  1. At private and more upscale clubs, I've noticed two things: 1) Shirts must be tucked in, and 2) Hats must be taken off indoors. Most public, relaxed courses, you won't have to worry about this.
  2. It doesn't look good for me. Seems like my recovery is a bit slow and I'm still not able to put a lot of weight on my knee yet. I think I'll probably have to sit this one out.
  3. I agree that most slow players don't know they're slow. It's an awareness issue, IMO. This is slightly different from an education issue, because it's likely they know how to speed up, if necessary, and most of the time they know what a slow pace of play is. They simply don't think they're the problem, or realize that certain parts of their routine are a direct contributor to slow play. That is one of the reasons why it's actually the most difficult to tell these players to speed up. Because it's a shock to their system to realize they're the problem, and they might get defensive about it.
  4. That's kind of a meaningless statement. Are they the "most powerful" because of marriage equality trends across the country? Or because of growing media trends covering more LGBT issues? What real power does that 'bloc' have? Keep in mind that basic civil rights aren't (or at least shouldn't be, in a democratic republic) a manifestation of power.
  5. I'm about as progressive as they come, and I have a much bigger deal with Broussard and Watson's comments last year than I do with Patrick Reed. Now, maybe Mr. Reed is a full on homophobe, but the reality is that there are a lot of people out there that use that word and in no way use it as a homophobic slur. I used to use it all the time growing up, and never once thought of a gay person when saying it. I haven't said it in a while...maybe years, mostly because I feel uncomfortable now knowing that a group of people might presume I'm disparaging them. This is as much an issue of culture as it is profanity and homophobia. This also reminds me of the South Park episode about the word, which was hilarious. I looked at a few articles and it seems like his apology was sincere, but maybe elsewhere he has gone on rants about how gays need to die or repent for their sins, blah blah blah? I wouldn't know, so for now I give him the benefit of the doubt. Although I did find it hilarious that he consulted the wisdom of Bubba Watson in dealing with the issue. If anything serves as an indictment of him, it would be that. In the grand scheme of things, I believe there are bigger fights to fight. Making a huge deal about a guy using an insensitive, perceived slur against himself, and not allowing him to make it right, only serves to embolden the fundamentalist dominionists that forever crow about a war on religion and their freedom of speech being trampled on, as if they know what any of that actually would entail. I'd rather let him apologize, deal with the natural questions that internal turmoil that come his way, and instead focus on the much more focused and direct threat in the form of groups attempting to deny marriage equality and the like.
  6. I will keep this in mind! Technically, because of the microfracture procedure done on my knee, I can't do anything weight-bearing (including golf) until 12/4/14. So I'll see how I'm progressing over the next few weeks and let you guys know. I'd actually like to make this one!
  7. I don't really think there was any reason to point out it wasn't racist. That kinda defeats the purpose Anyway, I do believe that is an English thing. In America it would be "axe". Can I axe you a question? Probably has to do with the difference in accents and enunciation.
  8. 3 leg lifts. Four minutes each. Whew!
  9. Reminds me of a joke my friend messaged to me a few weeks ago that his mathematician brother in law told to him. Except he remembered it incorrectly. This is what he sent: "Three mathematicians walk into a bar. Bartender asks them, "does anybody want a beer?" The first mathematician says, "I don't know." The second also says, "I don't know." The third says, "yes."" Now, he's texting these to me to see if I get them, because he doesn't. Because I'm always talking about math and logic as keys to understanding the universe, blah blah blah, he thinks I will be able to help understand. But I'm a bit stumped on this one. But the more I look at it, the more I realize it's a logic riddle. It has something to do with the first two guys not knowing, leading to the third guy being affirmative. So now I'm wondering if he recited the joke correctly. So I google search it, and sure enough, one incorrect word changes the entire joke (well, really two, because they're actually supposed to be logicians, not mathematicians; although that's not really significant). And so it goes: "Three logicians walk into a bar. Bartender asks them, "does everybody want a beer?" The first one says, "I don't know." The second also says, "I don't know." The third says, "yes."" One word makes a big difference. I messaged him back, "you not only suck at math, but communications." Of course, the funny thing is, if you change the word to "anybody," you essentially come up with the opposite form of the joke. http://spikedmath.com/445.html http://mrburkemath.blogspot.com/2011/05/coffee-logic.html
  10. I would agree with most of that, but I also think that's why, when he's not swinging well, he falls so far out of contention in a way that Tiger didn't as often as Rory has (through this point in their careers)*. Basically, Rory's success is heavily reliant on that driver because he does hit it so often. Tiger had a bit of a higher floor because he would/could go back to the stinger. Granted: it isn't a great time to talk about Rory's floor being lower when he took two majors this year, but I'm speaking in relative terms. *I'll disclaim that I haven't reviewed all of the data to know if it flies in the face of this statement.
  11. Lots of stationary bike-riding for me. Hit a low of 167.2lbs last week, even though I can't run anymore. Lots of wall-sits and upper-body/core exercises lately have kept me feeling like I'm still working out.
  12. It will have to be next year for me, guys. Knee surgery coming up next week will leave me out of commission for a few months.
  13. Looks like I missed out on the nominations! Oh well, good luck to both nominees and I hope you get a lot out of it. I can honestly say that it did help me a lot, but unfortunately I can't follow through with it due to an upcoming knee surgery (non golf related). But as soon as I'm able I plan on getting back to what was taught and putting up more videos to show real progress. A word of advice is to make use of the mirror at home before going to the course. Having the video camera is great, but you can spend an hour doing something the wrong way and you won't know until you get home to view the video or get the feedback from posting the video. Also, upload all the videos to youtube and create a playlist so that you can reference and note your progress chronologically. I think it will pay off when attempting to revisit the lessons later or after time away from practicing (like when I start over again after I'm cleared). Last but not least, I don't think I ever formally thanked Eric and Mike for their time and contribution with this, so thank you both! I really appreciated it.

  15. You guys will have to count me out. I cannot swing a club right now and may be coming off of knee surgery sometime around this date, depending on what the MRI shows on Friday. Maybe later this year.
  16. Where do you hail from?
  17. I was hoping to post a end-of-lesson update, however I did something to my knee at the gym a couple days ago and the doc wants me to take a couple more days off. I don't think I could make a regular swing right now. As long as there isn't any swelling I should be fine in a few days to post some follow-up stuff.
  18. I'd love to be able to simply make up an alternate reality myself sometimes. It would help some days pass by easier.
  19. Real estate is precious and high priced in San Fran. Some of the highest value per sq ft in the nation, if not the highest. I doubt you will find driving ranges that cater to the
  20. I'll work on that today and tomorrow. I don't think it's a translation issue as much as it is me being able to get my body to do the things I see. When I focus on the lower half, my head and arms start doing whatever they want, and vice versa. I feel like I'm starting to understand it finally for the first time, though. Understanding how the pieces work together. And I feel like I have things I can work on for the next few months. I'll also focus on the grip. It actually made a huge, immediate difference even though it's still too much on top. On Friday I was shocked at how awkward I felt but how much more solid contact I was making. I gotta say that I feel bad I spent basically 2-3 weeks wasting most of the instruction by not even getting set up properly! But it seemed like every time I hit a bad shot, I would square up my stance more and grip over the top more. I do have one question though: can all of the pieces I'm working on be translated pretty easily towards the driver swing? I haven't touched a club other than my 9i in a few weeks, and I was already hitting it (driver) really poorly. I'm just curious if there is anything different I will need to know for the driver swing.
  21. While I still may not be loading enough weight on my left knee (?), adjusting the grip made a world of difference over the past two days in terms of making contact with the ball. Typically I've been making solid contact (where the ball goes 30+ yards) around 20% of the time, but the past two days it was more like 70%. It feels really weird still, but I've been trying to point the "V" of my right hand extremely to the right. It still works it's way left just before takeaway, but the above image I think is an improvement from Wednesday. What do you think?
  22. I admire the patience of you guys as instructors
  23. Slow, ugly and frustrating. I can post video from today and yesterday, but it just looks like more of the same. Most of the time at the range is spent recording myself going through the movements in slow motion, looking at the video of Mike doing the same things, and not understanding why it looks so effortless for him and all of my motions are herky-jerky. It's like none of my body parts want to work together on this. Whether I slow it down to a crawl and just hit dribblers all day or go around half speed, the movements just don't feel right. Edit: video for the hell of it
  24. That's mostly what I was getting at. And you're probably right.
  25. Any specific plan for adding back the calories (i.e., type of calories and foods)?
