New Launch Monitor and Sim From SwingLogic
DoubleAce replied to DoubleAce's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Lol. I know exactly who you are (and no I'm not aligned with SL). Just remember the identical sour grapes from your Kickstarter comments. And then the FB group. SL posted the email exchanges with you for everyone to see. And the only one making an ass of themselves was you. So much so that you managed to get booted from the FB group (which SL has no ownership of btw). Which is quite a feat. So you created an account on this infrequently traveled corner of the internet because you ran out of places to piss and moan. Bravo! You truly are a child among men. Since this post will probably be disappeared. I'll post another update on my impressions after thus far. Everything from the good to bad. -
Alternative to Sharpies for Marking Balls?
DoubleAce replied to DoubleAce's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Cool. Will look into those as well. I've been really happy with the Marki permanent markers. Much more vibrant and better coverage than sharpies. While also holding up better. -
All I have to do is post something, regardless of substance, and here you come like a moth to a flame. Am I not entitled to an opinion on the man? He used to be a hero in my book. Especially growing up. Had the Tiger head cover, the red shirts, even gave the dude a high five at Firestone. But he eventually showed himself as a complete dirtbag. And I'm very much a content of character type guy. So he's an absolute zero to me these days. And LOL at the majors not being wall to wall tiger coverage. Even the online featured groups are guaranteed to cover him Thursday and Friday. And if he makes the cut, extend that coverage through the weekend. You can live in your world. I'll live in reality. Yes, he strung together four good rounds in 2019. Played better than I could for sure. But that's also the only major he's won in the past 14 years. So trying to make it out like he's still a headline contender is laughable.

I'm OK with this. Means the TV broadcast won't be wall-to-wall coverage of a guy who probably won't finish in the top 25, or even make the cut for that matter.

Alternative to Sharpies for Marking Balls?
DoubleAce replied to DoubleAce's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
That's a nice idea, but not sure the marker that comes with it is any different. I ended up receiving the Marki brand permanent markers. They're much better than Sharpies in a few ways. Still not technically "permanent". But dries much faster, goes down better, and lasts longer. And the colors seem to be more bold. -

Will be interesting to see if this sparks others in the market to pursue designs with dual sensors. I'm pretty much with you 100% that it seems like a no-brainer. Especially considering how well their micro sim works for what it is. I have to imagine this will be a considerable step up over that. -

I can tell you from firsthand experience, their return policy is super easy. Had a battery issue when I gave their micro sim a shot. Was even encouraged to try it out and then just return it to wait for this Hybrid X3 release. So the way I figure, it's a no lose situation. But if this thing proves to compete with units in its price range, it could get into that R10 unobtanium realm real quick. And I don't see the pricing getting any better either. -

Alright, with that all out of the way. Looks like they're up to around 400-ish backers and 10x over their goal. Anyone else take a shot at being an early adopter? Or perhaps even some folks who got their hands on a pre-release device? -

We could go round and round with semantics all day. I think we know where everyone stands. So why don't we leave it at that? The product will be hitting the market soon enough. And I think we can all agree it'll sink or swim on its own merits and real world performance. -

I quoted you verbatim. But, no worries, you've expounded on your position in further posts, so I get where you're at. No affiliation at all. And I'll be the first to say if it doesn't live up to expectations. I just think they deserve a fair shake. And to keep it in the context of comparably priced units. -

So any product you've ever had an issue with is immediately discounted and written off? If that's the case, we should write off GC Quads and BLPs while we're at it. What matters is how a company deals with a lemon that makes it out the door. Which SwingLogic did a phenomenal job in rectifying. And I didn't choose Bill's wording. "At $300 and requiring only 3’ for a radar unit, I don’t think it’s going to be very accurate." Sure he opined. But he asserted that opinion by only calling out the price and misconstruing the radar's distance requirement. And completely overlooking their existing sensor tech. I'll definitely post feedback. And I have no issues calling out a product if it doesn't meet expectations. BTDT. Not sure I'll make the 4 hour hike all the way to PA. But I can compare against Trackman and GC Quad locally. I would like to find comparable priced units to test against too, but don't know anyone with a Mevo, R10, or SC300i. Lol. Because a bluetooth speaker is the pinnacle of engineering and likely drained their R&D budget. Doesn't the SC300i have a speaker? I mean, you can be skeptical without overstating things. Beyond the above, why not just all illustrate that we can hold our opinions loosely? I ordered my unit. The Kickstarter isn't even an hour old and it's already exceeded their goal by 5 times. It actually looks like they even increased their early bird spots to accommodate demand. So it seems that between existing SwingLogic customers and others, there's a lot of enthusiasm and optimism around their new device. Delivery window looks to be June. Will update as soon as I'm able. -

Correct. But pointing out it won't be accurate because it only requires 3' was a little disingenuous. Given the 3' isn't a constraint, but a starting point. Not to mention it's only half of the hardware collecting data. -

Day 42 Continued with rotation drills. Fortunately did this early in the day. As I broke my f'ing big toe this evening 😡. Dropped a 3/4" sheet of mdf on it doing a project in the garage. Thinking I'll be out of commission for a bit, short of putting and maybe some chipping. Which I guess isn't the worst thing in the world. Just sucks. Was really looking forward to this week's league. Especially after breaking par on the executive course earlier this weekend. But I'm not gonna push it. Gonna call my Dr. tomorrow to see if there's anything I should do. Aside from avoid our Mastiff / Cane Corso who's a notorious foot stepper 🤣.- 16,950 replies

Seeing as their micro sim (club attached sensor) is already fairly accurate, I'd suspect adding a radar component to the mix certainly won't hurt. And I don't see where it says it stops tracking shots after 3 feet. But for people who are space constrained, only requiring 3' in a radar based unit could be a big deal. As far as "playing" without a ball, that's basically what the prior slx micro sim provided. Where it is more of a video game if one elected to use it without a club. But with real balls, that same sensor was pretty spot on with distance, ball flight, club and ball speed. So, again, adding a radar unit in conjunction with their club based sensor can only improve upon the overall data. -

I realize this got no traction initially. But for anyone interested, SwingLogic will be dropping this for pre-orders early in the week. No idea what the timeline is for delivery though. I plan to give it a shot. If it turns out to be comparable to the Mevo or R10, I'd imagine it'll do really well. -

Day 38-41 Continued to work on rotation and weight shift drills through the middle/end of the week. Today I took my mom golfing as a belated Mother's Day gift. Also brought my son along for his first round ever. Played a par 3 course. Shot one-under. Which I'm pretty proud of given that it was a SLOW round with a 5 year old. Struck the ball really well, and putting was solid. All the work I put in putting has definitely paid off. Back to the days when I was automatic from 5 feet and in. Was really proud of the little guy. He didn't once show any signs of mental fatigue or boredom. He even got a round of applause from a group of 8 guys after his tee shot on the last hole. And no, we weren't holding up play. This particular course has added a soccer type course that runs in tandem with their traditional 9-hole par 3 course. Kind of interesting and hadn't seen anything like that before. Essentially 18 holes with a soccer ball. Where the "hole" is essentially a 55 gallon drum embedded in the ground.- 16,950 replies

Day 36 & 37 Forgot to post an update yesterday, but did practice. Worked on rotation mostly yesterday. Nothing crazy. Played today. Driver swing is back. Struck the ball well. Putted just fine. But the greens just weren't rolling nicely. Bumpy. They apparently had treated them and didn't cut them. Shot +3 this week. Will take it.- 16,950 replies

Day 35 Worked more on rotation drills with irons. Still feeling a little under the weather so didn't want to push it too much. Also only working on the backswing at the moment. As I don't want to go too crazy with major swing work all at once.- 16,950 replies

Day 34 Some more work on rotation and stoping the sway. Irons and driver. Irons feel great. Driver just isn't quite there yet. Although the last 5 balls or so I stumbled upon a good swing thought and companion motion. Hit those 5 really well. Going to work more on it tomorrow.- 16,950 replies

Day 33 Hit some more drivers today. Also took some video of my swing. As my distances with my irons the other day were a little off. And I had a feeling I'd developed a little bit of a sway with a prior swing thought I'd been working on. Sure enough, I was getting more "armsy" and was sliding through the shot. While my contact and shot shape/consistency has been unaffected, I wanted to stop and rectify it immediately. So did some drills, mostly on the backswing for today. Worked more on rotation with the shoulders and hips, just letting the arms come along for the ride. While I'm in between launch monitors, I pretty quickly noticed a difference in the compression of the strike. Video this evening was much closer to what I wanted to see. Will continue to work on that to engrain it. Fortunately, being a feel player, once I get the right swing thought down, it doesn't take much to make adjustments. Although I suppose that's a gift and a curse in some regards.- 16,950 replies

Day 32 After a terrible day off the tee yesterday, I went back to hitting drivers this afternoon/evening. Definitely think that the thousands of iron shots over the past month or two resulted in swinging driver like an iron. But now that it's officially nice out, I can get more driver work in. Struck it pretty well. Still shaking little of the rust off. But markedly closer to normal than it was yesterday.- 16,950 replies

If you can't figure out a visual solution, maybe it's time to think outside the box? Did a quick search and found these that allegedly are nearing production. Sounds like they'll be pricey, but the value may be there for you. BBall GPS Golf Ball Rick Shiels did a review, and unfortunately as a ball, they seem to leave a lot to be desired. But, again, is it worth it to be able to easily find the ball? It also looks like OnCore was working on one as well. But it's not really clear if the project is just stalled, or canned altogether. If all else fails due to availability, price, or quality, maybe you can be a pioneer in this space. Create your own solution and become filthy rich in the process. I suppose another option would be buying something like a Rapsodo that tracks ball flight. May not be accurate on every shot, but should be better than nothing. Just might be a little clunky using it during the round. I'm sorry to hear about your condition. I had a vision scare a couple months ago, and it was both frustrating and scary. Hope you find a solution.

I'd think match play is the way to almost guarantee it stays pretty competitive. So you're on the right track there. Maybe do a hybrid with points. Something like 9 hole increment matches. Winner of each 9 gets a point. But don't fully reset. Second nine is a "clean" match. But still keep a running total for 18. So essentially 3 points up for grabs each full round. I like boogie's idea to throw in some side challenges. Might be cool to do a half point for each birdie. One point for eagle. Maybe something for par streaks? Half point for closest to the pin on par 3s, regardless of whether you even hit the green? Although with that approach, unlike traditional match play, you'd still want to putt everything out. I can tell you that even for a seasoned player, 54 holes of match play can get a little tiring/taxing. Especially on day two with 36 holes. So the side challenges would help keep the fun up. Will be curious to see what you come up with and how it goes!
