Is there a GPS unit available that will track the distance of each shot and the club used so that one can summarize over time the distance for each club? if not, is there software that can be added to existing GPS units?

I have a Golf Logix gps and it has a feature to measure shot distance. A button on the side, you hit the button after you take the shot, go to the ball, and it tells you exact yardage. For example a good drive that I want a measurement on, I hit the button when I put the driver back in the bag (gps is in case clipped to golf bag), drive cart to ball, and it reads 273 yards. I have really enjoyed this feature. Great way to get exact yardage on how far you hit a 7 iron, gap wedge, etc.. For averages, you would just need to write down the yardage and average it of course. But seeing gap wedge measurements of 97, 101, 100, 106, etc.. makes it pretty easy to see that a gap goes just over 100 yards. Seven irons, measure a few over the round, see #'s like 149, 154, 152, etc.. and it is easy to know when to hit this club. Great tool.

Below is a link to info on the unit I have, but if anyone is wanting to buy it, get it from Amazon. Like $240 on Amazon, $299 on the Golf Logix website and other online retailers. Also, like 250 four star reviews on Amazon you can read over if considering a purchase. Awesome unit.

No. It is a "measure shot distance" feature. You hit the button, then go to the ball. It measure the distance of the shot. No info is stored inside the device.

I would think the drive starts at the tee box not the bag location, i mark my shot from the tee box. (I have an Skycaddie)

I was assuming one parks the cart beside the tee box.

Golf guru allows tracking of shots and selecting the club and lie. It currently does allow playback at the end of the round. There are no stats or graphics or average per club information.

I generally only track the distance -- I track club/distance/fairways/etc using my PDA while on the course using Intelligolf. It does all that averaging, etc.

I can't imagine the benefit. There are too many variables. Wind, slope, lie, etc.

    • after some years experimenting around, I've settled on a mixed bag of mostly Pat Simmons vintage Tiger Sharks (the ones with the blue enamal on back of the clubheads): 3 thru 9 iron, + 3 wedges (PW, sand, chipper). Those super heavy clubheads really help me get my swing down and thru the ball. Also I carry an old Taylor 18-degree rescue club, 17-degree and 14 degree ImagineGolf metalwoods, and the famous Pat Simmons "alien" 1-iron. Finally a real brick-on-a-stick, the big-headed Bettinardi Ben Hogan model putter which is excellent for taking the break out of short putts and getting the ball hole high on long ones. Wait....is that 15 clubs? Oh well....
    • this topic brought to mind one my favorite golf-spectator memories. Back when, living in Santa Barbara CA, parked in my yellow cab just behind the 10th tee  (c. 380 yard par 4) at SB Muni golf course while eating lunch. A twosome comes by, and first up is this fat little mexican guy who takes a kinda squirelly practice swing, then addresses the ball and bashes a long, high, perfectly straight drive up to w/in about 5 yards of the green. Other guy is dressed to the 9's, pulls out what looks like a $300 driver....and hits a maybe 150-yard pop fly. Slams clubhead to the ground and yells, "it's fat! It's fat! Everything is fat today!!"  And that's how I learned what a "fat" shot is.
    • day 57. Technique practice in the net. Really trying to slow down.
    • It may not be surprising that in the previous 7,064 posts, this particular point has been discussed. To which I will counter: If we're talking about results, why only the majors? Unless you know something that I don't, neither of us are in any position to judge whether Woods or Nicklaus lived their overall life better, not that such a thing is even objectively measurable, nor is it relevant to the discussion.
    • As we've had to tell other people, the topic is which is the better GOLFER, not human being.
