  1. I means he cut an 1" from the tip of the shaft. The shaft does get larger as you go towards the butt, but most shafts have a parallel section at the tip that is the same diameter for a few inches. Tipping the shaft will make it play stiffer, spin less, and often make the shaft load and feel different than stock.
  2. Putter. Right now it's an old ping zing 2 with an old crusty chapped-lip grip. Belongs to my dad (he's letting me borrow it) and is bent retardedly upright, like 4 or 5 degrees. I'll have to make it work until I can pick up a new anser next month.
  3. On an average day I swing around 110mph. It was the alpha version of the RIP which is the firmest and lowest launching RIP shaft. You may have tried the beta or gamma version, which I also tried. Like overcooked spaghetti compared to the alpha. Also, I hit the 'real' RIP versus a RIP that came stock in an adams driver, big difference between the two. Anyway I'm thinking about an ahina as well, how does it compare to the RIP in your opinion?
  4. Thanks guys, went and hit the RIP yesterday and really liked it. Hit it on the sim and not a launch monitor but the ballflight looked to be good, penetrating flight and lots of roll. But, this shaft is stiff! Tried the 70S and it feels and plays like an X. Anyway, can't get a hold of an hd6 to demo anywhere! Asked GG and all sorts of pro shops and stores but nothing.
  5. That, is some hardcore club porn right there. I have a stiff shaft.
  6. I'm in the market for some low launch/spin shafts and am torn between the Aldila RIP and the Matrix HD6. I've heard that the HD6 will launch lower and spin less, but I've also heard the other way around. Has anybody had experince with either of these shafts (or both) and what do you think of them. What kind of launch conditions do they produce? Do they play softer/stiffer to flex? How do they feel? Thanks for any input
  7. You're the one who had perfect numbers with the 7.5 but wanted a new driver from the other thread, right? Or am I mistaking you for someone else. Take it back, and get your 7.5 back. It may be "outdated", but your numbers looked great. If you really want to get a new club despite the great preformance of your current club (I know how it feels, I'm the same way), than drive the extra couple of miles and spend the extra dough to see a professional clubfitter. The ''fittings'' at big box stores are garbage and they just want your money.
  8. I hate mallets. Especially ones with inserts. I had one, and hated it so much, that I snapped it and threw it in a lake. No regrets, in fact, I laughed afterwards. The satisfaction of throwing that piece of garbage in to the hazard was immense. I now use a Ping Zing that is like 20 years old. Putts soooo much better than that new wave insert crap. I'll be getting a Ping Anser sometime before the season starts, something that feels and putts the same but doesn't look so...well...ancient.
  9. Did anyone else notice the little swastika on the wall when hes welding the irons together? Hope that wasn't his garage.
  10. I don't see anything wrong with 14 launch and 2800 spin with your 7.5. Sounds pretty optimal to me. If you want a higher traj. than look into some high launch, low spin shafts such as the Fubuki, which I have in my driver. Delivers high, but flat trajectory with good roll.
  11. Yea, the compton style has to be my favorite. I've acutally come very, very close to doing #1 last year, except my clubs didn't make it all the way to the hazard from the tee box.
  12. I had my best shot of the year so far today, and it's likely to be the best shot of the year for a while. It was the second hole at my home course, I had 138yds to the pin, just nutted a 9-iron that started right and began to draw right towards the flag. I said to my friend "that looks good" and before I could finish "thwack" the ball slams the very bottom of the flagstick, I mean right above the hole, the ball came to rest 3 feet away and I made the birdie. I can't beleive it almost went in! It was a real confidence boost for the next hole (which I decided to use the very same 9-Iron to airmail the green and make a double bogey) but it was an interesting twist to another wise drab, bad round (shot a 43). I think 2 is my new favorite hole. It's been kind to me lately and I think it has to do with me,last week, donating my putter to it's water hazard! (I four putted and decided I didn't like it so much)
  13. Just becuase Rory has a similar build to you means nothing. He is using that shaft because he has a very precise tour level swing in excess of 120mph. He had been custom fitted for his shaft, and it fits his swing profile and launch conditions. As you are a "driving range junky" your launch conditions and swing profile are very different from a top tour pro. To get the most out of a new driver, go to the golf shop and get fitted for a shaft. By the looks of it (at 99mph ss) you would need a stiff flex. That's about all anyone here can tell you, we don't know your launch condtions or anything else about your driver swing. We don't even know your playing ability or if you can even consistently hit a ball with a driver. There are so much more to shafts than just flex, and the wrong shaft can really mess up your tee shots. Go back to the golf store and ask them about shafts. When you buy a new driver, they often fit you for free.
  14. I like TP blacks, and not just because I'm a TM man. I've tried my share of tour balls, I've experimented with pentas, pro v1s, mike tours, bridgestone tours, callaway tours, and I'm finding my self going back to the TP black. It's just a sheer performer. Good, predictable spin around the greens, nice feel off the driver all the way to the putter, and they're long. Not to mention the cut through wind like it's not even blowing. As for the winter, I'm just playing whatever I can find. No point in buying nice balls when all of my winter rounds are pretty much practice preventing game deterioration.
  15. Does anyone have any info on the Fujikura Blur shaft? It comes stock in the R11 TP, and I would like to be able to use a stock shaft for once, and not go through a bunch of custom shaft BS. I mean, Golfsmith.com only let's you order with stock shafts, and my local Golf Galaxy is garbage when it comes to fitting. All they tell you is what loft you need and put you with the stock shaft in regular or stiff. I asked them is they carried the TM custom shafts and they said no. Out of curiosity I asked if they carry any X flex shafts and they even said no! No kind of decent shaft fitting there, I'm not wasting my money getting fitted there, and I'm not driving all over planet earth to find a decent clubfitter! My only option is to keep trying different shafts and figure it out by trial and error, which is very expensive and literally take months to find a proper shaft. Now that that's off my chest, I read that the Blur is mid/high launch and low spin, and tourqe is right around 4, which is twice is high as my fubuki. If that's the case, than it should be similar in launch conditions, but I'm not sure what exactly what tourqe means. I mean, I know what it is but not what it means for me. Will I see greater dispersion?
  16. I played my first full 18 hole round of the year and man, I just put down a monster number. Started off well, until I got to #5, hooked 2 consecutive balls OB, than over corrected and pushed one into a lake, took an 11. Recovered well with four pars, than played bogey golf up until 15 which I tripled, a par on 16 and then doubled 17 and quadded 18 for a total 91! I had fun though, was just laughing at myself the whole time. Like others, I'm just glad to get out there this time of year.
  17. Yea, I don't think a 60 would be the best chioce for a wedge. Alot of people on here recommend one, sure. But, their reasoning behind it is "I hit good with mine". For a wedge go with a 54* or a 56* with about 10-12* bounce and a c-grind sole.
  18. Was this...a joke?
  19. Weakening the lofts is not going to lead to more distance. It will more or less make your 5 iron go just as far and just a high as your 6-iron, not a magically higher and longer 5-iron. Do you hit your 6-iron further or as far as your 5-iron? Very unlikely, yet that is the case needed for this whole "weakening of the lofts" thing to work.
  20. I used to carry, you guessed it, a bag of TM clubs. I had a: -TM R7 quad 10.5* Regular -TM V-steel 3-wood w/ R300 -TM coin forged TP combo Iron set (CB and MB) 3-PW -TM rac black wedge 56* -TM rossa daytona 1 blade putter Was a nice set of clubs. I'd game them today. The Irons were probably too much to handle of me at the time but I think they tought me how to be a better ball striker. They cost me around $1000 all used Before that I had some "Acuity" junior dicks clubs, which all had very whippy graphite shafts (even on the putter, lol.). Cost my grandmother about $200 Before that, I had an even smaller junior set, which I can vaguely remember as I was 5 at the time. Cost my dad probably $50 Before that. I had peanuts plastic clubs Don't remember them (I was 2) but I have seen the pictures. Cost my mom probably $10 at wal-mart. Would I be better if I spent the money on lessons? I don't know. When my dad tought me how to golf he was off of scratch, so I guess his "lessons" were pretty good, good enough.
  21. Hitting in a tight cluster on the heel is indicative of the club being too long. Also, maybe i'd help if you addressed the ball at the toe.
  22. Short game, short game, short game. This winter I'm planning on putting in at least 10 hours a week on the practice greens. Also working on my Accuracy off the tee, so I've committed to hitting at least four buckets a week this winter as well. I'm working hard to get to scratch as soon as possible.
  23. I was practicing today and decided to try to squeeze in 9 holes. The sunset was in 55 minutes and the greens were rock hard frozen (it was 36 degrees) but I decided to anyway. I literally had to run to my ball and take no practice swings, but I broke away with a 38. I still can't beleive I did that. This is going down as one of my greatest accomplishments. Not my lowest round, but the fact that I did it in those conditions in that time was crazy.
  24. I am selling my set of Taylormade RAC TP MB Irons. The clubs are standard loft, lie, and length and come with brand new New Decade Multicompound grips (white) and are equipped with True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 shafts. The clubs have clearly been played, and have chatter marks, and a few dings and scratches here and there, but are still shining and are in good condition. The grooves are still sharp. Not much, if any, wear on the face. These irons are for the better player, a traditional forged blade with a thin top line, minimal offset, a thin sole, and compact head shape. The irons feel very soft and "buttery" when struck correctly and are responsive, but not too painful, when not. Everything a blade should be. The irons will be shipped in the original box, via USPS Priority Mail. I am asking $300 shipped OBO (I prefer money orders). Pics will be up tonight or tommorow.
  25. Driver: -Taylormade -Titleist -Ping Fairway: -Taylormade -Adams -Titleist Irons: -Mizuno+Taylormade (tied) -Titleist -Nike Wedges: -Taylormade Rac+Vokey (tied) -Cleveland -Mizuno I don't beleive there is any "best" putter. It's all about which one works for you and sinks putts.
