  1. This is true. I'm almost certain that if your sponsored by TM you are obligated to play the latest equipment, no ifs, ands, or buts!
  2. I could'nt vote because my choice of mid priced ball was not on the list. Try the PENTA 3 ( not the 5) it'll surprise you.
  3. I like the look of the Nike driver, I'm really curious how the driver feels with a hole in the back!?! I'm going to try it as soon as it comes to my neck of the woods, and I do like it more than TM's (terrible)offerings of this year. That's coming from a guy who played TM drivers since the R9 came out, but i have to say that new R1 looks like a lolly pop, and i cant believe pro's use it...
  4. Since I'm a machinist ill give this a try. Every club is made in China.(I think) I dont know what OEM, and JDM mean in terms of club manufacturing, I think this is what your getting at. OEM ( original equipment manufacturer), and JDM ( Japanese domestic market) I dont know what that has to do with club making. 1020 carbon steel is soft ( that's why forged clubs get dinged up easy in the bag), so yes, you can forge softer steel like 1000 carbon steel ( if it exists) but why? Such low carbon count in could allow for more impurities in the steel, possibly decreasing the quality of the product, and one wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two, and if they did. Possible problems with grooves wearing extremely fast, and also face the possibility of the lie/loft going out of wack every few rounds. I'm guessing ALL the big club makers would have done this by now if it made any sort of a significant difference. Hope that makes some sense.
  5. +1 I used to use the Golflogix app for my Iphone with good success. I prefer my Bushnell V2 because lasers display one number. As stupid as it sounds i prefer to see one number and think about one number while deciding on my club choice. Either way a laser or GPS. Both are good, and can help lower scores while maintaining pace of play.
  6. My 3 wood.
  7. Thx for correcting me spelling Im not bashing people for wanting to put a name on their bag. I just dont understand it. I guess im a traditionalist, and all that matters to me is what score i write down at the end of the day.
  8. Well, at least i would have to open my mouth for people to realize that im a idiot, but as soon as i see a golfer with a name on their bag- hitting a slicing 200yrd drive- everyone can tell your a complete loser.
  9. I nice bag is a nice bag, and there's nothing wrong with looking good. It might even help, some say when you look good you feel good, but the name thing is too much.
  10. I filled out the survey. I work at a course, and i get stuck doing marshal duties from time to time. I find most golfers are good about their pace (even bad golfers). The course is public and the only time pace of play gets pretty slow is after 3pm. That's when all the duffers show up that would rather drink then golf, and they don't care about pace, or rules, or anything for that matter, their there to drink on the course, but they payed, so i cant do much about it.Most of the membership base plays earlier in the day, and the staff doesn't care about slow play when no members are present, and if the drunks aren't damaging the course, all is well. I guess what I'm trying to say is that......ignorance is why slow play exists. The same people who play slow, drive slow, and usually cant tell the difference between their ass and a hole in the ground.
  11. +1 Well said. I work at a course and see this all the time (drives me crazy). I would rather show up on the tee box with some old rusty blades, a no name driver with a decrepit bag, and shoot 2 under. Unfortunately, most people i see show up with the hottest- fill in the blank- clubs and shoot 95 with mulligans, and just embarrass themselves on the first tee box when they put a dummy mark on their brand new 910F driver....
  12. My Vote: No, Unless you pro, its silly I very highly debated topic in my circle. Unless you have game, so one needs to know your name. I play with + cap's that played D1 on scholarships, and they were given bags with their name on it, so at tourney's people knew who they are. Also, Do you really want the extra attention on the first tee, i doubt it. When they walk on the tee box people stop and notice, but they bomb their drives 300+ down the fairway. If you have a your name on your bag, you better be able to shoot par 9/10 times! Pardon my vent.
  13. Sounds like your casting from the top, and using hand-eye coordination to get the club to the ball. Without a pics or video. Its a guess using your cap as a benchmark.
  14. Pro V1X A golf ball is a golf ball until your 60 Yards and in. Ill loose 2-4 strokes a round if play a another ball because i know exactly how much the Pro V1x will roll or bounce from short shots. Any other ball would require months of practise to figure out its tendencies. Look at Rory, he's going to Nike gear now. All he's worried about, is the switch to the Nike ball from the titleist ball he played since he was a junior, and I'm sure he's not talking about how the ball will effect his distance. Its all about the short games ladies, that's why the soft covers where designed. I can get a rock to stop and drop from 125, but not even tiger can get a Top Flight to check from 25 yards... Pick wisely...
  15. Only forged clubs can be bent, cast 17-4 stain stainless might not allow that much bending. Also, any club fitter should have the stuff to bend irons.. If he doesnt, i wouldnt trust his expertise.
  16. Softer shafts slow the take away, and help a more sweeping move with woods/long irons giving more feedback to the player, were as a too stiff shaft can make a person grab and lift the club in the back swing causing problem's. A softer flex also lets you feel the shaft load. This can help a OTT guy feel the casting more than a stiff shaft. Casting and then trying to let your hips catch the arms make's the shaft do all sorts of things. Thats why i feel that golfers think they need a stiffer flex. I see pro's using S flex in some cases, especially in woods with high swing speed that most golfers cant achive, and still high caps insist on swinging a too stiff shaft, and maybe thats why they never can achive their true potential.
  17. D'oh newtogolf- I must of posted right as you did. Great minds think alike! LOL
  18. Tidy freak, Bullit. You guys live where golf can be played and practiced all year round? only reason why i ask. Is that i live were i have no choice but to take 5 months of golf because it snow's a sh*t ton here dung the winters, and you'd think that would kill my game, sort of a reset; however, that never happens. It seams the lay off helps my game. A break from the game will do wonder for some. Its worth a shot.
  19. Since someone sympathized with you, i wont :) Your problems are normal, its golf, look at the countless number of pro's that had major problems within there career, and there the top 1%. The problem i see with golfers. Is most of them think golf owes them something, just because you have the equipment, and the unrelenting love for the game doesn't mean that you should be automatically good. It not a easy game, and if you try to listen to everyones opinion you ll be more confused and lack more confidence then ever. Don't buy new gear, don't read more forums, find a teacher that makes sense when they explain the swing. Play rounds with him and find YOUR way to play the game!
  20. Interesting, with the rumor of Nike signing Rory and 3 other guys. I doubt Cink "quit" Nike. Plus, Cink's done.
  21. I'm in Canada. I can't play or practise in the winters. I do make swings infront of a mirror during the winter days, to keep a feel that i work on during the season, but thats all. During the golf season i play 2-3 times a week, and i practise 6-7 days a week. I'm not set to a routine at the practise range. I always work toward my weaknesses when i practise. Which are long irons and driver. My 125 and in game is my strength, so i generally wouldn't hit more then 1-2 balls with wedges, but spent the majority of the bucket hitting 3 iron.
  22. Don't forget, you can take it away on the back swing on plane, but if your first move is to cast the club (even a slight bit) will cause a OTT move. Make sure the sequencing is correct. A good swing plane only stays on plane when you can start the down swing with the proper parts. The rest just happens. Have you ever read about hip-to-shoulder disassociation? I really struggled with OTT move my my longer irons, and woods until i read that i need to let the hips work, without getting the shoulders involved until is was their turn in the sequence.
  23. Classic! Working out might be overrated by some, but his ability to bounce back will depend on how hard he works in the gym rehabbing the injury. If done right, we might see him next year competing on the euro tour. Im a fan a Miguel; however, i cant see him spending much time doing the dirty work to get back to form. He's almost 50, what more can he accomplish that he hasnt tried in the last 20+ years. i see lots of cigars and scotch on the rocks in the " mechanics' future. Lucky guy!
