I have a pretty high ball flight with my irons, and I like it that way as long as (as others have said) I don't loos distance. I feel it's an advantage to come into the green (let's just assume I could hit one...lol) at a steeper angle to minimize roll. Then again, some better players than myself can do that with more piercing trajectories....so what do I know...lol.

Agree with above two posts. I don't go for par fives in two unless I can hit a 4 hybrid into it, with a smooth controlled swing, not one that requires an "extra umph".

Why not just look on ebay, for a used one, or borrow one for the purpose of finding out if it feels right? [edit]: I bought my wife a RAM full set at academy a couple of years ago. Messing around, I hit a great drive with the driver from that set. Not much different that with my own driver at that time (Launcher 460).

Agree with the above, some holes I think of bogeys as pars. Also happens when I have to pitch out to the fairway from trouble....think of bogey as par. Also, I try (when possible) to not start a shot towards trouble. If I'm mostly drawing the ball one day, and the approach has water on the right with a pin placement towards said water, I just try and land left of that, thus eliminating (lol, well, trying to eliminate) the water.

I have played with low handicappers that I hit the ball further than; however, they hit it straight on a high percentage of their shots. On the other hand, I've played with people who can really generate alot of power, but have high handicaps because they can't control said power; therefore, when all things fall into place, the planets align with the stars, and the gods are pleased....they can crush the ball in play every once in a while. That said, I am impressed with how many people can really hit a long ball.

Have lost some distance, but have become much more consistent on these distances whereas before I would hit an 8 iron at a target 150 and either chunk it, fly it, and every now and again hit it...lol. Also, I used to get into hooking shots more before, and now it seldomly happens. Consistency over power is my latest trend and I have seen my handicap drop 4 strokes thus far.

Mine have all pretty much come with my 4 hybrid. Best has to be this past sunday, 190 yards away with a headwind (that had been forcing me to play to clubs more on most shots) to an island green. I usually hit this club 195-200, but I visualized (important as mentioned above) myself puring the ball with a smooth controlled swing in order to make crisp contact. Funny, I did just that and hit it to about six feet... ....then comes the two putt for par.....lol, oh well, still enjoyed thoroughly that approach! [Edit]: On that same day, on a par 5 from 220 yards away (tailwind) it gave me my second eagle opportunity ever, it was about a 16 foot putt that ended up about half a foot from the hole.....oh well, I enjoyed having an eagle try!
