I was wondering if anybody here used this to trade in some older clubs. I was just wondering if all of the courses/retailers that show up on the search will allow me to bring the clubs in for a trade. I have $144 worth of clubs that are just sitting around collecting dust.

Play It Again Sports pulls up the site when you bring in clubs. Dicks/Golf Galaxy and other big stores have a big book that is updated monthly. Some small shops go directly off of site as well. Just don't expect anything above the listed minimum from most places.

I have found they are pretty much on-the-money. They are the "Kelly's Big Book" of golf.

The place I usually trade goes straight to the site. I've gotten about the mid-range most of the time on my trades. As long as the clubs are in good condition it hasn't been a big deal.

Occasionally you'll see places that have trade-in sales where they'll give you an extra 20% above the PGA value guide. If you're not in a hurry to sell, you might want to keep an eye out.

Yeah they do this as long as you buy another club from them.

Don't wait too long or the price of your clubs may drop.

When I went to trade in my old set of irons to get a new one, the guy at Golfsmith looked something up on one of the registers and gave me a price quote for the trade-in. I then went to Golf Galaxy and they looked in the book and the price they gave me was about $20-$25 higher than the quote from Golfsmith.

In my X-Series Bag:

Woods V-Steel 3W, 5W
Hybrids Pinemeadow ZR1 19* 3HIrons MX-19 4-GWWedge MP-R Black Nickel 54/10Putter Rossa Sebring AGSI+

I believe Golfsmith determines its own values. For the last couple of years, Golfsmith's values were much higher than the PGA value guide, now they seem to be much less.

All my clubs values went up from what they were in the Spring. Must be the prime club shopping season. The PGA trade value site basically gives an ebay value.

It's a good time to trade. Trade values are up and new equipment are getting lower and lower. Just saw Ping G10 fairway woods for $99 at the local shop.

So if I take the clubs I want to trade in to Golf Galaxy they'll take them and give me cash for them? And what about Dick's?

Yes but they are only going to give you the trade-in value for them. Your best bet is to sell them yourself.

Actually, Golf Galaxy won't give you cash. They'll give you a gift card with the amount on it. It's good in-store or online.

for some reason i looked up the value of my Burner 2.0's on the PGA Value Guide. it spit out a price range of $154.19-$188.64, and purportedly this number is based off of 550 eBay transactions, which makes absolutely no sense to me. i looked through 98 completed listings for these clubs on eBay, and only 5 sold for less than $300, while most sell between $300-$400 and some sell for over $400. one of the sets selling below $300 only included 6 irons, a few of the others were 7/10 ratings at best, and the other was the anomaly - a almost new set that sold for $250 with only 2 bids.

i understand that a few listings probably include a bag or something, but the vast majority are just the clubs. and no, i'm not using new clubs as a basis for these prices, either. they were excluded in the search process.

That's the trade in value (wholesale).  Click on the resale link just to the right of the value and you will see that the price is much higher and what you would expect to pay for them from a reputable dealer.
