Had a pretty good round yesterday. Started out with a nice par save on #1. Then put my tee shot to 1 foot on the second hole (140y par 3), made the putt. The birdied 6 and 7 to be 1 under through 7. Thought I could be on for an awesome round but lost the plot on a couple of holes and ended up with a 78. Still pretty happy, my second best round ever. Bit of a pity to bogey the last two holes. Been doing lots of practice and finally paying off! Shot 93 two weeks ago so think my scores are going in the right direction!!

Well it has been about 5 months since I started evolvr and have been pretty happy with the results. Dropped my handicap down to 8.4 but I feel like things are just starting to click. Although I am training for an ironman in February now so golf is on hold till after then, so I have stopped evolvr. I will however most definately be starting it again in February. At first it was difficult to adjust to the style of teaching. Having in the past always had 1 on 1 lessons in person with an instructor it took me about 4 weeks to work out a way of putting into practice the advice from the video lessons. Since I did that I have made some decent improvements. My ball striking has improved immensely and am hitting a lot more greens. I still have those days where I am all over the place but they seem to be less regular now. I have also learnt a heck of a lot about my tendencies and how to fix them myself. Just yesterday I was at the range and was hitting it pretty crap. So I took a few videos and within 15 mins I was back to hitting nice little push draws with all clubs. Still working on getting the club to go out and up more (DTL) after I hit the ball so it appears closer towards my shoulder. Also my wrist is very cupped. It is a bit of a problem area that we tried to fix but I am not sure if it is possible for me to get it flatter. Five years ago I had a pretty nasty accident and broke it in 10 places. So it is not very strong when flat and also can be quite painful if I hit the ball fat or thin. So I think I have subconsciously developed the cupping as a protection mechanism to avoid any further injuries. However I think I may be able to find some middle ground. Only time will tell. Here is the latest videos:

For me The Shield still rates as the most OMG ending of any TV series. Lets see tomorrow if Breaking Bad can top that.

Man you really have a big chip on your shoulder! I don't know why you are hating on him so much. People are free to do as they choose. If you don't like what he is doing/who he is then don't read his site. I do agree that maybe he is a bit delusional but is he hurting anyone? I'd be surprised if he can shoot par in tournament conditions in 3 years time. But who knows, 3 years is a long time to get better. I have been where he is at the moment. Just started lessons with someone who has a completely new view on his swing. I think it is interesting and I enjoy reading his posts mainly cause it gives me something to do when I am bored at work -
Following up to my above post, I tested the camera at the range last night and I can confirm that the Casio FC150 does in fact have the ability to change the shutter speed manually. I set it to 1-2500 and removed virtually all of the blury-ness from the FO video and I was able to see the club/ball very clearly at impact. In auto mode this was never possible. The images were quite grainy but I think that had to do with the fact I was doing it at dusk and the lighting wasn't so great. So I am a very happy camper. I will get some better shots and show a comparison between auto and manual.

Thanks guys. I have been practicing pretty hard and seem to be having some success with the flat left wrist. As always I need to keep reminding myself to be patient. For the first week to 10 days after a lesson I always have some really bad range sessions but as I get to 2 weeks the changes usually begin to click and I start hitting some really nice shots. Played 18 yesterday and had an 81 off the back tees. Nothing too special but I was 5 over after 2 holes and then also had a triple on the 2nd to last hole. Three birdies was nice. Just need to tidy up my short game a bit cause that is where I lost some of the shots. Looking forward to Saturdays round. Will probably send some more videos through on the weekend.

Well I thought I would update this thread again. I have signed up for Evolvr and am really excited as to the improvements it will bring. I sent through my first videos this week (below) and have got my first lesson back. The instructor is having me focus on two things. Firstly to try and flatten my wrist at the top of my backswing, it is slightly cupped. Secondly he is trying to get me to feel like my back/bum is more closed to the target for longer to try and get my post impact position better, not exiting left so quickly as you can see in the photos. I have had a few days to practice this and am seeing some promising results. Having a little bit of a struggle getting my wrist in the right position but the feeling closed at impact seems to be helping improve my ball striking and getting a bit more of a consistent draw going. Will keep this thread up to date!

Well I finally made the plunge and signed up yesterday. I sent in some videos so am eagerly waiting the reply! Will report back how it goes. -
Well I made it yesterday and what a day!!! I left my motel at 5:30 and got back at 10pm. My legs are very sore today. The first rain delay was a bit of a bummer but it went by pretty quick as I was kept busy in the tents at the spectator centre (or whatever it is called) make sure you check them all out if it isn't too busy. The golf was pretty cool, got to see everything I wanted to see. The course however is terrible for spectating. I would say there are no great spots to watch although I would say on the far left side of the 17th grandstand is good (you can watch all of 17 and the tee shot on 18), also the green of 11 and tee of 12 are quite handy. After the second rain delay it was awesome cause 90% of people left so I was able to see wherever I wanted. The mud was a nuisance but only really bad in a few places. I'd say it will dry out pretty quickly today if the sun comes out. All in all an awesome day. What a brutal course!

Only 1 sleep to go, although probably be a fairly restless night if the forecast has any credibility to it! Going to try get there by 6:30 and try watch the groups go off on the back 9. Really want to see those guys hit driver, hard to know which hole will be best bet to see that. 18 will be a given, should be good to watch there.
-
Well that is a bit more reassuring, thanks! I guess the main concern is if there are any thunder storms then they will be fairly conservative when it comes to calling off play, but I guess usually they pass fairly quickly. Fingers crossed!
-
Sounds like it could be a bit of a debarcle! I have only got a ticket for Thursday. Looking at the latest forecast there are thunderstorms predicted? Do you locals think that will eventuate? Could that me a delay from mid morning or do you reckon the morning groupings will get through ok? I've travelled 10000 miles to get here and I'm so pumped but at the same time very nervous!
-
Yep, I have the FC150 and it works ok but it is really hard to see the shaft. I usually record at 120fps which improves things slightly over the higher speeds but it is usually very difficult to see the shaft around impact. Check my "my swing" thread and you will get an idea of what the videos look like. All of my recent vids are taken using that camera.

I'm so pumped. On Saturday my wife and I begin the 32 hour trip all the way round the world to NY and next Thursday I get to attend my first major. Can't wait. Who else is going to watch? I will probably get there when the gates open and stay till at least 6pm. Praying it will be a good day weather wise. Seeing as I can't go in the picking contest I will put it here that I reckon Jason Day will win.
-
Cool info. I'm coming all the way from New Zealand to come watch can't wait! Only going to the Thursday though. If you're going to be there all day maybe could work out a time/place to meet up?

The Dan Plan - 10,000 Hours to Become a Pro Golfer (Dan McLaughlin)

I used to be of the opinion that I thought he could do it (maybe not win on the PGA tour but get down to a solid +3 or so) but now I am unsure if he will even make scratch. Looking at his swing and his progression he seems to be stagnating and getting caught up too much with changing clubs, instructor etc and just not getting any better. I wish him all the best but I think that now it is turning into a bit of a circus that he is trying to milk because he doesn't have enough cash to keep himself going without some external money coming in and that is effecting his progress. -
Thanks for taking the time to have a look at things. You actually bring up a good point. I was working on that with my instructor two lessons ago and I think I got on top of the problem then and moved onto a few other little bits (trying to shallow out the top of my swing). But in the last week I may have resorted back to my old unhinging wrists at the top of the swing because I have become very inconsistent again. Here is a slightly newer video which is probably technically the best my swing has been. Still got a long way to go though! Tell me if you think this video improves over what you were seeing in the previous vid?

Just last week a guy at my club shot 83 off a 26 handicap. He is a genuine 26-30 hdcp but just had one of those crazy days. He even shot 39 on the back 9. He has a pretty solid game off the tee but his irons and short game are pretty average. He is one of the worst putters I have ever seen. Last year I was playing with him and he had a legit 6 putt. Just one of those days you have to laugh about. I bet this week he will shoot 110.
-
If I read your sequence of events right you weren't allowed to go back to the tee and hit another one after you had the whiff for your second shot. Once you did that you had to play from the spot in the trees.

Mine shipped yesterday so will report back when it arrives! Just wish I had an ipad so I could use it for the sync'd video recording. Have to wait a few months for the iphone app to be updated. -
traded in my mizuno mp 69s on titleist ap2 irons. LOVE THEM!
k14 replied to BrokenShaft's topic in Golf Talk
Yeah I agree, they are awesome clubs. Just sucks they are so expensive!! I went and hit the AP2, MP59 and Rocketbladez tour this week and just couldn't justify the $500 more for the AP2 so it was the Rocketbladez. Really easy to hit and quite forgiving. I reckon they were very close in feel to the MP59's although most people say the are at the harsher end for Mizuno. -
A guy at my club (build like a brick *hit house) has broken 2 or 3 clubs. He plays off about 20 but when he collects one it will go easily 330 yards, not necessarily at the hole though. I think one of the drivers he broke was an adams too. Possibly could be to do with a really aggressive swing and the carbon in the shaft is not up to the task. He's now got a Titleist 910 driver and has had that for a while without it breaking. Get a stiff (or x stiff) shaft and see how that goes.
