Club Question

Hi guys.

I have a question on what type of club I need to be using.

I am thinking of exchanging my 5 wood out for a 60º wedge, because i just like to have that extra tool to attack the pin. i would be able to pull off flops, pitchs and others from tighter lies that I cant do with a 52 or a high bounce 56. Does anyone follow this logic? thanks guys and gals

You wouldn't necessarily be hurting yourself taking out a 5W. Probably the best club to take out in favor of a 60.

Yea, i was thinking that the 5w wouldnt be a tremendous burden to me, because I just do so much with my wedges. My 60º is my clutch club, I use it whenever there is trouble ahead, and it always comes through, but i recently cut the club up beyond repair at this new course that decided rocks in the sand traps was a good idea. the cleveland wedges have some soft metal in teh front, thinking of the Taylormade Z TP wedges. dont think that the vokeys have enough options for me, the Spin milled will just eat my balls up for the first 20 rounds, and then turn into regular vokeys, and clevelands have not had good reviews. i have heard many good things about the TM.

What is the next club from your Driver? Do you have a 3w at all? I would suggest taking that out instead. I have a 60* also, a very tricky club sometimes, and sometimes very tough to hit on hard fairways.

Yea i have a 3w, would you really think that taking that out instead? i thought that a 5w would be better to take out. well, im gonna do this. im gonna buy the 52 degree wedge, and the 56 wedge, and see if i can play without a 60. then i will fo on from there.

I love carrying 4 wedges. I carry a 46, 50, 54, and a 58. I'm also looking into possibly getting a low bounce 60*. I would take the Phil Mickelson approach. Take a look at the course you are playing. For me, I tend to draw my woods and fade my irons. So, obviously I would carry a 5w if I will need to hit draws and would carry a 3I if i need to hit fades. Then, at times, I will start hitting either the 5w or 3I badly and will use the other. Its all a matter of preference.

You have to ask yourself, from a given yardage, am I more comfortable hitting a long iron or fairway metal. Then go from there.

It all depends on what course you play on as well. I rarely find my self using my 3 wood. I've used it once this year, Its alot harder to hit and to me, a completely pointless club for the courses I play. If you have long par 5's and love trying to get there in two, or find you really use it alot, keep it in the bag.

      I apologize on behalf of… idiot men. Sorry about that. Next time, tell the guy to shut up. 😛  Day 553, May 8, 2024 18 holes from the whites with @rwolfe. Windy AF today, but hit some good shots. Slid back a little from where I was the previous two days, but… I can get it back. Made a pretty nifty birdie on 12 from some pretty odd places. 😄

      The angles look fine. Get as much light as you can on the area — you want the highest shutter speed you can get. Less blur.

      Snap @ Tour Spoon! Birdied 11 yesterday. Hit a poor iron ,stopped on edge of bunker , pitch with my lob wedge landed about 6’ away and went in. Only 12 & 14 to go, long par5’s into the prevailing wind. Might be waiting a while although I did have about 15’ on 12 after the birdie on 11, didn’t miss by much.

      Tested the Maxfli TourS yesterday. Compared to my former ball, the Titleist AVX, I got an extra 10 yards off the driver and half a club (5-7 yards) off the irons. The combined extra yardage from the driver and fairway wood meant that on par-5s where I usually hit an 8-iron third shot, I hit a PW. It's just a smidgen softer than the AVX and seems to spin well. Some of the reviews indicated a low ball flight, but I did not notice it. I also did not observe any problems with the paint quality, which was an issue with previous Maxfli models up to and including the U series.  My previous round I tested the Bridgestone E6, a two-piece ball with a different cover. It was OK; the same distance and feel as the AVX but with less spin.

      Sad tale.  Both the A's and Raiders.  IMO, cities shouldn't be building stadiums for MLB/NFL teams.  But that's the world we live in.   DAY 3:  30-min range session with irons and wedges.  Working on follow thru -- no hooks! 🙂
