  1. I saw sergio's arse fall out at carnoustie and in the PGA. Some irish dude with crazy eyes lucked in on Garcia's misfortune. As for the ryder cup your dreaming...Donalds back was so sore from carrying Padraig that Monty switched him to Fisher and you could see him running straight to the physio after his match due to back pain...padraigs not a small lad! Harrington is the only pro golfer i can think of that when they hit a drive the crowd runs into the middle of the fairway for safety!
  2. Padraigs awful, and he has been gifted 3 majors. We won the ryder cup with 11 men.
  3. always happens when people are watching! i also hate the thinned iron shot in winter...the one that stings so much it brings tears to your eyes.
  4. hopefully all goes well with the op etc. 75 notes for that trolley is pretty good last time i looked at them they were around the £100 mark. nice bag aswell. very similar to the tour callaway bag which is very nice as well. i carry at the moment but i did have an electric trolley for a bit before i was forced to sell it you will notice such a difference after a round....you feel as fresh as a daisy. definatly fewer aches and pains.
  5. just bought this book on amazon....i hope its as good as some of you guys have said. Certainly sounds like a cracking book thanks.
  6. this book was a complete eye opener. the whole book transformed me from a 16 handicapper to a 9 within a few months. At the time i was turning my hips loads rather than creating torque between the upper and lower body and the bit about moving the lead foot out to 45 degrees made so much sense. he is without doubt my golfing hero.
  7. sergio has been on the tour since he was a kid. I have thought for the last year that he just didnt look like he wanted to be there and that a 3-6 month break away from the game would be the best thing for him. That way when he comes back he will be hungry again. the guy has so much talent its unreal. If he could putt like tiger he would have double figure majors. flat stick kills him.
  8. dont know if this counts but after playing as a righty for 10 years as an 8 handicap i changed to left handed (my natural side) and after a week of practise played a 92 first time out, no cheating and no gimmies. A lot of golf is course management, decision making and putting chipping so having the experience may have helped alot, even if i was scuffing a few shots.
  9. longest, 350 on a par 5. 500 yard hole and had exactly 150 to the green. that was wind behind height of summer with firm fairways. normally i shrimp it around 260.
  10. In response to me only wanting English players in the team, couldn't be further from the truth since I'm Scottish. Listen I have nothing but the utmost respect for every single pro golfer, to play at the level they do and to hit the shots and make the decisions they make under the most intense pressure is incredible. I'm sure that harrington is a great guy but I just don't rate him as a player, I think he has over achieved and made the most from his game. As for cabrera he is great to watch but he is patchy as shit. The guy couldn't get two or three top tens in a row if his life depended on it. And to compare these two or any other active pro to tiger is foolish. Tigers record is the stuff of fantasy and I guarantee he will beat jacks record.
  11. Ok let me stick some stats and facts in to back up what im saying, obviously im on my own here with my opinion but im sticking to it.. Cabrera - 46th in world. (will be outside of top 50 by this time next year) 143 starts on PGA tour. - 19 top tens, 1 top 3, 2 wins. Now if we ignored the fact that the two wins were majors then he would be a journey man. Harrington - 22nd in world. (Was in the top 10 a year ago) in 2010 played 18 events on PGA tour. 1 top 3 and no wins.....Harrington ROCKS! oh wait....he doesnt.
  12. Yeah Cabrera worse than North. Again he only won the masters because Perry bottled it. As for Faldo he's a chump. Worst European captain bar none. He couldnt even get the players names right at the opening speech. Picking poults was the only good thing he did for the team. And Harrington is toss. He lucked his way to three majors and has done nothing since. He is as over rated a golfer as U2 are a rockband.
  13. 1 major = Rich Beem. 2 majors = Angel Cabrera. 3 majors = Padraig Harrington.- worst in my opinion. He lucked his way to three majors because Sergio bottled two of them and Greg Norman bottled the other. Without his short game he wouldnt even keep his card. Cant believe Monty picked him over Rose or Casey. Just crazy!
  14. Your right brad and dottie are the business, some of the stuff miller says makes you wonder if it's actually an ex pro talking or have they actually hired phillip Seymour hofman. They both sound and look very similar.
  15. Personally he annoys the shit out of me but I thought I would throw it out there.
  16. Old ones all the time. If your a granny shagger you would be quids in. Young fit girls? Never seen one yet.
  17. Just what we need, another major in america. Im all for golf going the same way as tennis. Its a global game and over the next ten years with the olympics in 2016 we will be seeing a lot of chinese, indian, pakistani, south korean etc golfers coming through and becoming big starts. There should be the Open(british) the U.S open and then can the masters and the pga in favour of a French open and say an Australian. I mean who cares about the pga anyway? its the major that everyone would put as last place of the four (except maybe tom watson). The masters? great tournament, fantastic course but because its invitation only it excludes players that should be there in favour of past winners. Dont get me wrong its nice to see the old boys out playing but very few can put a score together on the course and very few ever make the cut. just my opinion.
  18. i think from reading all the posts one thing is clear. It doesnt matter whether your a lefty playing left or right or vice versa its what feels most natural and comfortable. For me playing as a right handed player always felt contrived so playing left handed was and is always going to be better for me. Thats not to say its the same for anyone else and i guess its each to their own. My handicap only got down to 7 due to lots of hard work, good course management and a good touch on the greens. i was never a particularly good ball striker with the ball often going very low and my bad shot being a hook. Hopefully playing as a left hander with the proper body positioning and spine angle it gives me a much better foundation for a consistent and repeatable action.
  19. Well today I played my first holes of golf as a lefty. A par 3 course 9 holes, average of 140 yrds hole length. 6 bogeys 3 pars. 33. Very very happy. The real test is a full proper 18 holes later in the week. Early signs though are good. Ball flight is good and distance isn't too bad. Regarding the comments about arm dominance in a right handed swing the left arm is really just a lever for the club, the power and club head speed comes from the burst of right hand at the last action before stoking the ball. No way can you generate 120 mph club head using just your shoulder turn/ arm turn. That dominant hand HAS to throw the club head down the line just before impact. Or at least that's my opinion. Phill.
  20. The main reason I'm making the change is a biomechanical one. If I bend from the hips and get into the setup position my hips push out to the right a little. This means my spine leans slightly to the left and if I play right handed my shoulders are level. It explain why I have always hit the ball left and why used to collapse slightly on my back swing. Now as a lefty my hips are now slightly forward, spine leans away from target and my left shoulder is lower than my right. It looks like a text book set up and feels much more natural and powerful. I will keep adding weekly updates. I will be practising every day and plan to play a round on thursday just to see where I am with it. I managed to borrow a full set of left handed clubs so I'm good on that front. Thank to everyone for the support. Phill.
  21. I have played golf for the last ten years as a right hander getting lessons the whole deal, I managed to get myself down to a seven handicap. However being a natural lefty I have always flirted with the idea of changing side, so to speak. Well today I came out of the golfing closet and announced that I would be starting from the beginning as a lefty and I have to say that I think it's the best move I could have made. Already my swing feels more natural and fluid, my spine and hips align much better and my contact with the ball was actually rather good. As with most left handed people who take up golf right handed I did so because I was given a right handed set and some lessons and it's all too easy to stick with it since golf is supposed to be difficult and awkward when you start. Here's to the next 18 months of blood sweat and tears. Does anyone have any advice or tips they can help me with? Cheers
  22. I do try and play a hole be it a par 4 or 5 to allow me at least a full 58 wedge into the green. That way I avoid hitting half shots into greens and also when you play a long iron/hybrid/ fairway wood off the tee you maximise your chance of hitting fairways. 2 birds 1 stone.
  23. ok im a left hander who plays right handed golf. Every other sport i play involving a raquet etc is played left handed. Now i have never been a fantastic ball striker, i have days where i flush it but for every one of those days i have ten where i rely on some serious grinding and the flat stick to get me round the course. Recently i was using a mirror in my living room to check my swing when i noticed that my hips were pushed away from the target and my spine was leaning towards the target. When I took a full back swing i was reverse pivoting BIG time, which explains why i have always used a 3/4 swing for some sort of consistency, and that anytime i have tried a full swing the ball goes everywhere and i can top and chunk it in equal measure. Anyway when i set up at address and bumped my hips forward(towards the target) i noticed a massive difference straight away! at the top of the back swing i was behind the ball, the tension was in my right thigh, and i had a proper feeling of being coiled. Lets just say that in the three range sessions since noticing this and the one round on the course its like im a different player, im flushing every shot every time, well on the way to the scratch handicap i so desire!! anyway my point is this....i cant remeber any golf instruction manual mentioning to bump your hips towards the target, and it may just be because im left side dominant that mine were wrong, but have a look in the mirror and if your ball striking is a little off its worth a try. anyone else have any experience of this? cheers.
  24. oh and i hear you on the equipment side, i have about £1500 worth of gear in my bag which if i change will need to be swapped or sold....my wife will not be my friend.
  25. i am struggling with something similar. Im a left hander who plays golf right handed, mainly because when i was younger left handed clubs were a rarity. I play baseball, softball, cricket, tennis and any other sport you can name as a left hander and am pretty good at most. My issue is this - should i change to become a left handed golfer? playing right handed im off 8 but i cant get the consistency i would like and i feel that with some lessons and practise left handed that i could be much better..is this a mistake? in answer to your post paddy i would say go for it. There have been pga tour pro's in the past who have hit all shots one way and putted the other way round. If it feels natural dont fight it.....this games hard enough.
