ProV1X compared to Nike One Tour
Paz replied to mitremark's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Probably not to be believed. My reasoning? The prov1x has a higher spin rate than the prov1. We all know titleist markets the prov1 as a higher spinning ball. Not to mention anyone who has even tried both the balls. They are very very different as far as spin and feel go. Must be wrong. -
Yes, yes, yes! This move has helped me so much.

How to get down lower than a 5 already!!!
Paz replied to enis750's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Some of the best advice I've heard on this forum. Especially the wagering. When you play for more than just lowering you're handicap, you'll actually now be competing for much more and be more focused. This is what a tournament will feel like, but tenfold. A dollar a hole skins? Can't get much better than that. Unless you have the money to play for 5 a hole :O. I start PW then go 7. I love hitting those irons as I often don't have much more than a 7 into the green unless its a par 4 like 450+. Treating yourself for success on the range is a good idea. Never tried it myself but maybe I will today. I warm up my stroke by picking a no break spot and make myself make 6/6 from 5ft then move back a putter length to 8ft and try to make 5/6. Then I'll move back 2 putter lengths and try to make 4/6. Then random putts as if I had just hit the green trying to get that birdie or up and down. I think a lot of people underestimate the importance of practicing green reading. But now that I read your idea, I'm thinking of making a game out of it. 5-8 ft for par 10-20 for birdie and try to see how under par I can get. Maybe 3 sets of 6. Assuming GIR are 9/18 (pretty good for me) then half the balls are for par and half for birdie. :) Then I work on lag putting from 30-50ft and trying to get up and down. I'm not laser accurate with my irons...yet. :) Oh, I forgot I'm not a 2.0 or below. -
haha that's funny. still probably 290 with a softer feel ball.

hahahahahahhaha. people who don't believe in luck are hilarious. that is the EXACT same thing as saying you don't believe in good fortune or bad fortune. thats what luck is. Someone who aims right at the flag but pull slices the ball all the way across the left side of the green off the right side. The ball proceeds to then bounce off a rock lying in the rough and pop up in the air, where it proceeds to roll in the hole. You are telling me that the hacker planned that shot? If so, you must be delusional. I've done my fair share of blackjack card counting. If you have been anywhere near that arena or anything else involving chance you will know fluctuations are as normal as mother nature herself and things usually will even out in the end. A blackjack card counter has to play for over 400 hours to have a 99.9% chance of doubling their starting bankroll. After a long enough period of time, things even out. The problem is, card counters have a 0.5-1% advantage at best, so evening out for them means coming out with 101% of the money they threw out on the table...the "action". I digress, but I'm just proving a point. Chance, luck, fortune...whatever. It exists. That's why I've nailed a 4iron 200y to 10ft before, but generally only hit my 4i 180. We can get lucky with perfect timing and contact. don't mean to be rude or anything, i just don't see how anyone can think luck does not play a role in fluctuation

How can you make short game practice fun?
Paz replied to khale's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Lately I've been trying to come up with effective drills that are fun because they give you some sense of accomplishment and improvement. For the past few weeks, every time I work on my putting I'll start with 5 footers. I use 6 balls when putting because the cup can hold that many. I think it's funny how so many people putt with 2-3 balls. That's understandable if that's all you have in the bag, though. Anyways, here's how I go about my short game practice. I start with 5 feet and try to make 6/6. If I can make 6/6, I move to 8 feet where I try to make 5/6 to move on to 12 feet. If I don't make at least 3/6, I move back to 5 ft. 12 feet = 2/6 to stay, 4/6 to move on. 15 ft = 1/6 to stay, 3/6 to move on. 20 ft = 1/6 to stay 2/6 to move on. 25 feet = 1/6 to stay. If I can get to 25 ft and make 2/6, I'll be done with that drill and move on to my 2nd putting drill. All of these putts are on the same line, I just move back and forth a few feet in intervals. It's the stroke and speed I'm working on. In my 2nd drill I will randomly place balls at random distances and locations and try to read the putts. The fun from this drill comes from knowing you've worked out your stroke before hand and now it's about judging speed and reading putts. You'll be amazed how much your green reading will improve from reading 50 practice putts from various distances every time you work on your putting. My final putting drill is lag putts from cup to cup 40-70 feet. Then trying to clean up, of course. If I can successfully 2 putt 6/6 balls from the shortest cup to cup, then I'll move to the next longest cup to cup (as long as no one is there ofc) and try for 5/6 balls 2 putted. Can you guess what I do next? Move to a longer lag putt? No way.. haha. After I finish that up (generally spend 15-20 mins doing that), I move onto chipping pitching. With chipping/pitching, I chip from a tight lie with lots of green to work with to start. 9/12 balls within 5 feet from about 50 feet from the hole, really working on nipping it good with lots of spin. If I can do that I'll move onto some pitches from the rough, 20y and then some from 40y. 6/12 within 5 ft. 40y pitches, 3/12. Then bunker shots. The bunker at my course is about 7 feet deep, so I'm just happy getting balls out and within 10 feet. I have no real goal for this one, just try to hit good bunker shots. Hope this helped. Try creating your own games. It's much easier to come up with games and more fun if you are practicing with a friend, although you might not get as much focused practice in. Anyways, there's only so much you can do to keep it fun. After all, the goal is to get the ball in the hole. So of course attempting to do just that from the same spot over and over is repetitive. Just keep challenging yourself. But if you are really bored, try practicing by placing balls randomly and hitting multiple different kinds of shots. That way you aren't used to playing the shot over and over and you can really get a feel for what your real shot might be like from that situation on the course. -
But to those that say lag is natural and shouldn't be "forced" well you have to be a little more detailed. Lag isn't "natural", it's achieved by a fast and efficient arm swing with strong wrist cock until the club shaft is parallel in the downswing. Think about it, if you swing you're hands and arms through fast and powerfully yet resist bringing the club head with it, what do you create? Lag..and power.. as far as club head speed is concerned, not so much ball striking ability. Is this more or less right? ...... Bueller?

Couldn't agree more. That's the one thing I try to avoid most in my life. People who's attitudes bring you down just by being around them. I can't stand when people come at me with smart ass condescending remarks, especially when it's something I genuinely need help with. Is it that hard for someone who actually knows what they are talking about to come on here and say "Lag really isn't that important, it's just an indication of how fast you're hands go through the downswing as well as how strong your wrist cock is and how long you can hold it for. Shaft flex also plays a role." That's as best as I can describe it (even though that answer is likely somewhat wrong and not that detailed). But at least I was trying to help you learn something without being condescending. Now, can somewhat who knows what they are talking about help this guy out? Give him any sort of feedback somewhat relevant to his original question?

Obviously if it was a serious round of golf you would indeed take the penalty but you didn't in anyway affect the outcome of your original ball. All you did was take ONE extra practice swing. Penalty worthy? In a casual round, I don't think so. I can take practice swings at rocks, does that give me a penalty? Actually it may in some situations. haha but you get what im saying. It's kind of similar to hitting a provisional off the tee only to find your first ball in play. You just got another free swing. But yeah, definitely mark your ball. I mark my b330-s by simply shading in the B and O in Bridgestone as well as the O in Golf with a green sharpie. It looks kinda cool and there's no actual dot on my ball.

Honestly if you want the best feedback from people here you should record multiple swings (at least 3) from down the line and face on, squared up camera angles. It wouldn't hurt to have a high fps camera, but the former suggestion doesn't cost any additional money and people here can help you out a lot more.

I don't really know what classifies as pure but I see it as hitting the ball first and getting a nice high controlled ball flight and lots of back spin.
-
It's also funny how when you try to say to yourself "smooth half swing" or something like that you make such good contact that it goes farther than your full shot slight mishit. I hit my 9-3 "half shot" 60 degree 75y when I pure it..I don't understand that to be honest.

She may have grown up around it and is experienced in the field but as far as how game is played I don't think she knows much. My statement still stands, she doesn't say much other than "Phil with a great birdie on (insert par and hole number)". Kelly Tilghman for example seems to have a better knowledge of how the game is played. Of course, she watches and announces a lot, but that's all I'm saying really. Win just doesn't say much or give any real insight.

I think I'd fall on the ground laughing.
