Need confirmation that my swing is intact. Swings in order go full, cutoff, 9-3, full.

Overall i'd say the swing is certainly intact. Its good to see your backswing is nice and controlled. You arent trying to turn more than you need too, and therefore your club shaft is parallel to the target line at the top...looks good.

It looks like you may be staying back just a touch in the first full swing video..but without slow motion, its tough to see the angle you are coming at the ball....but nonetheless it looks like you are coming in nicely from the inside and releasing pretty well.

How would you describe your ball flight? Are you satisfied with it? Is there anything that you are looking for? More distance? Are you satisfied with your ballstriking?

My distance is fine at this point. My ball flight isn't too high, but it is a little higher than I'd like it. My only concerns at this point is my flipping habit and my alignment.

Does it look like I'm not in sync at the top?

No your tempo looks ok. Its pretty tough to really say whats going on without slow motion. On your downswing, the club is obviously moving too quickly to see at what angle you are attacking the ball and i'd like to see where you club is at halfway after impact.

Also, work on your 9 to 3 swing..im assuming you are trying to create a hard high spin shot with a low trajectory and less distance...if you pause it at the top of your backswing and at the top of your follow through...check out where your hands are...your backswing looks like almost a full backswing.

Alright, thanks m11. I'll work on the 9 to 3 later today on the range.

My main swing thought coming down from the top is hands inside and club down the line. Any help on how not to flip?

The swing looks good and you definitely have a flipping problem. Then so do I and many other golfers. I paused the video several times and was able to see your flip very well on your second swing. It is caused by your arm swing getting ahead of your lower body movement. Your body deccellerates or doesn't get moving in the right sequence and the arms/wrists have to release early and you flip. Just think if right before impact you could just stop your body turn cold. You have to release your wrist hinge because of the force exerted on them. Your hips were definintely not open to the target enough on that second shot by the time you got to impact. I too have this problem.

Im not having as much success as jambalaya seeing whats really going on in your swing because you cant slow motion youtube videos.

However, what he said is correct. What i would be looking for is where your club shaft is after impact. I can see that you are hanging back a little bit...which would make you flip the club...which like jamabalaya said...basically every golfer has done at some point. Without seeing like a swing academy uploaded video....i'd say think about the concept of "swinging to 1 oclock". When you swing the club, you dont really want to be coming straight through so that you after impact, your shaft is pointing at the target. You actually want to be swinging to just to the right of the target ( or 1 oclock on a clubface). This promotes a true swing from the inside, which takes advantage of how the club is constructed, and allows you to release the club properly.

Quick drill for swinging to 1 oclock:


Place a tee in the ground and stand at address. Take your backswing to the top. Start your downswing but stop it halfway down (when your hands get under your belt). You want the butt of the club to be pointing at 1 oclock. This is sort of an exaggeration of what you'll be doing on an actual swing..but by practicing this move...you'll ingrain the true inside track to the ball. You'll notice that,for now, the butt of the club will probably be pointing at 12.

Then go through impact (clipping the tee) and stop halfway to finish..basically when your hands get just above your belt. (it'll look like you are making one of those photoshoot poses where you are pointing at the camera with your club). Your club needs to be pointing at 1 oclock...again when you start...you'll probably be pointing at 12.

You want to do this drill until you can easily get to those positions. Releasing the club should be a natural motion as well. Removing that flip will be a result of allowing the clubs momentum to cause a proper release. You really cant force the flip to go away. It needs to be worked out by grooving a proper swing path.

m11, I really appreciate that drill. I will work on that tomorrow on the range. Hopefully this will be a quick fix. Does the top of my swing look ok? I know that it's a little upright, but I don't know how much I want to play around with that.

No it looks fine, i wouldnt recommend messing with it.

But try that drill out. I do it before every practice session as part of my warm up. In order to release your club under the most natural conditions, without having to compensate, you need to get your swing to take the correct path..and that drill really helps out.

m11, how much does shoulder alignment play a role in swinging to 1 oclock like you say?

With respect to the driver, my concern is since the ball is playing further up in your stance your right shoulder naturally comes more inward toward the ball causing your upper body to be slightly open, correct? And obviously this is a precursor to a over the top/outside-in swing, or is it not?

What do you think?

So i've been standing with a club in hand for the last 10 minutes trying to come up with an answer. Personally, i'm still pretty square, although i see where you are coming from. I'm to go ahead and say im not positive.

That said, my best answer would be that yea i suppose it sort of does open up your shoulders a bit. If you feel that they are opening too much...either play the ball about a half ball width further back. Leadbetter says the best position is about 1-2in within your left heel. I personally play it basically at my left heel. Or. Keep your left heel planted, but flare out your toe 45*. That'll promote a more inside swing and allow you to clear your hips more. You may lose a touch of power because you wont be able to post up on your left leg well, it may be worth it to develop that inside swing path. Thats my best answer. Although it may not be the best one. Anyone have any other opinions?

    • Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.
    • Yeah, this isn't sandbagging. It's outright cheating. He should be banned.
    • That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.
    • This is the part I don’t get. He’s not even kind of sandbagging, he’s blatantly doing it and submitting scores that are verified to be incorrect. How he’s not banned from competition is beyond me.
    • He's right in what he's saying.I also have done this experiment with a golf shaft swinging with one arm at a time.one arm at a time is for me very fast but both hands together are very slow ..I got my 17 year old son to do this experiment and he swung very fast with either hand and he swung very fast with both hands together..My conclusion up to now is ; I'm not using my wrists properly but I not a 100 percent sure just yet..I will keep trying to fathom this out .I'm a 12 handicap and my son is 3.9 at Westlancs..
