  1. If you get the chance you should jump at it. My work is crazy and I wondered if I could do it too but you find time. It is very rewarding and you learn a lot about yourself as well.
  2. I hit one about 310 once. I was hitting it solid so I was playing from the tips at the local muni. I was on #1 with a bunch of high school kids behind me waiting to start their league play. I hit one of those "I never felt it leave the clubface" shots and it took off like a rocket. It went at least 300 in the air because it cleared a bunker that started at about 280 and was at least 15 yards deep. The kids were all mumbling about the shot and I walked off like I did it all the time.
  3. I was wondering if we had any Cub Scout Leaders in our group. I just took on the role of Den Leader for my son's Wolf Den and I am actually pretty excited about it. I was a Boy Scout when I was a kid and now it is good to be able to be on the other end of it.
  4. Get your weight more forward with your iron shots. You could do this by moving the ball back in your stance or a greater shift in weight. This way you can trap the ball and compress it against the ground while hitting down on it.
  5. Marketing hype or not, the principles that they cover work. And they work in short order. After reading the book and watching some videos I can see portions of the swing that I had stumbled upon in the past but had never put them all together. And I have said before I am not a fan of "marketing hype." Even if all of this was basic swing concepts (which some are) this program lays them out very well. I had seen the commercials a million times and I finally just went out and copied what I saw. Crisp clean contact with the ball, more stability in my swing, the ability to put a high draw on the ball for once. I know some folks do not need it or believe in it, but this is definitely a valid method.
  6. If Tiger said, during an interview, anything at all about SnT there would be a flood of people buying the DVDs. Probably to a point that they would be back ordered. Even if he never won a tournament again which is preposterous.
  7. Club head speed and consistent contact. Something else you may want to look into is if the range you use has limited flight balls. They will really fool you on distance since they tend to die at their apex. Definitely not your only problem but it could be a contributing factor. Gary
  8. I just got to the part in the book that covers ball position. I have been playing the ball too far back. I will have to adjust when I get to the range next time. I may not be pushing my hips out enough on my drives either. Straight arms!!!! I love the way I can fade the ball now!!!
  9. First off, I have to say that I am very skeptical about "radical swing changes." That being said I was a big fan of the Gravity Golf back in the 90s. I have been watching the SnT demos on YouTube and I went about trying to copy it. So a few days ago I try it on the range and I was making much better contact with ball with the SnT style. It really made a loud crack when I contacted the ball and they were beautiful high draws. So I went and ordered the videos and I bought the book at the local books-a-million. I went out to the range again today and I was able to hit my 4 wood higher and straighter than I ever have. Here is were I am having problems: My mid to short irons are drawing up to 40 yards. I hesitate to call it a hook because my hooks have always been low duck hooks. My driver swings are almost all pushes, and I mean like 40 yards the other way but perfectly straight. I know the book will fix me (I think) but can I get some tips because I really like this swing and I want my wife and sons to learn it as well. (Plus I have a tournament coming up and I can't just swap around swings like others can)
  10. I have been stationed at Vandenberg AFB that is not too far from there. We drove up there and I got a picture under the arch and did the 17 mile drive (backwards to beat the traffic). It was great. I am looking at getting stationed out there again and I told my wife that it can be a present to myself when I make Captain. Can't wait.
  11. I have a Nike VR Split in a 2-iron. Hard for me to hit. I like my 4 wood. PM me if you are interested.
  12. I have Tour Tempo. I have only hit balls with it once and it threw me for a loop. At times I could hardly hit the ball. I guess if I can get myself in the tempo they suggest it will be worth it but for now I feel like I just started playing for the first time!!! The long game tones can be beeps or a voice "Swing, Set , Through!!!". Or you have some musical type tones to choose from. Long and short game tones come in 4 speeds. I do really like the short game tones though. One thing I don't like is that if I lock the iPhone the app stops (I have an old 3G model).
  13. I don't get how anyone could say they could not afford a decent pair of shorts. If they can afford greens fees they can buy shorts. I think there is a little bit of "majesty" left in this game so I like to dress like it. I think that is why I would like a CC since they would enforce the dress code. The base course doesn't cause they just want to make money too.
  14. So for those who are CC members, what added benefit do you have besides "prepaid greens fees?" How much less crowded is your course compared to a public one? I imagine you certainly pay a pretty penny for that privilege right? I can see how you would be upset to open it to the public. Being military I get access to the base course and they recently allowed civilians to start playing it for money reasons. I can say that I was less than thrilled. It was hard enough to deal with the retirees who are there all the time. Of course I will be one of those guys eventually! Oh and I don't like seeing cargo shorts on the course either! And if I were in a CC I would look to have the dress code spelled out to eliminate them and un-tucked shirts. Just my opinion and personal preference.
  15. Scratch too. I really want one.
  16. I am starting to get a lot of one brand but not by design. I won a set of irons of my choice so I picked out the Nike VR Splits. I sold my R7s since I thought I didn't need them. Well I realized how much I missed them so I just got another set on the bay. I just got a TM 4 wood and I hit a TM R9 driver that just went down in price so I guess I will be getting that too. I don't like seeing the posers who are all decked out in one brand with the staff bag to boot. But it is justice to see them duff their tee shots with their $400 driver.
  17. Now I have worked with the Kiwis. Those guys are crazy. No fear and willing to do whatever it takes.
  18. To be accurate, the only teams who are Special Forces are Army 18 series soldiers. Green Beret types. Every other unit is considered Special Operations Forces (SOF) and that does include the Rangers and now the Marines have a corner of SOCOM. MARSOC Marines include some Force Recon elements and they are considered SOF.
  19. My cousin was CIA. If you remember he was the first American killed in Afghanistan, Mike Spann. He was a Marine Captain. We didn't even know he was in the CIA until after. What I hated was that I was on my way over there when I got the news. They wanted to send me home but I refused. Either way, he did great things.
  20. Sweet. OK hijack over. Sorry OP.
  21. Good stuff. I might recognize his name if I saw it. I worked with some retired guys from that era. One had quit a few Silver Stars from rescues.
  22. No way. My heritage! We all miss the Pave and its mission. They are all in museums or the boneyard now. Was he a 21st SOS guy or Air Rescue? Very cool either way. Those guys had balls like you wouldn't believe.
  23. I was a Pave Low Flight Engineer (remember Blackout from Transformers?). I carried these guys into combat. Make no mistake I am no door kicker. I had a lot of STS friends though. Great guys. I really loved my part of Special Ops cause I got to work with them all. Oh and I was at Hurlburt Field. SOCOM is at McDill but no tactical teams. Also to give proper credit, a DEVGRU member would be up there a bit closer. Call that Nationwide to PGA.
  24. I will say this. If for instance I have ever met these type people (and I cannot confirm that I have) I would say that these are the most professional, dedicated, capable, and lethal force I have ever encountered. Ever. They would not always be my favorite for reasons I can't get into, but I have to give them the credit they deserve. It is truly amazing to see them in action. Think of it like watching your average golfer and then watching a tour pro. Yeah it is that much difference. To get on a team like that if you were a SEAL or SF, it would be like going from the Nationwide to the PGA tour. Heck maybe even a mini-tour to the PGA.
  25. I spent the better part of my Air Force career in Special Operations and I would say that the answer is, "It depends." Each unit has unique capabilities and fans of each unit are going to say they are best. I have worked with all the teams that you listed except Marines and I have to say that once you learn them you can spot each type of team member easily. My Masters Degree (while still in work) is in Asymmetrical Warfare so basically Special Operations as well. I have studied successes and failures and each team can be put in both categories. If you wanted me to pick one however I would have to pick the team that has unlimited resources and very limited rules of engagement. While I can't say who that is trust me they are out there and they are your worst nightmare. I have seen SEALS sink paint cans floating in the ocean from a moving helicopter at night with a bolt action rifle. I have seen Special Forces take down entire enemy compounds in combat at night on NVGs and never have to fire a shot. And the place was loaded with baddies and weapons. I have seen Rangers decimate an airfields defenses in seconds and take control without losing a man. I have seen XXXXX do XXXXXX while deployed to XXXXX if you know what I mean. They are all capable in their own ways so I could only answer your question if you ask about a specific skill set.
