid of your driver and hit nothing longer than the 4 iron. 200 plus straight off a tee consistently should knock 15 strokes off your handicap. The biggest issue I see with higher handicappers using hybrids with poor results is due to them using them wrong. Most people try to hit them like a wood. You need to hit them like the iron you replace them with. Do not use a sweeping swing. This is likely the problem because if you sweep them, you will deloft the club and lose distance. If you hit it correctly (like an iron with steeper swing) it will go farther than the iron. Unless of course you have stronger lofted irons, which many today are. Good Luck.

Well I got my irons a couple days ago and took them out for their maiden voyage today. Beautiful course, beautiful weather, horrible game. I mean I was terrible. Could not believe it I was hitting balls fat, or off hosel all day. Shot a 49 on the front and 40 on the back. Here is the kicker: when i got done Playing I called the pro that fit me and the conversation went like this: Me: "Hey Rodney, it's Cotter. Are you at the course?" Pro: "Sure am. How was your game today with the new sticks?" Me: "Well, I am going to swing over and shove each of these irons up your @$$". Pro: "Wow!?! That bad? We need to check the lie, I cant do it tonight though, can you come tomorrow". Me: "No I am playing tomorrow. You may not be able to check them, but that is okay. But I'm still coming over to shove these up your @$$. Which one do you want first?" Pro: "Well, i guess if I have to choose.... I'd prefer to start with the smallest one." LOL. True story. I went over, and he put me on the lie board and then put the clubs of the loft/lie adjuster and found Mizuno screwed up the order. They were ordered 2 degrees flat (spec sheet w/them said 2 FL), but they measured out 2 degrees up. Meanwhile I lose $50 on a nassau. UGGH!

Scotty Putter jumping- not true roll
mcotter replied to mcotter's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I think 5 or 6 degrees is worse for me. I think I need less loft. The ball jumps not skids off the face on long putts. The Odysseys are 3 degrees and the Nikes appear to be 2 degrees. -

mcotter replied to mcotter's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
He was nt the one looking for a new putter...I am. Come on man...this is about me!! I agree though that it is my stroke and not the putter. That is clearly the case or the tour wouldnt be full of them. However, I am a pretty good putter. I guess I have learned to function within my dysfunction. Maybe the ugly old Odyssey needs to stay in the bag. I really want a smooth rolling new putter though. -

I am not sure where to begin with the adjustment though. Wouldnt know what to tell them. I am not dead set on scotty though. -
I obviously have a stroke that doesnt have my hands forward enough because I just went to the club to pick up a California Del Mar. I putted and the thing jumped then rolled out. I then tried 4 other SC models with the same result. Man, I love the look of thise things but they arent for me. Frustrating. I have an old Odyssey Rossi blade that I was looking to retire. Not happening now. I really would like to have a new milled putter though. Suggestions?

Yes you are incorrect. Point it at any object and if will give you distance. It gives exact distance to flag, where gps gives front back and middle.

Do you have a laser? I have a skycaddie for the last couple years. Have had a bushnell laser for many many more years. I hardly ever use the skycaddie. I think it was a total waste of money. The laser is much better.

PING i15's. Authentic or counterfeit?

Does anyone think these look counterfeit? I just ordered MP52's, but the ping i15's were a very, very close second. Thought about picking these up also because I was planning to add two ping hybrids anyway. Could try them and sell off wedges and one of the iron sets.

If I gave up my 60 i would see my handicap go up overnight. That club is awesome. I like low bounce on mine. 4 to 5 degrees.

I am in the clkub now too! Just went to my club and the Mizuno rep was there. Gave me a complete fitting and ordered a set of MP52's and 3 MT-10 wedges. The shaft optimizer is really incredible. The ability to see different shafts with same exact head with vastly different ball flight. I dont know how it would be best for anyone to buy off the rack. Can't wait.

Players Irons or Game Improvement Irons
mcotter replied to mcotter's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'M BACK BABY!!! Went back to the course and the Mizuno rep was actually there. Hit the ball sweet. I ended up ordering the MP52's 4-W, MT10 wedges in 52,56,60. Cant wait to get them. I was torn between them and the Ping i15's. The pings were longer (stronger lofted) and a bit more forgiving, but I just liked the look of the Mizunos. Been playing ping for a long time and wanted a change. The shaft optimizer is really unbelievable. Perhaps best of all, the swing problem that i had (extreme heel shot- not saying the other word) was gone. Shot a 78 with a double bogey today. Happy with that anytime, but especially the first round of the year.
