I am nervous and exicted at the same time. I have been playing Mizunos for the past few years and looking forward to trying Miura. I will be going with the 202 irons in 3 through 5 iron and the Tournament blade in 6 - PW. These clubs have a chrome satin finish.

I will most likely be going with project x shafts but will let the club fitter do the calcs to see if that is what I need.

I will post later and let you know how the fitting goes.

Mind if I also ask: * What does Miura do for fitting? * How much does it cost? * How much are the clubs? Also, let us know your thoughts on the differences of your Mizunos and Miuras. I may have to consider Miura in a few years when I get my next set.

Great man, I am sure you will become a scratch player with those new clubs. Probably make your cock bigger too!

Nice set of clubs. Congrats. I just picked up a Miura wedge and couldn't be happier. For me its a real toss up between scratch and miura. I'll be interested to hear how they work out for you.

Scratch is a goal of mine. Not sure if new irons will do the trick. I doubt they will, I'll probably have to buy a $2,000 scotty cameron to do that.

Mind if I also ask:

Miura doesnt do anything for fitting. I went to a guy that fits clubs. He basically made up a 6 iron in almost all the shafts offered (DG, Project X, KB) and then changed the lie for each iron/shaft combo for my to test on the launch monitor and with tape on face.

As far as cost. It was around $1250 with DG shafts. With PX shafts (which I went with) and golf pride dual compound it was $1500 out the door. The difference I found on the range was that the Miuras felt softer when hit perfect. I liked the feel. Also the finish is what I wanted. I dont like how the Mizunos have a shiny chrome on the sides on the face. I was going to have my Mizunos refinished but after seeing it was going to cost $500 at the iron factory to have that done, it made more sense to purchase new rather than refurbish 3 year old irons. The price is a little excessive but golf is my only hobby and if these last me 3 years ill pay $500 a year to play the irons. I used to ride motocross and golf is way cheaper!!

^How old are you?

18, college freshman. I usually play Deer Run in Indianola, and in HS we played Rolling Hills in Norwalk every day. This year so far I've been out to Deer Run, Rolling Hills, and Grandview. I'll be hitting Toad Valley a week from today, they're running a promo all day, Free 18 holes if you buy a cart, so I'm able to pay the $2 trail fee on a family friend's cart and play.

I'd like to hit quite a few different places this year. I should hear back from the pro at DMGCC this week on working part time in outside services, which means free golf mondays... I also hope to hit either TCI or Harvester once as well. Where do you usually play?

I played the legacy in norwalk this year the first day they were open, I tried to walk the whole course and it nearly killed me. They should really warn people. I just graduated from I.S.U so I played 90% at veenker while in college. This year I have been playing jester and grandview. I live pretty close to woodland but I haven't got a chance to play it yet. I did play the tournament of Iowa at the end of last year. I felt like I was in a different state because I have never seen a course like that, It's pretty amazing. I have mostly just been hitting jumbo buckets at the des moines driving range to warm up for the upcoming season but I plan on playing this friday. Any suggestions?

Deer Run has a great deal, before 9 AM it's 18 for 18 and a cart per person, so a buddy and I hit that before class once a week. I enjoy the course, its challenging enough for our handicap level, but still very playable. I played GV this past thursday morning, were you there?

Nope, not last thursday. Grandview is deceivingly difficult. It seems like such an easy short course but they make up for it with fast greens and wierd pin placements. Last time I played I came up just a little short on the par 4 dog leg right over the tree, I hit the flag stick with the eagle chip and three putted from four feet

My friend and I couldn't believe how many three putts we had throughout the day. We were calling it a par curse because even though we kept getting gir's we couldn't make any putts.

Ok, there was someone in an ISU windbreaker that looked to be about your age who played through us thursday.

It was a bit of a mess. Greens were in pretty bad shape, one was just plain cut up. I liked the course though. On the par 5 i pushed it over on the other side of that fence to the right of the fairway. That was an adventure. It was also spitting rain/sleet then the sprinklers soaked us the whole back nine. On the first par 3 both me and my buddy pulled one onto the street and bounced it onto somebody's house... I started out 1 over for the first 5 holes and felt great, then kinda fell apart. I'll be back a few times, cant beat the student discount. I'd defiantly say hit up Deer Run, though. If you're interested pm me sometime and we could get together for a round somewhere. I'm actually making my decision right now whether I'm transferring to Iowa or the enemy (isu ) this fall.

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
