  2. Golf is the hardest part of golf. Joking aside, what part of the game isn't difficult? The driver is probably the most intimidating and difficult to understand as an beginner and even for the seasoned player it's the hardest club to adapt swing changes.. Just like Brakkus said, you can't hide your misses with the driver (Tiger? ehmmm)
  3. A good channel on youtube to look at is called "Meandmygolf" ... It's these 2 British guys and they do some good instructional videos for both beginners and high handicapers.
  4. Best Shot of my summer! Plus first Eagle of the year . Marysville Golf Club (Ohio), Hole 14: Par 4. Hole plays 390 from the back and is a severe dogleg right. My GPS yardage to the hole showed 330 to center of the green (hole cut back right) taking the dogleg out of play. This means playing over water and tall trees. I hit a over-cooked fade and the ball ended up 5 ft past the hole for a "tap in" eagle 2. Judging from the line and where the ball ended up on the green I was maybe a yard right from a legit double eagle....
  5. I got Rickie Fowler, time to buy a new hat.....
  6. This is hilarious because I remember there was a course here in Columbus called the "airport course" b/c it was literally right at the runway of Port Columbus International Airport. They had such an issue with groundhogs and people witnessed them taking balls that landed near their gigantic burrows. If your from the Columbus area you know the course I'm talking about
  7. A CHEAP but GOOD straight/long ball is the good 'ol Nike Mojo's. I honestly loved these when I just started playing.
  8. Yea Drumlins private course looked nice! Don't knock Syracuse, there are a lot of good courses there. And a quick historical footnote, The first public golf course is Burnett Park Golf Course, opened in 1901... in case you're ever on Jeopardy haha
  9. Not to keep this tread going or anything but I wanted to give a big shout out to Timber Banks. Out of the 3 courses I played (drumlins, green lakes, timber banks) Timber Banks was the best. Great course, very difficult Nicklaus designed course! If you're ever in Cuse this is a must play. (I didn't get to play Turning Stone but I'm sure those are great too)
  10. I will definitely check that out, I forgot Turning Stone was that close. Thanks for the suggestions all
  11. To any members living in or around Syracuse... I'm traveling up with my brother to visit some family and was looking for any suggestions on golf courses to play in the area. GolfNow has a few courses but any local insight would be great, thanks.
  12. My Callaway X-Forged 64* wedge. I've holed out so many chips and < 60 yrd shots with it, not to mention it's excellent out of bunkers. Very close second is my Taylormade Daddy Long Legs putters... dual balance putters are great for taller guys like me.
  13. Nice, That's by far my favorite cigar especially in the torpedo. When golfing I go for a nice Padron 3000 or 6000 relatively cheap stick at 6-7 bucks.
  14. To me this seems ridiculous but then you read articles like this = http://www.cbsnews.com/news/where-have-all-the-golfers-gone/ .... I preferred the whole "tee it forward" concept for amautuers and older players.
  15. Ah okay.. Big payday for Rory's dad .. Winning 350,000 betting on Rory's win, no pressure son.
  16. I just noticed... Is Fowler using graphite shafts on his irons??
  17. My Best shot was on Sunday at Delaware Golf Club here in Columbus. Hole #4, Par 5, playing 505 upwind 10mph... Driver off tee left me with 215 yrds. Went with 4 hybrid to reach in 2 ... Over-cooked my 4H and it was destined for forest OB territory.... Frustrated I dropped my club, said some kind words to the ball...watched as it hit a tree DEAD SQUARE and the ball ricochets off the tree, 2ft from the cup for a tap-in Eagle. Trees are never my friend so I'll take this one for the hundreds of times they've F'ed me over...
  18. thanks for the tips ya it does seems like bungie cords would work at least keep it anchored. I was doing some research and came across this truck bed organizer at cabelas.com = http://www.cabelas.com/product/Auto-ATV/Auto-Exterior/Tool-Boxes-Storage|/pc/104796180/c/104696280/sc/104633280/Cabelas-Weatherproof-TruckCargo-Box/715484.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fauto-atv-auto-exterior-tool-boxes-storage%2F_%2FN-1100781&WTz;_l=SEO%3Bcat104633280 .. this seems like a great way to store clubs in a pickup!
  19. How can I store and transport my clubs in a regular cab pickup truck? Any golf club specific storage options for the truck bed? Just putting the bag in the bed would most likely lead to it moving around and probably cause damage to clubs/truck. Mesh net dividers were an option but it also doesn't provided enough security from moving around. Now the truck I'm looking at buying has a bed cover but how can I like an I've been looking online with no real success, so any feedback from golfers that drive pickups (more specific regular cabs) would be great!
  20. I don't know if anyone remembers or gamed a Tommy Armour Zaap putter but I had a question... Does anyone out there know what the lie angle is on the Zaap Alpha (FLAT) version is? By looking at it I want to say 68-69* degrees but idk... Of course I could probably take to local golf store and have them look at it but by chance I was hoping someone would know... Thanks!
  21. That was the grip that i used before i went underground with my long putter... I feel like the interlocking (much like for my golf swing) creates a more solid connection with my hands to the club and allows me to loosen my grip while still feeling more control .. there is literally no advice someone can give on a putting grip - see v.j. singh
  22. This is what happens when you go from using a real putter to a nike
  23. Just wanted to see any fun stories with animal interaction on the golf course... I live in Ohio and the strangest animal encounter I had was when I walked over a hill to find my ball and instead I found 10 or so deer passing through and suspiciously my well hit ball was missing.. haha I always wonder if one ate it or moved it (I looked around for it for a long freaking time!) what's the relief on that? And any of you Columbus area golfers if you've played the "airport golf course" near Port Columbus, all I have to say is holy groundhogs.. I bring this up because I was just in Orlando and the wildlife on the golf courses was just crazy to see. Gators, lizards, snakes, giant water birds, I rarely see and made me think twice when hitting near dark/water areas.. made me say 'I'll hit another, just in case..." And apparently Florida has these birds that make a distinct and literal HA-HA chirp which only seems fitting on the course.
  24. The last round I played I lost Freaking 7 balls because the ground here in Ohio was so muddy and wet that I swear I found like 10 balls logged into the ground. My thing is I usually lose 3-4 (average) but what pisses me off is when I'm playing and I lose a ball that was hit perfectly. Honestly (other than slow players) that is the most frustrating thing in golf .
  25. Got the chance to go to Bay Hill on Thursday... what a freaking beautiful course, the 18th is a great hole. My prediction is BUBBA will wield the sword. With Levin imploding today and Tiger out of the question with his spotty consistency, I think it clears a path for Bubba to make a strong run. Steve Marino started playing like a champ and I do want to see Ricky win given his strong relationship with Arnie (and to get that first win..) BTW side note.. Gary Woodland could possibly be one of the longest iron players I've ever seen, absolute crazy. Lets hope this prediction is better than my POS bracket.
