I've been practicing a new swing lately, and by new swing i just mean a correct swing. Anyways I seem to hit too far behind the ball and get alot of dirt on half my shots. On the other half i put a tee 2-3 inches in front of the ball and i connect solidly with the ball and hit it straight. Does anyone have any ideas why a tee in front of the ball automatically corrects my swing? I dont feel like im doing anything different.

I do this same drill but a little different. I actually stay down and through the ball until I hit the tee. Is that what you're doing?

What this does is it causes me to finish my swing higher and extend through the ball. These two factors add distance without the need to create more force, i.e. swing harder.

Lastly, this drill will also get you into the feeling of the swing just begins at impact. You should take a look at your divots. The more they begin in front of the ball, the better off you are. Just another advantage of using this drill.

Its a tip I saw in one of those random magazines...

It really just makes you think more about a full swing, and not just stabbing down onto the ball.

It's because without the tee your swing is focused at the ball rather then through the ball. You should be accelorating through the ball not at it, this should also get you hitting the ball then the ground giving you more solid and realiable contact.

Perfect answer.

Without seeing your swing, you may be doing the same thing that I, and many amatuers/beginners did, which is casting. You subconciously break your wrists early instead of holding off, thus hit an inch or 2 behind your intended target. this causes you to have weak, inaccurate hits and hitting it "fat" Once I realized what I was doing, I moved my aim point to 1 inch in front of the ball and began hitting the ball more consistantly and crisply. Now when I swing, I pick an intermediate target, like a divot etc 1-2 feet in front of my ball as my aim point. Take the club back in line with my aim point for the first foot or so before bringing it up and around, make sure to take a shallow divot 1 inch in front of my ball and "feel" like my club stays online with my intermediate target for a few inchaes past impact. Not sure if that's the right way, but it had increased my accuracy a ton, less shots 10-15yds to the left/right of target.

Later release with the tee in front.

The cause of hitting behind the ball are: 1) Early release 2) No weight shift 3) Spine angle change toward the ball before impact caused by spine angle change on the backswing

    • I get kidney stones. So 100 oz of water every day. Some nights I drink 32oz between midnight and 6 Am. Which means I dont sleep much.
    • 46 (9 over) Short game and putts were awful!
    • 46+40 for an 86. I just need to play 9 holes on the range before each round. 🤣🤣🤣
    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
