Slowing left hand at impact ( for righties)

Was watching various swings trying to learn whats happening at impact.
It looks like many right handed golfers right at point of releasing, actually slow their left arm as club head approaches impact with ball.



Is this happening or is the pause an optical delusion?

COAM (coefficient of angular momentum) I believe is the right term for what happens here.

It is something to do with centrifical (sp?) force which works it way out to the head of the club during the swing and causes the arms to slow down and the clubhead speed to increase. Same thing occurs when you crack a whip (which causes the tip go faster than the speed of sound.)

I'm sure someone else can explain it better, but the point is the golfer isn't slowing down their arms/hands on purpose. It is physics that is doing it.

DO NOT try and slow down your arms to create this. You'll end up casting.

Thanks for your reply.. I wish I could be in the body of a real golfer and feel what the proper swing feels like.

I think I know whats supposed to happen, just havent figured out yet how it should feel.

It happens naturally. If the golfer continued to move their hands forward at the same speed as before they would have them so far forward by the time they released the lag and squared the clubface that a shot with a 7 iron would have the trajectory of a 2 iron. Not to mention it would be just totally unnatural to have your hands that far forward.

      Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.

      That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.

      This is the part I don’t get. He’s not even kind of sandbagging, he’s blatantly doing it and submitting scores that are verified to be incorrect. How he’s not banned from competition is beyond me.
