I'm a 15 handicap and I've caught a nasty case of the shanks. I shank my irons and I've been hitting badly off the hosel with my driver and other woods.

I just started lessons and the instructor has me closer to the ball. That wasn't a problem at first, but I think that I've crept further away from the ball and now I'm lunging and casting the hosel at it.

Please tell me what you see. Thanks.

Well im no pro or anything but there is no question your too far on your irons, your practically sitting on the ground lol. You have like a foot gap between your shaft and your waist.

You need to stand up completly straight , hold the club out at your waist and then bend at the hips till it touches the ground, this is proper distance for the club your using.
There is noway you would get into that position your in if you followed that simple setup method.

For your driver, I dont know where your drives are going, maybe they are straight, but if not I would say you have a very short back swing, if your slicing the ball I would say 2 things, one you look like your holding the club extremely firm, loosen up and let those wrists roll out properly. And take the club back further so its parallel with your shoulders then bring it down, this will help you get behind the ball more square.

To me, it looks like you're just using your arms to hit the ball as hard as possible when using the driver...

The first thing I would do is work on "setting" the club. David Leadbeter and Bobby Clampet (impact zone) have both written good stuff about this aspect of the swing.
Secondly, the whole thing looks ridged to me (as opposed to fluid). Perhaps your wrists and hands could be a little more relaxed but you can't see that from any video.
Finally, the back swing seems very flat. If you pause the video at about 3/4 of the way back and draw a line down along the length of the shaft to the ground, you'll see that it points way outside the ball/target-line. I'm not a pro but if you read some of the well-know teachers and check out this same line on most of the pros' swings, you'll notice the line intersecting the ground at a point much closer to the ball.
Again. I'm no expert but just thought I'd share my observations...

If you draw a line over your head at address, and then play the video, you will notice that your head drops significantly from address to impact. This move brings your upper body closer to the ball, and consequently, the hosel too. (clank!) It's OK to move your head a bit from side to side, but never up and down. (See Charles Barkley...)

The easiest way to do this is to have someone hold a small bit of your hair while standing in front of you while you swing. If you dip your head, you'll have a bit less hair to shampoo in the morning...

It is obvious from the video that you stay way short of parallel on your backswing. This is not always a bad thing to have a short compact swing but you are way short of parallel. It looks like you stop short and then compensate by getting extremely quick with your tempo. Your transition is so fast its hard to see. Try taking some some swing with a full takeaway where your clubs get all the way back parallel to the ground. Then focus on a transition that is fluid. You can even count 1,2,3 in your headto get yourself on tempo better. This should help some.

Sorry for my previous post I looked closer and slowed it down some....you really arent getting that fast at transitions but it seems to me that the short backswings is making you become all arms. You body has alot of movement as well. Try to focus staying still over the ball.

I'm the last person on earth you should be taking advice from, but on the driver video your elbows are bent and your back is very arched at impact.
