Callaway X Hot 2 Driver - wow, wow, wow
dmnoland replied to 1484's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Yes, for me the X hot 2 is a great driver. I also play the first RBZ and the Cally has less spin thus I can hit it straighter but it just will not go as far. -
For me, the bounce is too high. I simply cannot flop, chip or pitch with my sand or lob. Sure, full out swings are great but delicate shots require a much different grind. Another thing is the grooves. I can really produce more/better spin with my Callaway wedge vs. the Ping G10 in my set. Just take a look after a shot and see how much ball residue you have on the club face. Grooves matter. For me the most versatile wedge has been the original Ping Eye 2 sand wedge at 58 degrees. I can't really explain it but there is just something about the leading edge, grind and bounce together (not to mention no glare off the patine d BeCu head) that simply works for me.

Last I read (wral.com) the land has been sold. Herman is supposed to be one of the best (check him out on youtube) but I would not spend $150 /hour for kids lessons. Tim, the head pro at KP does clinics for kids 7-9 and the next one starts 8/9. It's 4 Saturdays 9-10am and I think it cost $60 total. Tim along with Hutch and Tatoo are really good with kids, that is the route I would take with an 8 year old. I'll be there bright and early tomorrow if you want to play.

Hi Joe, I'm David. If you are ever looking for someone to play either 9 or 18 let me know. I live near Knights Play and practice there just about every day. If you are thinking about lessons, Herman Williams (http://thesandtrap.com/t/72190/herman-williams-golf-good-or-not) now teaches at KP. Also if you have any interest in playing Crooked Creek you had better do it this summer. They are closing down later this year.

Herman teaches at my local course. I've chatted with him a couple of times and he seems like a great guy but he's not inexpensive. I usually pay $40 for a 45 min. lesson. Herman charges $75 for 30 min. with the first lesson being 1 hour for $150. Are his numbers out of line for quality instruction?

A small bucket at my course is about 45 balls. First couple of swings, no ball. Just want to see where the bottom of my swing arc is that day. All stock shots, I'm not very good at nor do I really care about shaping shots. I just want to make good, balanced swings. 58 deg wedge, gap wedge, 9, 7, 5h, 3h, driver, and a few bunker shots. If I'm hitting well, have time and balls left, I'll work back down the bag hitting the clubs I skipped. I may only hit one ball with each club if I'm really on. If I encounter trouble with my swing, I'll focus on that for a little while but I'm really just trying to find out what shape my swing is in that day. I always save the last 2 or 3 to practice my first tee shot. One other thing I do is after the first few swings once I'm loose, I put the alignment rod back in the bag and go through my normal preshot routine before each strike.

A few thoughts, 4 degrees is a lot. Is your wrist to floor somewhere around 38.25"? I just bought some used Pings 1 1/2 degrees too upright but I can play them without a problem. I would think that it playing irons that are too flat devastating and unmanageable. Normally I would agree that lessons instead of clubs would be money well spent but you are not that close to standard specs. If I were you I would check Ebay and Craigslist. You just might find a decent set in your specs. I notice that there are far more upright sets for sale than flatter lies. Second, if you are dead set on new gear, buy Pings and get fit again because if somewhere down the road your swing changes enough to require a change in lie angle, Ping will change it free for the life of the club (not sure about lengths changed for free though). Ping just announced the G30s so expect some heavy discounts soon on the G25s.

I received my first kit fine before I posted about it but wouldn't you know that my second order came with just 1 grip (in a great big box). Well I called and complained and they sent me a replacement via UPS 2 day. Just received it and it's the full kit! Funny thing is they are going to pay for me to return the single grip. Seems like the freight would be more than just eating the cost of 1 grip.

My 64 is both my favorite club in the bag and the one that's been with me the most years. I tend to usually go for the pin so I short side myself alot. The 64 is great when you have so little green to work with. Now keep in mind that I set up with my weight very forward and chip/pitch with more of a putting stroke so I'm delofting the club to about 60 or less but can still hit the super flop when I need to. -
For Ping, yes. Nope, I already received my first grip kit and just ordered my second for my back up set.

Pure Grips P2 .600 kit (13 grips and installation gun) $8.07. The gun alone is $35. Blue only. Link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006G2N65M/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc;=1

That was pretty funny when the announcer said that the name of that boat was "Top 5"

Assuming you are right handed and have a repeatable swing your miss to the left indicates either the lie angle is too upright or the shaft flex is too light. I inherited my Dad's clubs (G-10's) yellow dot (1 1/2 degree upright) and I consistently would draw/hook the ball with a shallow divot even when I thought I hit it fat. Obviously the heel was making first contact with the ground first and pulling the head around creating the pull to the left. I have been fit by 4 Ping fitters and all concluded flat though they could not agree on how much (purple, orange and brown dots). The first 3 were done during those demo nights with the Ping reps and 50 other people wanting their attention so my time with them was extremely limited. Feeling frustrated I finally paid an instructor/Ping certified fitter for an hour of his time devoted exclusively to me! He fit me with purple dot (1 1/2 degree flat) ,1/2" short , aqua grip and regular flex. Ironically he was dead on the Ping web fit specs except they projected 1/4" short. Well over the course of 2 years after weighing all the input I had along with many searches here and access to a grass range stocked with a full Ping fitting cart. I finally sent my irons back to Ping in early March and chose red dot-2.25 degree change from yellow. Knowing in the past with my Eye 2's I was what used to be a solid red dot (1 degree flat) I decided I would rather err on the side of too upright (red dot is now 3/4 of a degree flat) since I would rather end up with a slight draw instead of a slight fade. Well I've been out with the clubs to the range 3 or 4 times now this spring and I know that I made the right decision going slightly upright because proper contact is a 10-15 yard draw and my miss is dead straight. My divots are all now consistently straight and even . Contact is much improved and distances are better. Now I know some of you are asking, why did it take 2 years? Well, I like to take my time to be sure. Fortunately I have a set of G15's black dot and Eye 2's red dot and a couple of individual Ping irons I could bend to flatter lie angles plus access to the fitting cart at the range, so I had a good basis for experimentation. So the moral of my story is no matter what some fitter or pro says you need, YOU know your own game better than any other. Give it some serious thought and trust your gut instincts.

I like bowling. I am not good at it nor do I play often. I never practice at it. However I can have a great time sucking at that sport while enjoying the company of friends and family. The same things could be said about baseball/softball, tennis, or just about any other sport, but then there is golf. I just despise playing bad golf. I have been playing for 35 years and I know what I am capable of so I refuse to accept poor performance. Therefore whenever my game is what I consider severely off, I hit the range hard and for whatever duration it may take. I'm just coming off a 6 week swing reconstruction and the results are not only impressive but repeatable so for the foreseeable future the range will be for warm ups and tune ups only. Bring on the course!

Cleveland golf bag help
dmnoland replied to 3putmcGee's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
You must not be looking too hard. First place I checked, pics and reviews. http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/cleveland-golf-cg-tour-stand-bag.html Your thread though brings up something on my wishlist. I love the looks of staff bags. I have several including the 2012 Cleveland (beautiful bag) but they are very impractical in everyday use. I wish that all the major golf companies would make a stand/staff version. I hope Cleveland's idea catches on. -
Does anyone know if the results of the consolation match go on the players record? May be a mental thing but I can go Eye 2-G10-G15-i20 , back and forth or in between without missing much. I have tried other brands (mostly GI) and not had the immediate success I've experienced with Ping. I would think that the ball change should have been postponed till Rory was more comfortable with his new sticks.

The bottom line is Love was betting on not losing instead of stepping on his opponents throat and winning. In baseball you don't bench your best pitcher in the middle of a no hitter. Sure, he might give up a hit or even a run in the 9th but you still get a win. While I realize that Phil wanted to get benched and needed rest, Keegan clearly said he would go all day. Why not put him with Tiger who was red hot on the back nines? Saturday easily could have been an 11-5 outcome and ultimately altered the final outcome.

The American loss may be embarrassing but this drunken European press conference is just pathetic. They can't pull together an articulate answer let alone thought.

The plus models are slightly bigger and have stronger lofts. You can go to Ping.com and click on classic irons to get the exact specs.

Need advice concerning Ping I 20 Irons
dmnoland replied to dirtdobber's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Don't rule out a split set, something like i20 L thru 7 iron and G20 6 thru 4 iron. If you are going with anything other than graphite I would get the cushin inserts in the new shafts. Then again there is nothing wrong with the G10's. I can score just as well (or bad) with them compared to my G15's or Eye 2's. -
Damn that seems like a really great price, wonder why they are so cheap. TGW has the same price with $7 shipping and zero tax. Plus the added benefit of not having to deal with Golfsmith!
