Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
zackr replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Well my last purchase's were a Callaway 48* Forged Wedge, 54* Bridgestone, 58* Bridgestone, 6 dozen Nike golf balls, a large bag of tees, a club cleaner set, and a new club brush. Need to take the wedges back to get new grips and lengthened. It was a good trip minus running out of time before I could have the work done on my clubs. -
One time, about 8 years ago, my dad, younger brother, and I are out playing this par 3 course. My dad and I both hit decent shots and are on the green, when my brother, 9 at the time, tees off. Being young he hits driver off the tee and there is water to the right of the hole. Well the ball heads straight for the water except it hits the drain pipe, pops up towards the green, lands and rolls into the cup. My dad and I just sat there looking astonished and my brother had no clue what he did. He maybe has played 10 rounds of golf since then, ans it still remains the craziest shot my dad and I have seen in our 40 years combined of playing golf.

I will be updating my handicap, actually in the process of it now after coming back to the forum for the first time in a while. I'll try and use a club more next time and not take a full swing and see how that goes. This is really one of the aspects of my game keeping me back.
-
I just use it because I like the ball sitting on the solid surface.
-
That is what I do. I typically just take a broken tee, place it in the ground so that the top of the tee is nearly in the ground.
-
When teeing it off, I place the ball on a broken tee pushed all the way into the ground so that the ball is barely off the ground. There is one hole I tee off with a 5 iron and I have no problems using it then, though I use a slightly higher tee and want a little fade on the shot.

Over the last few years I have really worked on my game, especially on my putting and driving with my driver and woods. These improvements helped tremendously, as I have improved my average score from the low 90's to mid to high 70's. However, what is keeping me back from improving even more is my approach on Par 3's. While I can hit irons off the deck, especially my mid-irons, when I use these on Par-3's I commonly hit the ball to far and to the right, or short and left. Most of the courses that I play, the Par 3's range from about 155 yards to 190 yards, leaving me hitting my 5 iron through 9 iron. While I can hit these well of the deck with a slight fade, off the tee I just can not do it, and this is keeping me from getting into the low 70's as I end up typically playing golf on Par 3's. What is my problem with hitting irons of the tee? What can I do to change this, as if i practice hitting similar shots at the range, I hit the ball straight and high.

i wear my costas but those are out of your price range so i agree with the poster earlier who said to check out some peppers, i liked mine -
Working on a golf course allows me to see a lot of cheating, the most common varieties being improving lies and dropping after ob.it is funny to see people say i got par when i have watched them hit two off the tee and then move there ball from the rough to the fairway, it cracks me up.

I don't know much about D-3 golf, but ma y kids at my school grew up playing golf, as many who attend my school come very affluent families, which might be why our team is good. Sorry, I was just going off my information I had.
-
Here is the way we do it where I work, we go out 30 minutes before the first tee time and we leap frog, one guy goes out on 1 and another on 2 and they leap frog each other until they are done.
-
Even at my D-3 school, the worst handicap on the team is just under 3, with the most being scratch golfers.

Been with my girlfriend for a year and a half now and looks like we might be picking up a set for her this weekend. She has been to the range and hit a few balls off one of my little brother's club and she has gone on the course with me, but I can't wait to get out and play with her.

Thanks guys. I certainly don't expect my next round or the next few t go like that, but it was just good knowing I can shoot that low.
-
cool. thanks for the info

Found a set for 100 bucks and are in really good condition, wanted to pick up just to do so, but first wanted to ask y'all for your opinion on the clubs.
-
i had a total of 27 putts and only missed one putt inside of 6 feet.
-
cut down on the putts and you will be solid. congrats to the round, i know how it feels to just get a personal best.

really what happened on the last few was fatigue had set in, i had been up since 5:30 and at work since 6 and went to play at 2. Granted I know the course well, it was just a round where everything fell into place. Every drive nearly found the fairway and everything off the green seemed pin high or playing with a favorable lie. I was not by myself, I played with the course superintendent, who shot a 69, and he was impressed with how I seemed to get the favorable lies and what not.

I didn't care about golf yesterday when I went out to play. After work yesterday I decided to play a quick 18, and it turned out to be the best round of my life. Shot at +2, 73 after my previous best being 80, 2 years ago. I think I played so well because I didn't care how I did. I had a horrible GIR yesterday but my chipping and putting was amazing, mainly because I wasn't upset after a bad shot. It felt unbelievable, especially after sitting even through the front 9.

I can not wait to attend the 2012 PGA Championship at the Ocean Course. Only a few minutes from my house so it will be nice. Though I have worked at a Nationwide tour event before and it was completely different from watching on tv.

I see the validity of some of your argument, however, I say keep the current standard in regards to the flag.
-
Yeah 270 is tough to believe. I can hit my 3 iron hybrid about 225 and my normal 3 iron about 210. And I hit my driver a solid 270, and my 3 wood 245-250 off a tee.

Completely agree with the last post about a gentleman's game. I just couldn't get into it and the ending I found very fake, not in a Caddyshack sense, but a convoluted sense.
