I read the thread about the dings and dents on forged irons but I still said I would never use club covers.

I bought brand new AP2 irons and played a few rounds with them. I played on a very windy day last week and my bag kept getting blown over by the wind. My irons took a serious beating and I never would have expected that they would be "this" soft. Even the club faces have dents in them from the other irons falling on them.

Needles to say - I have raised the white flag and got a set of covers. I take them off after each round but the dents bothered me more than I thought they would. Its all I see when I look at the clubs now. Kinda sucks.. they're not even a month old

My AP2's look like they've been thrown into a washing machine filled with rocks...its no problem. As long as none of the groves have gashes in them, youre alright.

I understand your pain. My first set of forged irons were the 775.cb and I had no idea that there was a difference between the durability of a forged vs cast clubs. Needless to say, my clubs took a serious beating and ended up looking like crap. Fortunately, i'm now more careful with my current clubs and they still look very sexy after a year of use :P

Just curious as to which iron covers you got. Looking to pick up some forged irons in the next coupel weeks and didn't know which iron covers would help protect them the most and stil not alow moisture in there?

Check out the Club Glove Neoprene covers, They are soft, go on & off easy, and don't seem to hold moisture.

Those look pretty good. Only turn off is that the club number is on the ugly little tab that sticks up. Looks kind of silly but I could easily live with it.

Your other option is to get a different bag. Check out BagBoy bags that hace the clip-Lok feature. The clubs don't make contact with each other as much so you wouldn't need the iron covers. You could also try threading a towel or two among the oring heads.

In my BagBoy Clip-Lok bag:

I've been able to keep any serious dings off my irons, but the mats at the range scratch the hell out of them. any of you guys ever try to buff scratches out?

My family has had a few refinished by The Iron Factory, in Grand Junction, Colorado.

The owner is a pretty nice guy and they do more work for the OEM community than many people realize. www.theironfactory.com Not a paid endorsement, just a fan. LaMont in AZ

I got Neoprene ones too from Sports Authority. The number is printed on the side of them..no tags. They are also pretty easy on and off. I take them off after each round though so they don't sit in them (its been pretty wet conditions in Jersey).

I'm just upset about the dings on the club faces.. One or two actually cross over a groove or two. I don't think it will impact the performance, but I'm just anal since I've been sweating these clubs for the last few months before pulling the trigger.

Oh well - as long as I'm hitting them straight!

I was just at WalMart and they had some neoprene iron covers there. I plan on picking up either Mizuno mp-52s or Titleist Ap2s in the near future and just wondering how snug of a fit those little covers would be? They appeared to be pretty darn small and just wondered how easy it is to get blades in/out of those puppies?

Stand your bag up either directly into or directly with the wind. Kick the stand legs out a little farther.

My bag's never blown over. I live in Kansas, we get REAL wind.

huh? you got dents on the face of your irons from the simple fact that they were banging into each other? I can say i don't have a single scratch on my forged irons from bag chatter..

but wait... oops.. i have mizunos

I have these also. The tabs are not bad, and actually make club selection pretty quick. Most of the time the tab just lays flat.

Come on ladies! They are GOLF CLUBS not museum pieces. A few dings are not going to hurt your clubs. Those are battle scars! It is INEVITABLE. Get over it. Play golf. Enjoy your GOLF CLUBS.

Please don't use iron head covers... most ridiculous thing EVER

it's not like these things cost thousands of dollars (unless you're playing those crazy japanese forged companies made out of gold, then maybe iron covers would be justified)

    • Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.
    • Yeah, this isn't sandbagging. It's outright cheating. He should be banned.
    • That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.
    • This is the part I don’t get. He’s not even kind of sandbagging, he’s blatantly doing it and submitting scores that are verified to be incorrect. How he’s not banned from competition is beyond me.
    • He's right in what he's saying.I also have done this experiment with a golf shaft swinging with one arm at a time.one arm at a time is for me very fast but both hands together are very slow ..I got my 17 year old son to do this experiment and he swung very fast with either hand and he swung very fast with both hands together..My conclusion up to now is ; I'm not using my wrists properly but I not a 100 percent sure just yet..I will keep trying to fathom this out .I'm a 12 handicap and my son is 3.9 at Westlancs..
